How to always open file in the same editor? - intellij-idea

When I switch between files (Using ctrl-n for examples) in different editors, intellij always opens the file in the original editor the tab for the file is located. Coming from a vim background this seems counter intuitive for me. Is there a way to force intellij to always open the file in the same editor window?

When using Ctrl-Shift-N to open the desired file, Shift-Enter to confirm will maintain the focused tab group.

How to copy a link from markdown preview? Mouse right-click, Ctrl-C or Ctrl-Ins don't work. (copy doesn't work for any text in the preview?)

A markdown file is opened under IntelliJ and from its preview if I do a left click on a link, it will follow it and open it the default browser.
But for my current work, it's not what I'm willing to do.
I need to copy its underlying URL to open it on another browser of my choice, that isn't the default one.
But whatever I attempt:
Right-clicking on the link with the mouse
Attempt to copy it by selecting its text and doing Ctrl-C or Ctrl-Ins
the underlying URL of that link isn't copied and I cannot paste it.
Of course, I can enter the .md definition and select that URL part that is between parenthesis, but it's not convenient.

And furthermore, I cannot copy any text content from that preview...
Is there a way to make IntelliJ preview window of a markdown file gaining the expected ability of copying to the clipboard ?
Use markdown editor for this. For example Typora.

Stop IntelliJ from opening same file twice in horizontal split view

googled this but didn't have success.
I'm using the horizontal split view of IntelliJ (the view that allow us to have files on the upper and bottom part of the screen).
The problem is that whenever I search for a file using the search for a target feature, instead of opening the already opened file which is located on the upper files' list, it opens again on the bottom list but I'd like it to open the one that's already open on the upper list.
Do you know how to change this behavior?

File named "auth_actions.dart" won't be highlighted in Intellij-idea

I created a file named "auth_actions.dart" in a dart project(either angular or not). The file content would have text colour being plain white, without any highlighted.
If I rename it to "auth_action.dart" or "auth_actionss.dart", the highlight will come back.
I did some experiments even from some random projects downloaded from github, all of them had this issue.
Anyone know how to fix it? Does anyone see the same issue using the name "auth_actions.dart"?
I assume you accidentally added the file to
Preferences > Editor > File Types > Recognized File Types > Text
Remove it from Registered Patterns to get hightlighting again.
You could accidentally mark it as plain text (the option is in the right-click menu). In this case, the option to mark it back as a Dart file is also in the context menu.

Code editor with multiple categories of opened tabbed files?

Hi can anyone recommend a good, and ideally free editor that will allow me to group opened files based on a module or component I'm working on?
I'm learning joomla so I need one with php,JavaScript,HTML.
I'm currently using dreamweaver. It's great but I hate having to traverse through the file tabs which are usually hidden because I have so many files opened at once. I would ideally want something that will allow me to group these opened files almost like a folder structure where I can create a category for grouping the opened files together so as keep things that are related to one another close by.
Failing this please recommend what is the best approach when dealing with lots and lots of opened files.
I like how browser works because it allows me to open multiple instances and let me group the sites I want via tabs to each browser instance. Dreamweaver won't allow more than one instance. Is there anything out there that can do this?
UltraEdit gives tab a different color depending on the filetype - CSS are green, Javascript are orange, etc. I find this very useful. It also allows the tabs to spill over to several rows, instead of forcing them to one line like Dreamweaver.
If you do have to use Dreamweaver, you can use the file directory panel to traverse the folders on your hard disk. Double-click on a file in a subdirectory to open it, or switch to its tab if it is already open. The file directory panel is on the top-right by default, I think.
