How do I make a synchronous request using RestKit?
I used earlier this way(SBJSON):
UIDevice *myDevice = [UIDevice currentDevice];
NSString *deviceUDID = [myDevice uniqueIdentifier];
double v = [[[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion]doubleValue];
NSString *version=[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%# %.1f",deviceType,v];
NSString *encodedParam1 =[version stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSString *requestString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"method=views.get&view_name=client_list",nil];
NSData *requestData = [NSData dataWithBytes: [requestString UTF8String] length: [requestString length]];
NSString *urlString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"http://localhost/index.php?oper=StoreDeviceId&device_id=%#&device_version=%#",deviceUDID,encodedParam1];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlString]];
[request setHTTPMethod: #"POST"];
[request setValue:#"application/x-www-form-urlencoded" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
[request setHTTPBody: requestData];
//Data returned by WebService
NSData *returnData = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: request returningResponse: nil error: nil ];
[request release];
NSString *returnString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:returnData encoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSDictionary *dict1 = [returnString JSONValue];
same operation how to handle using restkit framework.
Advance thanks
Here is an example of a synchronous post using RKClient
//Configure RKLog
RKLogConfigureByName("RestKit/Network", RKLogLevelTrace);
//Set Client
RKClient *client = [RKClient clientWithBaseURLString:#"some_base_url"];
//Params to be send
NSDictionary *queryParameters = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:#"1",#"first_value",#"2",#"second_value",nil];
//Prepare the request and send it
RKRequest *request = [client post:#"path" params:queryParameters delegate:nil];
RKResponse *response = [request sendSynchronously];
//Process the response
NSString *stringResponse = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:[response body] encoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSDictionary *dict1 = [stringResponse JSONValue];
but I recommend to use asynchronous calls using blocks instead!.
To make a synchronous request using RestKit, use RKRequest's -sendSynchronously method after setting up the the RKRequest instance as normal.

There is way to much code. The substringToIndex and substringFromIndex are wrong, should not be in the code.
Use the literal syntax for the dictionaries:
NSDictionary *jsonDict = #{#"jsonData":#{#"password":password, #"empId":userName}};
NSData* jsonData = [NSJSONSerialization dataWithJSONObject:jsonDict options:0 error:&error];
I want to parse REST API with JSON is there any Best Example or Tutorial so help me...... Like I want to post request like Login and Register and then parse Feed using REST API..... I am using below code to post request
NSString *email = #"*******";
NSString *password = #"******";
NSString *apikey = #"********";
NSString *loginURL = #"***************";
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:loginURL];
NSString *JSONString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"{\"apikey\":\"%#\",\"email\":\"%#\",\"password\":\"%#\"}", apikey, email, password];
NSData *JSONBody = [JSONString dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSMutableURLRequest *loginRequest = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url];
loginRequest.HTTPMethod = #"POST";
loginRequest.HTTPBody = JSONBody;
NSOperationQueue *queue = [NSOperationQueue new];
[NSURLConnection sendAsynchronousRequest:loginRequest
queue:queue
completionHandler:^(NSURLResponse *response, NSData *data, NSError *error){
NSLog(#"resp:%#",response);
// Manage the response here.
}];
To parse the JSON response, you will need to implement
id obj = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:data];
in your completionHandler.
To get NSDictionary object from server response you may use :
NSDictionary *myDict = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:data options:NSJSONReadingMutableContainers error: &error];
After that you can get objects and keys from myDict
The good tutorial you can find here http://www.raywenderlich.com/5492/
Try this
NSDictionary *sampledict = #{#"email":email,#"password":password,#"apikey":apikey};
NSData *dataJson = [NSJSONSerialization dataWithJSONObject:sampledict options:0 error:NULL];
NSMutableURLRequest *loginRequest = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url];
loginRequest.HTTPMethod = #"POST";
loginRequest.HTTPBody = dataJson;
//add these lines
[loginRequest setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Accept"];
[loginRequest setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
//remaining is the same in your code
NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:#"http://nyxmyx.com/Kinkey/KinkeyPHP/lastidretrieve.php"];
NSData *data = [url resourceDataUsingCache:YES];
NSString *string = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSMacOSRomanStringEncoding];
NSLog(#"result FOR ID %#",string);
I am using this code in didenterBackgroundMethod.In that i just want to call lastidretrieve.php which returns a response as a string.I am getting error as "receiver type nsurl for instance message does not declare a method with selector resourceDataUsingCache".i have no idead about this error.
Use this code instead of your code it gives the string output ,then you have to format that string to get disired output.
