Many subscriptions to a single queue with RabbitMQ STOMP - rabbitmq

Is it possible to bind a single queue to many topics using RabbitMQ STOMP client?
Each time a client sending SUBSCRIBE frame server creates a new queue for it, it makes usage of "prefetch-count" useless for me, because it applies to each subscription individually.
I am just looking for any way to get messages with many topics in the single queue via RabbitMQ Web-STOMP. Any ideas?

The header x-queue-name specified queue name should binding to same queue if there exist, but will exist multiple subscription on client.

RabbitMQ - Move messages before deleting a queue

Using RabbitMQ 3.7.16, with spring-amqp 2.2.3.RELEASE.
Multiple clients publish messages to the DataExchange topic exchange in our RabbitMQ server, using a unique routing key. In the absence of any bindings, the exchange will route all the messaged to the data.queue.generic through the AE.
When a certain client (client ID 1 and 2 in the diagram) publishes lots of messages, in order to scale the consumption of their messages independently from other clients, we are starting consumers and assign them to only handle a their client ID. To achieve this, each client-consumer is defining a new queue, and it binds it to the topic exchange with the routing key events.<clientID>.
So scaling up is covered and works well.
Now when the messages rate for this client goes down, we would like to also scale down its consumers, up to the point of removing all of them. The intention is to then have all those messages being routed to the GenericExchange, where there's a pool of generic consumers taking care of them.
The problem is that if I delete data.queue.2 (in order to remove its binding which will lead to new messages being routed to the GenericExchange) all its pending messages will be lost.
Here's a simplified architecture view:
It would be an acceptable solution to let the messages expire with a TTL in the client queue, and then dead letter them to the generic exchange, but then I also need to stop the topic exchange from routing new messages to this "dying" queue.
So what options do I have to stop the topic exchange from routing messages to the client queue where now there's no consumer connected to it?
Or to explore another path - how to dead letter messages in a deleted/expired queue?
If the client queue is the only one with a matching binding as your explanation seems to suggest, you can just remove the binding between the exchange and the queue.
From then on, all new messages for the client will go through the alternate exchange, your "generic exchange", to be processed by your generic consumers.
As for the messages left over in the client queue, you could use a shovel to send them back to the topic exchange, for them to be routed to the generic exchange.
This based on the assumption the alternate exchange is internal. If it's not internal, you can target it directly with the shovel.
As discussed with Bogdan, another option to resolve this while ensuring no message loss is occuring is to perform multiple steps:
remove the binding between the specific queue and the exchange
have some logic to have the remaining messages be either consumed or rerouted to the generic queue
if the binding removal occurs prior to the consumer(s) disconnect, have the last consumer disconnect only once the queue is empty
if the binding removal occurs after the last consumer disconnect, then have a TTL on messages with alternate exchange as the generic exchange
depending on the options selected before, have some cleanup mecanism to remove the lingering empty queues

RabbitMQ: dropping messages when no consumers are connected

I'm trying to setup RabbitMQ in a model where there is only one producer and one consumer, and where messages sent by the producer are delivered to the consumer only if the consumer is connected, but dropped if the consumer is not present.
Basically I want the queue to drop all the messages it receives when no consumer is connected to it.
An additional constraint is that the queue must be declared on the RabbitMQ server side, and must not be explicitly created by the consumer or the producer.
Is that possible?
I've looked at a few things, but I can't seem to make it work:
durable vs non-durable does not work, because it is only useful when the broker restarts. I need the same effect but on a connection.
setting auto_delete to true on the queue means that my client can never connect to this queue again.
x-message-ttl and max-length make it possible to lose message even when there is a consumer connected.
I've looked at topic exchanges, but as far as I can tell, these only affect the routing of messages between the exchange and the queue based on the message content, and can't take into account whether or not a queue has connected consumers.
The effect that I'm looking for would be something like auto_delete on disconnect, and auto_create on connect. Is there a mechanism in rabbitmq that lets me do that?
After a bit more research, I discovered that one of the assumptions in my question regarding x-message-ttl was wrong. I overlooked a single sentence from the RabbitMQ documentation:
Setting the TTL to 0 causes messages to be expired upon reaching a queue unless they can be delivered to a consumer immediately

It turns out that the simplest solution is to set x-message-ttl to 0 on my queue.
You can not doing it directly, but there is a mechanism not dificult to implement.
You have to enable the Event Exchange Plugin. This is a exchange at which your server app can connect and will receive internal events of RabbitMQ. You would be interested in the consumer.created and consumer.deleted events.

If your consumer is allowed to dynamically bind / unbind a queue during start/stop on the broker it should be possible by that way (e.g. queue is pre setup and the consumer binds the queue during startup to an exchange it wants to receive messages from)

Does rabbitmq support to push the same data to multi consumers?

I have a rabbitmq cluster used as a working queue. There are 5 kinds of consumers who want to consume exactly the same data.
What I know for now is using fanout exchange to "copy" the data to 5 DIFFERENT queues. And the 5 consumers can consume different queue. This is kind of wasting resources because the data is the same in file queues.
My question is, does rabbitmq support to push the same data to multi consumers? Just like a message need to be acked for a specified times to be deleted.
I got the following answer from rabbitmq email group. In short, the answer is no... and what I did above is the correct way.

