I have a remote headless server (MacOS BigSur 11.3.1). When I log in via ssh (with either the root user or regular user), I am unable to save to the crontab.
When I use the following command:
% crontab -e
I can see a cronjob that I saved when I was logged in locally (not via ssh). After editing and exiting the crontab, I get the following error:
crontab: installing new crontab
crontab: tmp/tmp.1028: Operation not permitted
crontab: edits left in /tmp/crontab.kKYx3tt4c1
While logged into ssh, I have instead tried to edit the crontab with this command:
% sudo crontab -e
To my surprise, the cronjob that I saved when logged in locally is not listed. It is as if it is a different crontab for a different user. In any case, I can't save to the crontab when using sudo either. It gives the exact same error as above.
I have followed the advice of a few internet posts suggesting allowing the cron and sshd executables "Full Disk Access" through the Mac System Preferences. However, the same error persists.
I'm not sure what to try next.
So the issue was solved by giving sshd-keygen-wrapper full disk access. Don't ask me why that needs it, but it is working now. I hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
I'm trying to use rabbitmq for a django tutorial but when I want to start the server I get this error:

I've searched for port to see that if it's in use or not and I used lsof -i :25672 and I get nothing.
I don't know too much about these things so if you need anything please tell me.
Try:
sudo lsof -i :25672
sudo kill <PID>
sudo rabbitmq-server
Where <PID> is the process ID that is occupying port 25672
I have encountered this issue. I figured out that this issue is coming because the rabbitmq-server is already running on the machine.
I have used the following command
rabbitmqctl.bat status to know the status of the rabbitmq-server. This helped me to know if the server is up or down.
If it is up, this could the reason you are getting the error that you have specified in your post.
You can issue the following command to make the server down
rabbitmqctl.bat stop
Now you can try starting the rabbitmq-server by issuing the following command
rabbitmq-server start
Note that I am using Windows. And I have executed these commands by pointing the command prompt to C:\Program Files\RabbitMQ\rabbitmq_server-3.8.14\sbin as my rabbitmq installation directory is C:\Program Files\RabbitMQ\rabbitmq_server-3.8.14.
I have encountered this before. Here is what caused it and how I fixed it:
This is one of those commands which requires the magic word sudo (i.e it needs a superuser privilege).
If you forget to add sudo to the command, it begins the process but later fails when it hits a superuser-only roadblock. This leaves you with an incomplete process. Now when you decide to add sudo, it attempts the same process again but finds out that someone without the right privilege has made a mess or is still messing around.
Then the solution will be to cancel out whatever the first command has started and try again.
sudo lsof -i :25672
This list out details about the port 25672
You will see the PID (process ID) e.g 1301
Then stop the process on that port with:
sudo kill <PID>
for example, sudo kill 1301
And make sure you are killing the right process if not you may get into trouble.
Now, retry the command with sudo:
sudo rabbitmq-server
ALSO,
In most cases, this error occurs because without deliberately stopping the rabbitmq-server, it always keeps running even after you restart you system.
another way to stop rabitmq server windows+R then type "services.msc" and then find for RabitMq.slelect and stop from left top corner.
Then re run your rabitmq server.
-Hi guys, I am putting up an answer that can help Googlers to run multiple rabbitmq-server on the same machine. Trying to achieve the latter, I ran into a similar error reported in the first place and solved that by defining:
export RABBITMQ_DIST_PORT=anything_other_than_25672
as stated in the documentation:
https://www.rabbitmq.com/networking.html#epmd-inet-dist-port-range
if you are using windows go to task manager and stop rabbitmq from running...
then reload the rabbitmq-server
For Linux others answered but in Windows you should press Ctrl+Alt+delete and select task management and in that end proccess that depends on erlang.
Note that it requires Administrator previlage.
Now enter this command to start rabbitmq-server:
rabbitmq-server start
Every time you restart your computer you should do these steps. For prevent do them again you should stop rabbitmq service from startup services.
went through same problem in windows, it is already running after installation as a service
so just enable the plugins from the rabbitmq commandline by entering the code as
rabbitmq-plugins enable management_plugin
than go to the localhost:15672 and good to go.
