I'm trying to write a small CONSOLE (not metro style) app to quickly change the user account image of the current user to a select image for a setup scrip that I'm running on a bunch of laptops.
They're all Windows 8 and (since it hasn't been out terribly long) I can't find a ton of info on it. I did manage to figure out that you need to use the Windows.System.UserProfile object to do so, but I can't find any documentation on how to do so in a console app.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

I am creating calculator VBO in blueprism object studio.
In application modeller I gave calc.exe path and able to launch calculator, but I am not getting identify option to spy on any element..
In Element, After clicking Launch buttion, identify is appearing for a split of sec and Launch button is coming back instead of Identify
PS- As mentioned in videos and links, I have launched calc via application modeller not directly via windows..

Windows 10 calculator is complicated case, please consider using different application in your training. For example paint is much simpler to get started.
If you really need to get that going, then you may need to launch application first, using one object, and afterwards use second object to attach and interact with it.
can be two reasons
1. Either your application is not launched properly.
2. Sometimes we face problems with some versions of applications.
The best way to fix your problem is
Edit your settings remove the application path from the navigate stage.
Launch the application separately
Open Navigate stage > Action > Attach
Provide the window title within quotes (example: "Calculator")
Click OK then run the object
Now if you go to application modeller
You will be able to see the identify button under the element.

I resolved this by unchecking "Disable invasive techniques (hooking)".
The Windows 10 calculator runs with process name win32calc which is also located under c:\windows\system32.
So when you launch the application please make you identify the applications process name and its location
I resolved this by circumventing to windows 7 calculator instead of a windows 10 calculator on windows 10.

This will be installed in the same place as your default calculator.

The name of the app in my case was "calc1.exe" to avoid collisions with the default calculator.
I used this as my base reference app for spying and it worked.
Also note, the hover to highlight button seems to be a bit buggy, try a bit hit and trail to get you required button to be highlighted and mark using "Ctrl+LeftClick"
I used samples from CGWindow API and SonOfGrab samples to get the windows list and grab them, in particularly I used CGWindowListCopyWindowInfo for retrieving the list of windows along with CGWindowListOption specified. However I have a problem here. The thing is that I only want to see the list of windows which belong to a running applications, i.e. I don't want to get windows for dock, system menu etc.
I tried to set kCGWindowListExcludeDesktopElements and kCGWindowListOptionOnScreenOnly flags, they removed some windows I'm not interested in, however even with these options set, I still have 'Dropbox icon in menu bar' window, dock window, system panel window etc. Is there a way to filter them out?
I also tried to request [[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] runningApps] to get the list of running applications. My idea was to get the process identifiers from runningApps and remove from the list of windows those ones who don't have process identifiers from the runningApps list. Unfortunately it didn't work out, since the list of running applications is way bigger than I expected and it also contains dashboard applications and other things. I tried to find a property or something like this to distinguish between these 'system apps' and 'real apps', however I wasn't able to achieve this.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

get the bundle for a running application
check its plist for if it is has a UIElement key -> those wouldn't be in the dock
=> then filter the windows against the remaining PIDs
Hi ive developed a application that works with my site by using
SendKeys.send("{ENTER}") to submit info on one of my forms.
Is there a way to stop it from running outside the application?
For example im trying to run the program in the background and when im browsing my facebook or on google it randomly keeps hitting enter.

The short answer is to look at the windows available for a process and check the titles to see if it's the page you want.

That said, there are much better ways to do this - If you're using firefox, look into GreaseMonkey, if in Chrome, look at TamperMonkey.
Both allow you to inject custom javascript into any page whose url matches a pattern you choose. In effect, you could write some Javascript to submit a form (say) 30 seconds after page load.
This would have the benefit of working if a different tab is selected as well as not requiring a whole application.
The SendKeys.Send method will indiscriminately send the key stroke to the active application. There is no way to use this API to target a specific application.
You could change your app to try and verify the active application is the one you want to send keys too. This is destined to be a flaky process though. No matter how good your verification is it's always possible that the active app is switched to another app after your verification completes.

I've passed many hours searching the web for a solution to something which seems obvious, but without results.
I need to automate a task in a Flash application running on my intranet.
I can't change the Flash application nor do I have access to the source code.
it's not a Flash movie but an application.
I can't download the swf.
I'm using a WebBrowser in a form. The Flash app is displaying without issues.
So far, I have been able to automate the task (clicking on some buttons, then inputting text and finally saving the results on a server). It works but it's not clean at all because I use hard-coded timers to wait a given action is done and then I click on very specific point at given coordinates in the application.
What I would like to do:
Avoid hard-coded timers. the Flash application takes some time to display all elements on the window (from 20 to 60+ sec). I would like to be able to detect when all elements are loaded. I tried to retrieve the text of the windows handle, but while I can retrieve the Flash hwnd, I can't retrieve the content (through messages).
In brief, instead of waiting 60sec (and not being 100% sure it's enough), if the last element to load in the Flash app has "ABC" written in it, I would like to detect it's displayed so that I can continue the sequence (click on the next button).
I'm using VB.net. Any hints to achieve that would be appreciated.
Lol. I am trying to do the same thing but with no results. You can try to see if there are POST/GET codes that can help you if the application has an online nature. Other than that you can only simulate clicks, because flash can't be easily interacted with. This is why most of the things are going to swap with HTML5 now.
Can a WinRT app continue to run while Screen Off?
I know that a WinRT application can create a Background Task that periodically executes even when the application is not running. Handy, but not what I am asking. What I am asking is, when the user clicks the power button and invokes Connected Standby, is there anything an app can do to remain active. Can it ask for some special capability?
Example - in Windows Phone there is a handy Running and Walking app that keeps track of "where you are" while it is running - then tallies your distances, etc. Even when the screen is off! Turn the screen on and the "where was I" map is up-to-date. Is this type of application possible in WinRT?
I've been looking into the same thing recently, and unfortunately it seems that what you want to do isn't possible with WinRT.
Why don't you use Background task to simulate what you are trying to achieve. When the user starts the app again, you could have the info populated to the latest data by looking at the store where the background process updated. Just a thought.