You can consume with 5 consumers from one queue if you do not want to duplicate messages.

In AMQP protocol terms you publish message to exchange and then broker (RabbitMQ) decide what to do with messages - assume it figured out the queue message intended for (one or more) and then put that message on top of that queue (queues in RabbitMQ are classic FIFO queues which is somehow break AMQP implementation in RabbitMQ). Only after that message may be delivered to consumer (or die due to queue length limit or per-queue or per-message ttl, if any).

There are no way to change message body or attributes after message being published (actually, Dead Letter Exchanges extension and some other may change routing key, for example and add,remove and change some headers, but this is very specific case). So if you want to track ack's number you have to re-publish consumed message with changed body or header (depends on where do you plan to store ack's counter, but headers fits pretty nice for this.
Also note, that there are redeliverd message attribute which denotes whether message was already was consumed, but then redelivered. This flag doesn't count redelivers number so it usage is quite limited.

How to get delivery path in rabbitmq to become message property?

The undelying use case
It is typical pubsub use case: Consider we have M news sources, and there are N subscribers who subscribe to the desired news sources, and who want to get news updates. However, we want these updates to land up in mongodb - essentially maintain most recent 'k' updates (and can be indexed and searched etc.). We want to design for M to scale upto million publishers, N to scale to few millions.
Subscribers' updates are finally received and stored in more than one hosts and their native mongodbs.
Modeling in rabbitmq
Rabbitmq will be used to persist the mappings (who subscribes to which news source).
I have setup a pubsub system in this way: We create publisher exchanges (each mapping to one news source) and of type 'fanout'.
For modelling subscribers, there are two options.
In the first option, have one queue for each subscriber bound to relevant publisher exchanges. And let the client process open connections to all these subscriber queues and receive the updates (and persist them to mongodb). Note that in this option, when the client is restarted, it has to manage list of all susbcribers, and open connections to all subscriber queues it is responsible for.
In the second option, we want to be able to remove overhead of having to explicitly open on each user queue upon startup. Instead, we want to listen to only one queue - representative of all subscribers who will send updates to this client host.
For achieving this, we first create one exchange for each subscriber and let it bind to the publisher exchange(s) that it follows. We let a single queue for each client, and let the subscriber exchange bind to this queue (type=direct) if the subscriber belongs to that client.
Once the client receives the update message, it should come to know which subscriber exchange it came from. Only then we can add it to mongodb for relevant subscriber. Presumably the subscriber exchange should add this information as a new header on the message.
As per rabbitmq docs, I believe there is no way to get achieve this. (Or more specifically, to get the 'delivery path' property from the delivered message, from which we can get this information).
My questions:
Is it possible to add a new header to message as it passes through exchange?
If this is not possible, then can we achieve it through custom exchange and relevant plugin? Any plugin that I can readily use for this purpose?
I am curious as to why rabbitmq is not providing delivery path property as an optional configuration?
Is there any other way I can achieve the same? (See pubsubhubbub note below)

The use case is very similar to what pubsubhubbub protocol provides for. And there is rabbitmq plugin too called rabbithub. However, our system will be a closed system, and I believe that the webhook approach of the protocol is going to be too much of overhead compared to listening on single queue (and from performance perspective.)
The producer (RMQ Client) of the message should add all the required headers (including the originator's identity) before producing (publishing) it on RMQ. These headers are used for routing.
If, while in transit, the message (including headers) needs to be transformed (e.g. adding new headers), it needs to be sent to the transformer (another RMQ Client). This transformer will essentially become the new publisher.
The actual consumer should receive its intended messages (for which it has subscribed to) through single queue. The routing of all its subscribed messages should be arranged on the RMQ Exchange.
Managing the last 'K' updates should neither be the responsibility of the producer nor the consumer. So, it should be done in the transformer. Producers' messages should be routed to this transformer (for storage) before further re-routing to exchange(s) from where consumers consume.

ActiveMQ + Stomp: Multi-subscriber queue

I'm interacting with ActiveMQ via STOMP. I have one application which publishes messages and a second application which subscribes and processes the messages.
If I am writing messages to a queue I can be certain that, if I have two consumers, each message will only be processed once (because when a message is completed it is removed from the queue) - but is this functionality available from a topic?
For example; I have a third application which is a logger. I want the logger to receive each message the publisher emits, but I also want exactly one of two (or three or four etc…) of the processors to receive the message too.
Is this possible?

It occurs to me that a good way of doing this would be to have a topic which the publisher writes to, and a queue which the processors listen to, with something pushing every message from the topic onto the queue. Can ApacheMQ do this internally?
You can do this internally in ActiveMQ using Mirrored Queues and also use Virtual Topics for some other advanced routing semantics. If you want to have the option of other EIP type messaging patterns then I'd recommend you look into Apache Camel which provides a whole host of EIP pattern functionality.
