My app displays an error dialog whenever a JavaScript error occurs. This is always a bad sign, so I want to set up my tests so that, if the error dialog appears, it causes the test to fail there and then.
So I'd like to do something like (very much pseudocode!);

But I'm having trouble and I think it has to do with the way Selenium schedules actions.
What I've found is that for a single driver, I can only schedule one thing at a time, so the guard I set up early in the test blocks the body of the test from starting.
Is there a better way to handle conditions like 'this should never happen', or a way to create two independent threads in the same test?
So the problem with the code you have is that it immediately runs it and waits for a VERY_LONG_TIMEOUT amount of time for that error dialog to appear. Since it never does, it continues to wait. You have already discovered that is not what you want... ;)
I haven't done anything like this but I think you want a JS event handler that watches for the event that is triggered when the error dialog appears. See the link below for some guidance there.
Can my WebDriver script catch a event from the webpage?
One option would be to watch for that event to fire and then store true (or whatever) in some JS variable. Before leaving a page, check to see if the variable is set to true and if so, fail the test. You can set and get JS variables using JavascriptExecutor. Some google searches should get you all you need to use it.
I've started a new React Native project and I keep getting the following warning:
Remote debugger is in a background tab which may cause apps to perform slowly. Fix this by foregrounding the tab (or opening it in a separate window).
It's a bit annoying so I wanna know how I can get rid of it? I'm running the debugger in Chrome and I moved it to a seperate window but it did not help.

For me warning went away by checking Maintain Priority Checkbox!
It is because of number of tabs are opened in the browser with React Native Remote Debugger UI tab. I also faced the same issue.
To overcome this warning message you can use any one method from the following:
Open an incognito tab then paste http://localhost:8081/debugger-ui on address bar and press ENTER. Finally reload the app (Command+R).
Close all the tabs in the browser. Keep only 1 tab opened then hit http://locahost:8081/debugger-ui then reload the app (Command+R).
As mentioned by #jakeforaker in one of the comment. The warning went away by simply opening the remote debugger in a separate window instead of a tab in your existing window of your browser (you have to reload your simulator though).

So i think simply suppressing warning as mentioned by #kjonsson:- console.ignoredYellowBox = ['Remote debugger']; doesnt seem to be best solution.
Since this commit in March 2017, you can enable the Maintain Priority checkbox. When enabled, it silently plays a base64-encoded .wav file to prevent the debugger's browser tab from entering low-power mode, which can affect websocket performance. This will effectively prevent the warning you describe.
This issue was resolved when I closed all open Chrome windows and started the Remove Debugging again. I had previously had open Chrome windows, so it 'seems' that having them open kills performance.
I think the accepted answer is no longer accurate (at least for React Native v0.57+).
The correct code is now:

I am on Macbook. I fixed this issue by bringing the Debugger window on main desktop, rather than on having it on separate desktop which it thinks is in "Background".
I had the same issue pop up yesterday. Googling it led to this Stack Overflow post. In one of the response (by adriansprod), he suggested:

It is likely that your React Native debugger is not in its own Chrome browser window but in a Chrome browser tab. Pulling it out as its own window, as adriansprod suggest, fixed this for me.
The (very annoying) error message is handled by debuggerWorker.js, which sadly doesn't include any configuration options to turn off the message. So for the time being there are no ways you can configure your application to disable the message.

I had minimised the "http://localhost:8081/debugger-ui/" window. Just opening it up (un minimising), and reloading the app removed the warning.

if you are using visual studio's package manger then don't start package manager by Mac/other os terminal command.
so close all terminal and stop on going package manger and google chrome debugger.

I'm developing ST2 on Chrome which uses localstorage. From time to time, it appears that the storage schema gets corrupted. When this happens, my app fails during load with "Uncaught typeError: Cannot read property 'isModel' of undefined". The only way to get my app running is to do localstorage.clear() in the console.
I'm assuming this is an ST2 bug, since the occurrence of the corruption seems unrelated to my code, or what I do in my app.
My main question is how do I catch the exception in such a way that either the app can recover, or the user is alerted as to what is going on? Right now, the app simply fails to load. I've tried wrapping the Ext.application() in app.js, but that is executing correctly. My launch function is not being reached.
There must be some weird thing going on with your app. Probably you have found the reason meanwhile and recognised the failing bit is somewhere in your app. Anyway if you are experiencing anything like this then probably the best bet is to catch the error event and do your error handling there. I.e.

CAsyncSocketEx uses a window as a sort of cheap thread to handle the event notifications that come from select(). Unfortunately, if you don't have a message loop, then the window which it creates will not receive these events.

This article explains that a call to CreateWindow() needs to be called from a thread which has a message loop. And if you don't, then anything sent via PostMessage() won't get there.
I've recently started to tinker with this -- I want to remove the annoying hidden window and replace it with a normal thread. Their code relies on WSAAsyncSelect() in order to receive socket events... to a window. Yuk!
It's been a while since I had the same problem, but if I remember correctly, to use CAsyncSocket in a console app you need to add something like DECLARE_CONSOLEAPP (first two links shown below) to your console app. This should give your console a message pump to generate the socket notifications (OnReceive, etc.) GUI apps have these pumps but console apps don't, generally. The third (msdn) link below might also apply, it has more info and a different way.
If these still don't work, you should put breakpoints in your socket code and make sure your socket isn't instantiated in a thread or callback other than the main console app (the one that now has the message pump).
I think googling around for 'CAsyncSocket WinApp' or 'CAsyncSocket console app' would show more.

I'm using UKCrashReporter in my app.
I've installed my own Uncaught
Exception Handler.
I'm setting up the

The Problem
If the managedObjectContext method throws an exception, the crash reporter dialog box only flashes up before the app crashes and so the user never gets to report the crash.
I want my app to continue only after the crash has been reported, not whilst the window is showing.
What I've tried
If UKCrashReporterCheckForCrash()
were an objective C method, I assume
I could call
performSelectorOnMainThread:waitUntilDone:YES
but it's not.
I've looked at some other Stack
Overflow questions about using
Conditional Locks to pause apps,
but I can't understand how I'd use it
for a C function.
How would I go about doing this in a nice way? Do people have any advice

I've been asked for more details on what I'm trying to do, so here goes.
The bug that triggered this thinking was an exception when merging managedObjectModels. My app got caught in a loop printing "Uncaught exception" to the console every few milliseconds.
And when I installed the uncaught exception handler before this exception happened, I'd get the described behaviour - my app would fire up, display the crash report dialog briefly, then continue to load and crash again.
Summary - I want to be able to handle errors that happen on startup.
(1) I'm not using bindings to do this, as I thought bindings would make testing the class more problematic.
I think your problem is with thinking of it as "pausing" your app. Think of it more as a different initial UI state. Your attempts to block the run loop will prevent any interactive window from ... well, being interactive. :-)
Your best bet is to show your main UI (and connect data sources, etc) only if the "am I prompting the user to submit a crash report" method says "no, go ahead and start normally". Otherwise, show your window and, when the user sends or declines to send the report, close the window and ask your app controller to continue the normal startup.
I looked at UKCrashReporterCheckForCrash() and it doesn't appear to create a window of any kind. It merely submits the crash. Could you describe what you're doing with more detail?
