I created a folder called Uploads in my public folder.
I'd like to have people be able to click a link and download a file in that Uploads folder.
Here's my code:

It's missing the /uploads/ bit in the URL path.
If I add that string manually, I get a borked URL:

Try this...

I am trying generate a code that tracks for documents that revolve within the organisation. I have done other codes for adding employees, adding document types and logging in now I am struggling on creating a document form and search from the document that I have created. Even Iam new to rails, but i can help you with basics that you need to pass the parameters from the view to the controller, therefore you can use:
:url => {:controller => "name_of_your_controller", :action => "action_to_be_perforemed", :id => "whatever id you want"}
or else you can also pass the object within the url like we do while edit request
<%= link_to "Edit", edit_post_path(#edit)%>
which will give the :id of the particular post.

I have a link in regular HTML with Twitter Bootstrap icons in it:
<li class="sidebar"><i class="icon-user"></i> Home</li>
(The i tag is for twitter's image icons)
If I were writing that same HTML in embedded Ruby, how could I still get the icon in there?
Right now I have:
<%= link_to content_tag(:li, "Home"), root_path %>
Is it possible to specify Twitter's tag in embedded ruby?
Also, should I specify the sidebar class in regular html or with :class => "sidebar"

The shorter alternative I use is
link_to " ".html_safe, '#'
It's 'dirtier' but somewhat easier to understand.
I am taking a rails class at my University and I am trying to create a search form which will show the results on the same page rather than show a different page of results. Is this something simple to do? I am creating a museum app with artifacts for each museum but I want the user to search artifacts from either page.
On my routes.rb I have

On my museum index I have the code below that he gave us but not sure how to tweak the get routes for the same page.

Yes, this is easy. Just have the index page return the search results if params[:search_text] is present - this way you don't need a new route or a different page.

So what you really want to do is any page you want to search, include a form which makes a request to that same page.
Then in each of those controller methods just put this line of code:
#artifacts = Artifact.search(params[:search_text])
and that will populate the #artifcats array with only artifacts that match the search query.
Try using "Ransack" gem. It can also perform some more powerful searches.
This is my first time developing a rails app from scratch. The goal of my code is to use a title and link (both stored in a database table) to redirect users to the link. (Problem) When I click the link title, I'm redirected to localhost:3000/google.com instead of google.com. (Assuming google.com was the value in link.link)

Are your links prefixed with "http://"? If not, try adding that in programmatically with something like:

I have an RoR script that when given the file path for an XML file, will parse it. I want to be able to find the file with the GUI, and then allow for my script to run. Here's what I have in the view:

Basically from here, how do you snag the file path out? I know that once the correct file path can be placed to $XML_FILE that the rest of the code works
After you've submited a form you can find upploaded file this way:
path = params[:setup][:my_file][:tempfile].path
where params[:setup][:my_file] is your file_filed name in the form