This means that your port 25672 is already in use
try: -
sudo lsof -i :25672
sudo kill <PID>
and now start your rabbitmq server using
sudo rabbitmq-server
I was installing phpmyadmin following this tutorial.
I missed the warning in step 1 and I did not select Apache2. I exited the command line and when I try to start from the beginning I get this error:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), is another process using it?
I've been searching for answers, but couldn't find one that helps.
What should I do here?
Thanks
Some of the running processes is still using the apt package manager. You can find the apt process using the following command:
ps aux | grep apt
and kill it:
sudo kill -9 PID
Don't forget to replace PID with the actual process ID.
Probably a background process is using/locked on the administrator directory. You could
ps
or
ps | e
to view the running processes and stop/kill the one using the dpkg.
I ran into this error once after updating my Linux Mint Tara, and couldn't use dpkg. I had to restart the whole system which worked fine.
You could try it too, restarting.
It mean something(Process) else is installing or removing software and has locked the apt database while it performs the action.(Probably The Software Center or The update Manager). The safest way is(without crashing your system) Reboot Ubuntu the Try to install phpmyadmin again.
Killing the process might not work always, because there could be no process involved at all!
So, the best solution would be:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock*
I had your same error messages [both of them] and I solved the issue running:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
as said in this post which explains that "the root cause is the lock file. Lock files are used to prevent two or more processes from using the same data. When apt or apt-commands are run, it creates lock files in a few places. When the previous apt command was not terminated properly, the lock files were not deleted and hence they prevent any new instances of apt/apt-get commands"
I am pretty new at php and ubuntu. I have 2 servers set up, one for development and one for staging. On the dev machine I can use the at command without a problem, but on staging I get a permissions error. The at.deny (and at.allow) files are identical, so it must be another permissions issue.
Any clues?
I see that on the staging server I can only use at command as root. How can I fix this to be able to use the at command as www-data? Again... I checked the at.allow and at.deny files ... they are not the problem here.
1) Check if you have file /etc/at.allow.
If it exists - just add your user in new line.
If not exists - try to find your user in /etc/at.deny and remove/comment it.
2) Restart "at" daemon:
sudo atd restart
3) Check:
at -l
or
sudo -u myuser at -l
The error should not be output.
I have a chef recipe that runs a chocolatey install for Microsoft SQL server. From my workbench when I run
knife winrm [IP] 'chef-client -o "recipe[NetDevMachine::default]"' -m -x 'domain\myuser'
over a node it fails with the error:
532459699 or sometimes 2022834173 or 2057043966
However if I log onto the VM as the same user and locally run
chef-client -o "recipe[NetDevMachine::default]"
It works. Does anyone know what the difference is between running chef-client locally and running it remotely from the workbench? What does chef-client do differently here? Both are pulling the recipe from the same chef-server repo.
Additional Details
I am using the same user for both
I have successfully run other recipes from the workstation, it's just this MicrosoftSQLServer install that's not working
running "knife winrm [IP] 'choco install MicrosoftSQLServer' -m -x 'domain\myuser' also does not work
Recipe contents:
powershell_script "choco install MicrosoftSQLServer2014" do
code <<-EOH
choco install MicrosoftSQLServer2014
EOH
end
Error:

Exit code was '-532459699'.
Edit - the only difference I can see is that one runs in the foreground and the other doesn't. So the location of the compile chef-script is /temp/2 for the failing run. I don't know if there is a way to force chef to run in the foreground or if that will even help.
Thanks
I never got to the bottom of this and still don't understand how running the chef client remotely using knife was different from running chef client directly on the VM. Perhaps it was something to do with the handling of credentials or permissions when remotely sending commands.
But I did find that removing chocolatey and replacing it a command line silent install inside a chef powershell resource allowed me to install MSSQL.