NSString *post =#"";
NSURL *url=[NSURL URLWithString:#"http://nyxmyx.com/Kinkey/KinkeyPHP/lastidretrieve.php"];
NSData *postData = [post dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding allowLossyConversion:YES];
NSString *postLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", [postData length]];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] init];
[request setURL:url];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:postLength forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Length"];
[request setHTTPBody:postData];
NSError *error = [[NSError alloc] init];
NSHTTPURLResponse *response = nil;
NSData *urlData=[NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error];
if ([response statusCode] >=200 && [response statusCode] <300)
{
//NSData *data = [responseData resourceDataUsingCache:YES];
NSString *string = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:urlData encoding:NSMacOSRomanStringEncoding];
NSLog(#"responseData-%#",string);
}
Output will be like this.
responseData-1995<br />prabu<br />1231231233<br />antab<br />8080808080<br />1360738531881.jpg<br />No
UPDATE
In case you want to add argument in your URL than change post string to this.
NSString *post =[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:#"yourArg=%#",yourArg];
It would have been sufficient to read the documentation of NSURL. This method is deprecated. You should use [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url] instead.
Im' trying to submit to Reddit via my iOS app. I can login fine and am sent back a modhash and a cookie which I save via NSUserDefaults.
The issue is when I post the data I keep getting "USER_REQUIRED" as the response, even though I have included the modhash in the post and set my session cookie. I have even included the following in my app delegate:
[[NSHTTPCookieStorage sharedHTTPCookieStorage]
setCookieAcceptPolicy:NSHTTPCookieAcceptPolicyAlways];
But it still doesn't work. Here is my code:
-(void) post {
NSString *modhash2 = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]
objectForKey:#"modhash"];
NSString *urlString = [NSString
stringWithFormat:#"https://ssl.reddit.com/api/submit"];
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:urlString];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url];
NSString *contentType = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"application/x-www-form-urlencoded;"];
[request addValue:contentType forHTTPHeaderField: #"Content-Type"];
[request addValue:redditCookie forHTTPHeaderField:#"Cookie"];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
NSString *httpBody = [NSString stringWithFormat
:#" ?uh=%#&kind=link&url=%#&sr=%#&title=%#&r=%#&api_type=json",
modhash2,
#"www.google.com",
#"test",
#"Google.com",
#"test"];
[request setHTTPBody:[httpBody dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]];
NSURLResponse* response;
NSError* error = nil;
NSData* result = [NSURLConnection
sendSynchronousRequest:request
returningResponse:&response
error:&error];
NSDictionary *json = [NSJSONSerialization
JSONObjectWithData:result
options:NSJSONReadingMutableContainers
error:nil];
NSDictionary *responseJSON = [json valueForKey:#"json"];
NSLog(#"RETURN: %#",responseJSON);
}
Any ideas?
I am sending a JSON string to our server using the POST method. What should happen is that it should return a response showing "Array(JSON String) Array(JSON String)". The response contains two arrays: The first array is populated if I used the POST method, while the second array is populated if I use the GET method. I tried sending the JSON through GET method and indeed, the second array was populated. However, when I tried to send JSON through POST method, both arrays are returned empty.
Here is the code I used:
NSData *requestData = [NSJSONSerialization dataWithJSONObject:sqlArray options:NSJSONWritingPrettyPrinted error:&error];
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:#"http://myurl/xmlrpc/imwebsrvcjson.php"];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url cachePolicy:NSURLRequestUseProtocolCachePolicy timeoutInterval:60];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Accept"];
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
[request setValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", [requestData length]] forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Length"];
[request setHTTPBody:requestData];
NSData *result =[NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error];
NSString *returnString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:result encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
if (error == nil){
NSLog(#"The Result string: %#", returnString);
}
Can you tell me what is wrong with my code?
Here's what I do (please note that the JSON going to my server needs to be a dictionary with one value (another dictionary) for key = question..i.e. {:question => { dictionary } } ):
NSArray *objects = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]valueForKey:#"StoreNickName"],
[[UIDevice currentDevice] uniqueIdentifier], [dict objectForKey:#"user_question"], nil];
NSArray *keys = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:#"nick_name", #"UDID", #"user_question", nil];
NSDictionary *questionDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjects:objects forKeys:keys];
NSDictionary *jsonDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:questionDict forKey:#"question"];
NSString *jsonRequest = [jsonDict JSONRepresentation];
NSLog(#"jsonRequest is %#", jsonRequest);
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:#"https://xxxxxxx.com/questions"];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url
cachePolicy:NSURLRequestUseProtocolCachePolicy timeoutInterval:60.0];
NSData *requestData = [NSData dataWithBytes:[jsonRequest UTF8String] length:[jsonRequest length]];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Accept"];
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
[request setValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", [requestData length]] forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Length"];
[request setHTTPBody: requestData];
NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc]initWithRequest:request delegate:self];
if (connection) {
receivedData = [[NSMutableData data] retain];
}
The receivedData is then handled by:
NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSDictionary *jsonDict = [jsonString JSONValue];
NSDictionary *question = [jsonDict objectForKey:#"question"];
This isn't 100% clear and will take some re-reading, but everything should be here to get you started. And from what I can tell, this is asynchronous. My UI is not locked up while these calls are made. Hope that helps.
