So I don't know any way to draw text or strings but a UILabel. So I initialized the label, but it keeps crashing my app.
Here are the methods that initialize the labels and are causing the crash:
-(void) setupScore{
scoreLabel = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", score];
scoreLabel.frame = CGRectMake(262, 250, 100, 40);
[scoreLabel setText: scoreString];
//normally you'll want a transparent background for your label
scoreLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
//you can use non-standard fonts
[scoreLabel setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"TimesNewRoman" size: 1.0f]];
//change the label's text color
scoreLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
//add it to your view
scoreLabel.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(89.53);
[self addSubview:scoreLabel]; }
-(void) setupPausedLabel{
pausedLabel = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"Tap To Resume"];
pausedLabel.frame = CGRectMake(262, 250, 100, 40);
[pausedLabel setText: #"Tap To Resume"];
//normally you'll want a transparent background for your label
pausedLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
//you can use non-standard fonts
[pausedLabel setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"TimesNewRoman" size: 1.0f]];
//change the label's text color
pausedLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
//add it to your view
pausedLabel.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(89.53);
[pausedLabel setHidden: YES];
[self addSubview:pausedLabel]; }
Thanks for your help!
You are doing :
scoreLabel = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", score];
You should do :
scoreLabel = [[UILabel alloc] init]; // And release it somewhere
scoreString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", score];
and same for the pauseLabel.
You are wrong in your first line.
scoreLabel = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", score];
scoreLabel=[[UILable alloc]init];
scoreLabel.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%i",score];
And Same Problem in NextMethod
pausedLabel = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"Tap To Resume"];
It's not Right
pausedLabel=[[UILable alloc]init];
pausedLable.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:#"Tap To Resume"];
UILable text Property you are messing so it's give you crashing problem
You are initializing your label with a NSString class it should be a UILabel. Make sure you generate your string with the good formater: %d for integer and %# for an NSString object. Check this doc to find the appropriate specifier:
NSString* scoreString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", score];
NSString* anotherString = #"Tap To Resume";
NSString* pausedString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", anotherString];
-(void) setupScore{
scoreLabel.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", score];
scoreLabel.frame = CGRectMake(262, 250, 100, 40);
[scoreLabel setText: scoreString];
//normally you'll want a transparent background for your label
scoreLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
//you can use non-standard fonts
[scoreLabel setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"TimesNewRoman" size: 1.0f]];
//change the label's text color
scoreLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
//add it to your view
scoreLabel.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(89.53);
[self.view addSubview:scoreLabel];
}
It's working fine I'm calling it in viewDidLoad
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
scoreLabel=[[UILabel alloc]init];
scoreString=[NSString stringWithString:#"1221"];
score=10;
[self setupScore];
scoreString=[NSString stringWithString:#"11"];
[self setupScore];
scoreString=[NSString stringWithString:#"333"];
[self setupScore];
[self setupScore];
scoreLabel.text=#"okey...";
}

