I am using content query web part to display pages from pages library.
I want to configure my web part to display pages according to number of page views. most popular page (according to number of views) should be on top. Is it out of the box functionality in SharePoint 2010?
Simple answer: No, this is not included out of the box.
To achieve this, you need to add the number of page views to the page item, then sort by this number by using the Content By Query Web Part. This is not a out-of-the-box solution.
You can show the most popular pages using the rating system, but this is different than basing it on the number of views.

Good morning,
I am developing my Web Application using .Net Core 3.1 and Razor Pages.
In my application I need to display a large amount of data on a grid and would therefor like to rotate a standard grid 90 degrees. I would like to obtain something like the "Horizontal Scroll" of this blog post but instead of just scrolling horizontally I would likle to move the headers to the side and, as mentioned above, rotate the entire grid fields.
I can't find any API that suites my needs though. Does anyone have suggestions on something I could try? I wouldn't want to have to build the entire grid myself (with all the paging, filtering and ordering logic). I am open for alternative solutions as well!!
Thanks everyone!
This seems more like an HTML question, and does not really relate to Razor Pages. Here are a couple of examples of horizontal scrolling HTML tables:
https://mdbootstrap.com/docs/jquery/tables/scroll/#datatable-horizontal-scroll
https://datatables.net/examples/basic_init/scroll_x.html
You said you need to display a large amount of data, I think the
design you currently want is not suitable for the display of a large
amount of data.
Because if the title is on the left, then only one data can be displayed on each page, and each page needs to load the title, which will lead to great redundancy.
If you just want to display beautiful because of too many columns, I suggest you use the responsive property in jQuery datatable, which can dynamically display the number of columns according to your current page width, and collapse or display the extra columns.
You can refer to this.
Inherited a Sitefinity website. There's a news list page, which I discovered is reused by the news detail pages to display content. If I update the list page, the changes are reflected on the detail pages.
Sometimes.
I have a content block that contains a "header" text - updating this in the list page is replicated across the details pages. Adding a javascript widget to the page to inject some custom javascript replicates across the details pages as well.
Adding a new content block or css widget does not replicate across the details pages.
Is there some rhyme or reason to this behavior that I'm missing?
My specifics:
I've successfully created widgets in the MVC several times now. I essentially need to add a new widget to just the news pages. Which seemed simple enough until I discovered that news pages are not individually created pages like... well, pages... but instead are just a content piece that is dynamically inserted in the news widget on the "parent" listing page. At least as far as I can tell that's how it appears to be working.
Adding my widget to the page didn't work, as I explained above. I then tried recreating it in the page itself using javascript, content block, and css widgets, at which time I discovered that the javascript is the only one making it to the details pages. I imagine this has to do with the way javascript widgets actually make it to the page - their placement is selected in advanced options, rather than simply appearing inline.
Sitefinity widgets go beyond presentation, and actually control routing.
As such content widgets (baseline or custom) have two 'modes' that they operate in: list and detail. Slugs for details are automatically generated in the following format.
/News
/News/{News-item-slug}
Of course, a list and a detail should look very different. To accommodate that, the widgets have two separate configurable templates.
So, add your custom html and javascript to the appropriate template to have it only apply in a given mode.
I have seen some sites where you search (in Google) for a particular item category and when you click the link found in Google it automatically goes to the site clicked with the search criteria filled in displaying the categorised products.
Hypothetical Example
Go into Google type in Sony TV , click to search.
Results are displayed.
Clicking one of the links takes me to a website which shows all the Sony TV models beginning with AA.
Looking at the search options on the page some fields have been automatically filled in (in other words if you did this search manually the site would prompt you to enter some search criteria) - Not sure if this is relevant but thought to mention.
How is this done? Do i need to setup something in our Google account to get the same results?
It's fairly simple. You pass parameters in your URLs that identify the product, and then you just read the URL parameters when pre-populating the search form on the page. When building your site / sitemap / internal & external links you use those page URLs and Google will naturally pick them up.
In your example, you search for Sony TV. One of the results may be
example.com/index.php?product=sony-tv
The website has the variable sony-tv, which it gets from the URL and pre-populates on the search form.
The important part to note is that the site will have built its URL structure in this method typically and the page you're presented with just happens to look like the site dynamically searched based on your query (it hasn't).
I'm building a web application where users can search for pdf documents and view them with pdf.js. I would like to display the search results with a short snippet of the paragraph where the search term where found and a link to open the document at the right page.
So what I need is the page number and a short text snippet of every search result.
I'm using SOLR 4.1 to index pdf documents. The indexing itself works fine but I don't know how to get the page number and paragraph of a search result.
I found this here "Indexing PDF with page numbers with Solr" but it wasn't really helpfully.
I'm now splitting the PDF and sending each page separately to SOLR.
So every page is an own document with an id <id_of_document>_<page_number> and an additional field doc_id which contains only the <id_of_document> for grouping the results.
There is JIRA SOLR-380 with a Patch, which you can check upon.
I also tried getting the results with page number but could not do it. I used Apache PDFBox for splitting all the PDFs present in a directory and sending the files to Solr server.
I have not tried it myself.
Approach,
Solr customer connector integrating with Apache Tika parser for indexing PDFs
Create multiple attributes in Solr like page1, page2, page3…,pageN – Alternatively, can use dynamic attributes in Solr
In the customer connector, read the PDFs, page by page, index them onto the respective page attributes/dynamic attributes
Enable search on all the “page” attributes
When user searches, use the “highlighter/Summary/Teaser” component to only retrieve “page” attributes that has hits
The “page” attributes that has a hit (find from highlighter/Summary/Teaser) for a given records are the pages that has the searched phrase.
Link the PDF with the “#PageNumber” of the PDF and pop up the page on click
A far better approach compared to splitting the PDFs and indexing them as separate Solr docs.
If you find a flaw in this design, respond to my thread. I will attempt to resolve it.
I had a look at http://www.westernaustralia.com/au/Pages/Welcome_to_Western_Australia.aspx and I know it's a SharePoint site and I am wondering how it could have been made.
I am mostly interrested in the center column (What's On). Is it an announcement list with thumbnails and Find out more links are pointing to wiki pages? Could it be a custom web part or is it possible to do this sort of thing with SharePoint 2010 out of the box?
Thanks in advance.
You can do this easily with a "What's New" web part. Customize your library view setting and set your webpart to use that view. Add a simple content editor at the bottom of this web part and add those other links like View All etc...
Remember that you can create your own list and make sure to index it so that it can rollback into the What's New webpart.
Looking at the emitted HTML it looks like a custom user control in the page layout to me (hell I could be wrong)
That said though it is possible to do this OOTB and I could build that functionality using the Content Query Web Part and some custom XSL
