Is there a way to use phantomjs to drive my firefox/chrome browser?
We have a bunch of casperjs tests, that I would like to run directly in the browser for debugging ( or just pure interrest ).
I seem to recall that a long time ago, before phantomjs became pure headless, I could do this by making it run on X instead of xvfb and removing/uncommenting the phantom.exit() line.
PhantomJs IS a browser, so the answer is no. You may want to look into Karma however.
You just use a config file which allows you to provide a browser to run your tests in:
Chrome
ChromeCanary
Firefox
Opera
Safari (only Mac)
PhantomJS
IE & Edge (only Windows)
SauseLabs, BrowserStack Electron, & more
Still, your tests will need to be written in QUnit, Jasmine, Mocha, ... which can be too much work to port from CasperJs.

I am successfully using the Conductor framework to scrape data off a website. I use the Chrome browser and therefore I have installed chromedriver.exe in the root of my project.
To speed things up I want to replace Chrome with the headless PhantomJS browser. I installed PhantomJS as explained in the answer to this Stackoverflow question: PhantomJS & Conductor Framework and have changed the browser to Browser.PHANTOMJS in #Config.
Whatever I do however, I get no results.
I found no documentation how to setup PhantomJS for use with Selenium or PhantomJS.

The trouble you are having appears to be due to an older version of the PhantomJS library included in Conductor. The error when running PhantomJS can be found in this imported issue on the Selenium Github. The remedy is to import a fork of PhantomJS which works with the newer releases of Selenium.
You can easily implement this by editing the pom.xml file and swapping
<groupId>com.github.detro</groupId>
<artifactId>phantomjsdriver</artifactId>
<version>${phantomjs_version}</version>
with
<groupId>com.codeborne</groupId>
<artifactId>phantomjsdriver</artifactId>
<version>1.2.1</version>

Trying to port selenese commands from the Selenium IDE to a cron-usable task, and have gotten as far as getting these to run with Webdriver's HTMLSuite command using a local installation of Firefox. However, we need these to run without opening a visual browser - as we're already using PhantomJS elsewhere in the application this seemed like the logical option rather than going down the XVFB route.
Is this possible? I've tried a variety of commands but keep getting errors of phantomjs not being an accepted browser.
How do I run test cases made with Selenium IDE (Firefox Plugin) in a headless browser?
When I create test cases with the firefox plugin it saves them as .html files.
I am trying to setup a way of running them in a headless browser, (using phantomJS or another tool/lib). I have seen many people mention running firefox in a hidden frame, but this is not the same as headless (ie. PhantomJS)
I have already figured out how to run selenium test cases from command line, but only in firefox or ie, I can't get it to run .html testcases on phantomjs:

I know the IDE can export test cases in different languages, but I want non-tech team members to be able to create tests using the firefox plugin.

I have recorded scripts through Selenium IDE and converted them to JUnit 4 Webdriver scripts.
Of course converted scripts had to be changed to run smoothly as Junits. Now my next goal is to make these scripts run on CI, So obviously I need some headless browser for this purpose. I found some threads, but I am looking for Junits specifically.
What could be the best solution/approach for this, any help in this regard is appreciated.
Take a look at PhantomJS. It is a headless WebKit-based browser and there is Selenium WebDriver for that called GhostDriver.
That's what i use and is OK but there is also the option of using a headed browser like Firefox or Chrome and then use Xvfb to ignore screen output.
I want to run my Geb specs with chrome driver without having to watch the tests on the browser? can this be done?
P.D.: I know I can use the HtmlUnitDriver, but this driver sometimes gives my errors (caused mainly by timeouts) that the chrome driver don't.
There is currently no way to do this with Chrome, Safari, Opera or FireFox, however there are multiple options you can do. First is to pipe the "window" into a virtual frame buffer (if you're using Linux). This process will pop open the browser, only in memory. I talk about this in my blog post (http://www.ensor.cc/2011/05/maven-javascript-unit-test-using.html) during the maven pre-integration phase
The other option is to use the brand new GhostDriver. GhostDriver is a WebDriver implementation of PhantomJS which is a headless WebKit. This is WAY better than HtmlUnit but still has some features being built out. GhostDriver is currently not in Maven Central, so you will need to manually add it to the common repository. You can then use it as a WebDriver. This has worked for me with moderate success (90% of my test cases dropped in without any changes needed).
