I have developed an application, which has one tableview and 4 textfields.
When I run the app, the control is not going orderwise by giving TAB. For that I set initialResponder as tableView, then connected tableview's nextKeyView to textfield, correspondingly I had given connection for rest of the fields. But still the control is not going orderwise.
What is the problem? Did I missed something? Or is there is other way to do it?
Do you have System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Full Keyboard Access set to "All controls"? If it is set to "Text boxes and lists only" then tabbing may not move focus between your controls.
Make sure the window's Auto Recalculates View Loop is unchecked in the inspector.
Then play with ctrl+F7, which toggles how the tab key works system wide. One mode tabs from text field to text field, the other tabs to all controls.

This is my first UWP app
I have a SplitView. On the right side I want a menu. On the left side I want to be able to load different pages into it(frame)
The only menu I can find have that hamburger in it(AppBarButton).
This app will only run on windows desktop machines so I do not have need of the hamburger and it will be rather useless.
I have spent the last two nights looking for options but all I get are hamburgers.
Can someone please point me to an example of a no hamburger menu or a tutorial of some kind?
I am sure I can figure it out once I know what elements to use, I just need a push in the correct direction.
What you need is a base page (let's call it "HostView") this will simply have a SplitView control with the DisplayMode set to Inline and the IsPaneOpen set to true. You can also set the side panel width by using the OpenPaneLength property.
Your menu buttons go into the SplitView.Pane and you place a Frame control in the SplitView.Content. This frame will navigate to the correct page when a menu item is selected.
If you set the properties as I said above then you will not need a Hamburger menu to open the side panel at all. However, please consider the fact that users will want to resize your app, and they might resize to a very narrow size which means it might not have enough space to display all the content. IN which case you will need to collapse the side panel and show a hamburger menu to open it when needed. You don't have to do this, but it is something to consider.
I am trying to toggle between textfields and buttons on my view using keyboard's tab button. The switching between textfields work but it does not switch between buttons. The view is shown as below.I did not find enough resources online to proceed further. Does anyone know how to resolve this?
There is nothing you can do with that issue.
It turns out that in the System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts there is a checkbox, where you can change behaviour of the whole system:
To move keyboard focus only between text boxes and lists
To move keyboard between any of controls
And by default first checkbox is pressed.
As an addition. By default, NSWindow assigns an initial first responder and constructs a key view loop with the objects it finds. You can also change key view loop by calling this method: setNextKeyView.
For example,
[firstTextBox setNextKeyView:secondTextBox];
[secondTextBox setNextKeyView:secondButton];
[secondButton setNextKeyView:firstButton];
[firstButton setNextKeyView:firstTextBox];
This means that for users who expect moving control focus through all controls, this will work. And for those who have disabled this feature in settings, this won't work.
You can right-click on text field, drag "nextKeyView" and drop on another text field that you want to focus next when user press tab. Look like my picture below:
To add to #mjonka's answer, To move focus between controls is dependent on user's keyboard-shortcuts settings. What could be alternate solution is to just selecting your desired action button in your xib file and setting "Key Equivalent" value field to "enter" key in Attributes inspector as shown below. Same thing can be done for cancel button by setting "Key Equivalent" value to "Esc" key.
I created an interface it has several forms you can switch between using a panel as the parent form. My problem is that when i switch between my forms on the second time i open a form if that form has autoscroll on a panel it will not allow you to scroll and the window is stuck on the view you previously had.
In this image i open the form internet. after doing so i will click on instruction( any form switch triggers this)
now i open the same form again and the scroll bar is gone and it locks in on the last position the form was in.
the very curious thing in this is that this only happens on the internet form word also has a scroll bar however even though the properties and settings for both are identical only one does not work.
What could be causing this and how do i go about troubleshooting errors like this.
The forms are removed from the panel and re-added, they are not closed.
Assumption 0:
The forms are removed from the panel and re-added, they are not
closed.