I have a small problem and hope someone can help me solve it ... I searched the net and made some attempts, but I could not solve my problem.
I created a FOR loop that plays a specified number of labels obtained through an array, as you can see from the code that I posted below ...
Now my problem is how to insert constraint programmatically. I need that between a label and the other (horizontal) there is a specific space.
Example:
if I label 4 I would like these would take around the horizontal space is in the iPhone display SE both iPhone 7 Plus ..
So my question is how do I set a specific space between each label and pass in the FOR loop?
CGFloat padding = 0;
NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects:#"INFO UNIVERSITARIE",#"INFO GENERALI", #"TROVA SEDI", nil];
for (NSInteger i = 0; i < array.count; i ++) {
NSString *valueText = [array objectAtIndex:i];
UILabel *label = [[UILabel alloc] init];
label.frame = CGRectMake(padding *i, 0, 50, 30);
label.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", valueText];
label.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
label.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue" size:12];
[label sizeToFit];
[_baseView addSubview:label];
padding = label.frame.size.width;
label.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = NO;
}
Researching this, I remembered that the UIStackView is our new friend, designed specifically for this problem.
NSArray *array = #[ #"INFO UNIVERSITARIE",#"INFO GENERALI", #"TROVA SEDI" ];
NSMutableArray *labels = [NSMutableArray array];
for (NSString *string in array) {
UILabel *label = [[UILabel alloc] init];
label.text = string;
[labels addObject:label];
}
UIStackView *stackView = [[UIStackView alloc] initWithArrangedSubviews:labels];
stackView.axis = UILayoutConstraintAxisHorizontal;
stackView.spacing = 12.0;
stackView.frame = self.view.bounds;
[self.view addSubview:stackView];
Just learned about this myself, but I tried this code and it works nicely.
I am using custom font and uppercased text for navigation item title text which contain diacritics. Problem is, the diacritics is cut from top, probably because the title label has wrong height.
So question is, can I affect the title label height? Or access directly the title label and do something like sizeToFit, or change frame or something.
// custom font settings
NSDictionary *attr = #{
NSFontAttributeName: [UIFont fontWithName:#"FishmongerK-XCondLight" size:23.0],
NSForegroundColorAttributeName: [UIColor whiteColor]
};
[[UINavigationBar appearance] setTitleTextAttributes: attr];
// then setting of title
self.navigationItem.title = [NSLocalizedString(#"Oblíbené", nil) uppercaseString];
If i try smaller font size, diacritics is still cut from top.
-(void)setCustomNavTitle:(NSString*)title andDescription:(NSString*)desc {
NSString * locname = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#\n", title];
NSString * cityname = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", desc];
NSString * text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#%#", [locname capitalizedString], cityname];
NSDictionary *attribs = #{
NSForegroundColorAttributeName:[UIColor colorWithHexString:#"222222"],
NSFontAttributeName: [UIFont fontWithName:[[Variables getInstance] HelveticaNeue] size:14]
};
NSMutableAttributedString *attributedText = [[NSMutableAttributedString alloc] initWithString:text attributes:attribs];
NSRange range = [text rangeOfString:cityname];
[attributedText setAttributes:#{NSForegroundColorAttributeName:[UIColor colorWithHexString:#"222222"],
NSFontAttributeName:[UIFont fontWithName:[[Variables getInstance] HelveticaNeueLight] size:14]} range:range];
UILabel *titleLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 120, 44)];
titleLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:[[Variables getInstance] HelveticaNeueMedium] size:15];
titleLabel.attributedText = attributedText;
titleLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
titleLabel.textAlignment = NSTextAlignmentCenter;
titleLabel.numberOfLines=0;
titleLabel.lineBreakMode = NSLineBreakByWordWrapping;
titleLabel.textColor = [UIColor blackColor];
self.navigationItem.titleView = titleLabel;
}
need to make effect, that text is interrupted by another text/uiimageview, but cannot understand how does it works. For example i need to make interface similar to ios7 status bar where operator name such a "Oper ..." + icon + time. So i cannot do this right way
operatorName = [self getOperatorName];
UILabel *operatorLabel = [[UILabel alloc] init];
operatorLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
operatorLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue-Light" size:kStatusBarFontOperatorSize];
operatorLabel.textColor = kStatusBarTextColor;
operatorLabel.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0.f, -0.6);
operatorLabel.shadowColor = kStatusBarTextShadow;
operatorLabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES;
operatorLabel.text = operatorName;
operatorLabel.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, operatorStrSize.width, operatorStrSize.height);
[operatorLabel sizeToFit];
/* connection type */
UIImageView *conImgView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:conImg];
/* time in status bar */
time = [self getStatusBarTime];
UILabel *statusBarLabel = [[UILabel alloc] init];
statusBarLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue-Medium" size:kStatusBarFontSize];
statusBarLabel.textColor = kStatusBarTextColor;
statusBarLabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES;
statusBarLabel.text = time;
int maxDistance = imgView.frame.size.width/2 - timeStrSize.width/2;
int connectionPower = 44;
double delimiter = 0;
NSString *cName = [self returnChoosenConnectionName];
if ([cName isEqualToString:#"Wi-Fi"]) {
delimiter = 6.5;
} else {
delimiter = 9.5;
}
int fullLine = connectionPower + operatorLabel.frame.size.width + delimiter + conImgView.frame.size.width;
if (fullLine > maxDistance) {
// need to interrupt text in operator name, but how ?
} else {
// all good placed
x = 44.0;
operatorLabel.frame = CGRectMake(x, 3.0, operatorStrSize.width , operatorStrSize.height);
[operatorLabel sizeToFit];
NSString *cName = [self returnChoosenConnectionName];
if ([cName isEqualToString:#"Wi-Fi"]) {
x += operatorLabel.frame.size.width + 6.5;
} else {
x += operatorLabel.frame.size.width + 9.5;
}
conImgView.frame = CGRectMake(x, 0.0, conImgView.frame.size.width, conImgView.frame.size.height);
[imgView addSubview:operatorLabel];
[imgView addSubview:conImgView];
}
statusBarLabel.frame = CGRectMake(imgView.frame.size.width/2 - timeStrSize.width/2, 2.5, timeStrSize.width , timeStrSize.height);
[imgView addSubview:statusBarLabel];

