PDF Box file not compatible with Fax machine - pdfbox

I am using apache pdf box api (java)for generating pdf's from pre-defined template(Created from Open office). Now when i try sending that pdf to fax machine(Rightfax server), its printing with Dots in it. Also if I change fonts nothing is printed except some dots in it.
Kindly advice whether there is any settings to be done in template creation to be compatible with fax format.
Regards,
Niteesh

My guess is that the PDF document was produced in color or greyscale. Fax is strictly black & white. The dots that you're seeing are a result of the dithering process, when the color or greyscale document is converted to black & white.

Problem showing a font with license restriction to pdf

I'm programming to convert a file to pdf on mac, file contains a Chinese text
using a font STFangsong which has license restriction and is not embeddable, I
tried many CMaps to encode it, but it seems the root cause is because pdf viewer(both
mac previewer and acrobat reader) does not recognize the font, as shown in the pdf
file properties, Actual Font Unknown and there is a pop message says can't find or
create the font.
The PDF 32000-1:2008 9.6.6.4 tells a guideline that when encoding truetype font,
the font program should be embedded, though no specific explanation, from my
understanding, embedding can guarantee the pdf is readable everywhere, but I do not
need this since the font is licensed, I just want it can be shown on my computer.
So my question here is does those pdf viewer has limitation on those CJK characters
when embedding is forbidden?
By the way, I used Microsoft word to write a text with the font and save word to
pdf, and it shows the font is embedded subset, does it mean Microsoft have bought the
license?

Text changed to graphics, still selectable in PDF?

I have this PDF ebook with selectable text - the handwriting - but there is no such font embedded and the letters are all different, so it's not actually a font. How is this possible?
I've worked with CorelDraw and Adobe Acrobat, but I can't understand how this works.
The left side of the picture shows the document properties, the right side shows a page of the PDF file and I selected the last 3 rows. I can copy and paste that to a text file, no problem. How was this achieved?
There are a few possibilities but the most likely is the text is being converted to outlines/paths or vectors. Some software such as Adobe InDesign and other print design apps allow you to 'flatten' a font based text into vector or paths, meaning the original font isn't required to be embedded or installed on the system. The original text data is however still present and able to be copied into a text field or word processor.

PDF cannot display Chinese fonts in table of contents

I made a PDF file from Latex (using TexMaker).
Acrobat Reader is able to display BOTH the text and the table of contents in Linux.
But Acrobat Reader is unable to display the table of contents in Windows XP (the Chinese characters came out as boxes). However, the text is displayed correctly.
I tried to embed the fonts into the PDF but the various methods are not 100% successful, so I'm not sure if the fonts are embedded correctly or not. Anyway, the table of contents remain unreadable in Windows.
I wonder if it is really an font embedding problem? Or do I need to install these "Adobe Reader X Font Packs":
https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4883
My concern is that I'd like my PDF to be readable in Windows, including the table of contents (and preferably without further installations). If this is possible...
I suspect you are talking about "bookmarks" and not saying part of the text in the document is ok and part is not. PDF Bookmarks are part of the UI of the application and are not selected from embedded fonts. Therefore, the system you are running on needs to know how to handle fonts in the language(s) of choice.
See https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1144972?start=0&tstart=0
Embedding the fonts will have no effect on the bookmarks.

Font missing with Crystal Reports generated PDF

I have a Crystal Report 8.5 file, that I need to export to PDF.
That report contains a field that I need to represent as Bar Code. To achieve that I use a TrueType font.
If I open the generated PDF file on that machine I see the bar code.
But if I open it from another machine that doesn't have the font installed, I see only numbers.
How can I assure that the codebar is visible on the PDF even if the computer doesn't have the font installed?
If you do not want to include a font, you can generate an image and call it via HTTP.
The barcode below is generated using an online barcode generator courtesy of WASP:
http://www.waspbarcode.com/services/waspbarcode/barcodegen.ashx?symbology=Code128&code=font_missing_31301980
Steps for Report:
Create blank JPG using MS Paint. Resize without aspect ratio checked on.
Insert image placer holder such as 50x323 PNG into Crystal Report
Right-click on graphic and select Format Graphic...
Click on Picture tab, click on Formula, Enter Formula
Create a formula where like the URL above. You want to retrieve the barcode data from the database and concatenate the prefix and barcode field together:
"http://www.waspbarcode.com/services/waspbarcode/barcodegen.ashx?symbology=Code128&code=" + {table.barcode_field}
Take care to use your own online barcode generator. WASP service may not work if people starting abusing the service and generate too many barcodes for reports.
You can also generate Code 3 of 9 barcodes using HTML only, but I haven't tried in Crystal Report formula yet.
You have to embed the barcode font into the PDF!
Very likely the following has happened:
The PDF is generated on a machine that (obviously) has the mentioned TrueType barcode font installed locally, but the barcode font isn't embedded into the PDF.
Hence the same machine can still display that barcode correctly (because the font is available from the machine's local installation).
The same barcode font is NOT installed on your $other machine.
Hence $other machine cannot display that barcode correctly because it has to use a substitute font.
To rectify that situation, you have two options:
Install that barcode font onto every single machine which will ever have to process, display or print that PDF. This is the worse alternative.
Make your PDF generating software embed the barcode font into the PDF. Then you do not need to care about any machine that ever opens, displays, processes or prints the PDF. This is the better alternative!
If you use a barcode image library, such as this barcode 3 of 9 image creating library for Crystal Reports, you will need not install font to each computers.
You must have the Bar Code font installed on the machine that is rendering the report if you are exporting to PDF because Crystal Reports does not embed fonts due to licensing issues.
However, you can print to a PDF printer, and select the option to embed the fonts into the file.
There are issues embedding fonts with 8.5 and SAP is not going to be very helpful as it is such an old version.
I had done this, so whenever you want the custom font style in crystal report, you have to install that font in server machine where your application host.
So if font is available, then report will map the font style and display as normal font.
There is one rule when you want other than standard font : as you installed font in your local machine to check pdf, the same process you will done on to the application server where your application are host or simply say the location (means server) / computer of your crystal report's physical files.
To show bar-code value in your crystal report, you just need to choose font in the format text of controls. Reports automatically display that, if it find the font, other wise gives error of font missing or not show properly bar-code section.

Need help/answers on PDF color seperation

Using the following process:
A PDF is been created by PDFCreator, when a user prints something to the virtual printer
The PDF gets further processed with integrated VBScript handler and passed over to JAVA which does some processing with the PDF content
In the middle of the process an external application is called with the PDF that adds black text and graphics to the PDF
The PDFs are collected and once a week handed over to a print shop that uses a plate for each CMYK
The problem is: the print shop needs a color seperated CMYK PDF, but the added black text & graphics from the external app should be the only content on the K plane (because we want to make a special print effect). All other content which has been printed via PDFCreator should be on CMY plates only, so black must be emulated with those colors.
At the moment we are manually braking the process before calling the external application and seperate the colors via Adobe Creator Pro, but that is no future option because the whole process should work automated.
So basicly I need a way to convert the CMYK PDFCreator PDF to a CMY version only so the external app can throw in as many black K content as needed.
Is the PDF conversion the right direction I'm heading to? Is there any way w/ ghostscript how this can be done? I read the gs documentation but got nowhere as I only saw RGB to CMYK conversion but no CMYK to CMY with empty B...
I believe that PDFCreator is simply a wrapper around ghostscript, so you may have some joy on the ghostscript mailing lists. It seems that gs does support some printers that just ouput CMY so this functionality is likely to be available in there.
Wouldn't you be better off using a new separation called Black? Can't the print shop handle that?