Store the state of panel autoscroll and set it after you have re-added it. Note that if you add controls to the panel first and panel is not docked, then scroll will not appear because panel dimensions can be huge. You should set following property as well:
vScrollBar1.Vericalscroll.Value = 0
Assumption 1:
I assume what is actually going on is that you do not add controls to that panel, but to the form behind it or something similar. In that case - program is correct, you just asked it to do a wrong thing.
Assumption 2:
Assuming is panel is anchored top, left, bottom, right. There is currently a limitation in Windows Forms that prevents all classes derived from ScrollableControl from acting properly when both RightToLeft is enabled and AutoScroll is set to True.
Manual : link
Assumption 3:
You add the controls back, by recreating them, but forget to add handlers or create them in order where scrollbar is out of view. Instead of absolute positions you could use dockstyle:
Dim vScrollBar1 As VScrollBar = New VScrollBar
vScrollBar1.Dock = DockStyle.Right
Controls.Add(vScrollBar1)
I want to have an icon in the menubar in my Mac app - and the icon should spawn a menu upon clicking. While having more entries in the menu, I would like to have a top row as a universal text entry field - like it is in Spotlight:

Is it possible to add such a field to NSMenu? Or should I do it as a panel-type window?
If you're using xcode 4 , make a custom view in interface builder and add a textfield or anything you want to it. In IB also drag and drop a "Menu" from the objects library with as many items as you want in it. Then simply ctrl+click the menu item you want to make into the text field (In your case it would be the top one) and drag to the custom view and select "view". Now when you open the menu, instead of showing a menu item in that space, it shows whatever was in your custom view.
EDIT: As for your comment here's what you should do. Make your menu an outlet by opening the assistant editor view and ctrl+click from your menu to the header file that you want to use. now, simply make a method that will run whenever the menu will open, conveniently apple already made this, it's called menuWillOpen.
- (void)menuWillOpen: nameOfYourMenu{
[self performSelector:#selector(methodExecutedWhenMenuIsClicked) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.0 inModes:[NSArray arrayWithObject:NSRunLoopCommonModes]];
the delay at 0 will make it happen immediately, it must be done in the common modes run loop so that the menu will be updated even while it's open. Now just make the methodExecutedWhenMenuIsClicked and set it so the text field responds.
- (void)methodExecutedWhenMenuIsClicked{
[[yourTextfiled window] makeFirstResponder:yourTextField];
You can put any view in a menu using -[NSMenuItem setView:]. See the long comment in NSMenuItem.h and the section Views in Menus in Application Menu and Pop-up List Programming Topics.
You're probably going to struggle quite a bit. I just tried doing the same thing, and reading the Views in Menus in Application Menu and Pop-up List Programming Topics document referenced by Ahruman, I found this:
A view in a menu item can receive all mouse events as normal, but keyboard events are not supported. During “non-sticky” menu tracking (that is, manipulating menus with the mouse button held down), a view in a menu item receives mouseDragged: events.
I think we're SOL. Apparently Spotlight pops up a borderless window instead.
I'm working with Xcode doing a Ipad app.
i simply want user to click anywhere on screen (not counting text fields) to perform some IBAction.I'm using an invisible button that covers my whole view.
Since I have some text fields in my view,i need to add this invisible button to the background of my user interface. I cant seem to find this option in the button attributes? any help?
Just set the button's type to custom.
Did you try setting the opacity of the button to zero?
I guess i got your point. You just want to put the UIButton(invisible) on the back of all the UITextField. The simple solution to this is open the Document Window in the IB. Now expand the view tree in the list view. Just drag your UIButton above the UITextFields and set the alpha value for the button in the property to be zero.
Hope this helps!!
iPad users don't "click". They "tap" or "touch".
In Interface Builder, I believe views are constructed with a z-index from top to bottom as they appear in the document window, so dragging your button so that it appears as the first subview of your main view should be a quick fix for this.
Have you considered other approaches? This doesn't sound like standard behaviour for an app and will probably cause havoc with anybody using Voice Over. What are you trying to accomplish?