I would suggest to use autolayout rather than trying to calculate everything yourself. You may use XIB and set constraints in there or you may do everything programmatically. Here is a sample code that will get you started. It creates controls and sets constraints programatically; it doesn't use XIB.
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
/*
Uncomment this if you would like to translate your subviews vertically.
UIView *view = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 40, self.view.frame.size.width, 50)];
[self.view addSubview:view];
UIView *superview = view;
*/
UIView *superview = self.view;
UILabel *label1 = [[UILabel alloc] init];
label1.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue-Light" size:14.0];
label1.text = #"MTS";
[label1 sizeToFit];
[label1 setTranslatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints:NO];
UILabel *label2 = [[UILabel alloc] init];
label2.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue-Medium" size:14.0];
label2.text = #"1:22 PM";
[label2 sizeToFit];
[label2 setTranslatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints:NO];
UIImageView *image1 = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"strength.png"]];
UIImageView *image2 = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"carrier.png"]];
[image1 setTranslatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints:NO];
[image2 setTranslatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints:NO];
[image1 sizeToFit];
[image2 sizeToFit];
[superview addSubview:image1];
[superview addSubview:label1];
[superview addSubview:image2];
[superview addSubview:label2];
NSDictionary *viewsDictionary = NSDictionaryOfVariableBindings(image1, image2, label1, label2);
NSString *format = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"|-[image1(<=%f)]-[label1]-[image2(<=%f)]-[label2(>=20)]-|",
image1.frame.size.width, image2.frame.size.width];
NSArray *constraints;
constraints = [NSLayoutConstraint constraintsWithVisualFormat:format
options:NSLayoutFormatAlignAllCenterY
metrics:nil
views:viewsDictionary];
[self.view addConstraints:constraints];
}
When adding views to a layout in code iOS will attempt to convert the autosizing mask for that view to auto layout constraints. Those auto-generated constraints will conflict with any constraints added within the application code. It is essential to turn the translation off:
setTranslatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints:NO
The result of the code is:
I have a problem in my App. I set a badge value at one of the tabs in the UITabBar. The Badge value is correctly red and the circle around the badge value is correctly in white. The problem is, that the color of the text is gray (160, 160, 160). It is the same color like the normal state tabbaritem text is, but I set this color nowhere in the app code and I do not know where this color come from.
I searched for that issue in the whole net since weeks but I cannot find any solution. The only answer I found everywhere is, that it is not possible to change the color of the text of the badge value. But if it is not possible, why is it changed in my app?
I hope, that somebody can help me with that issue...

Code for overwritten UILabel:
// -- file: UILabel+VerticalAlign.h
#pragma mark VerticalAlign

- (void)alignBottom;
- (void)awakeFromNib;
-(id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame;
#end
#import "UILabel+VerticalAlign.h"
// -- file: UILabel+VerticalAlign.m
#implementation UILabel (VerticalAlign)
- (void)alignTop {
CGSize fontSize = [self.text sizeWithFont:self.font];

double finalWidth = self.frame.size.width; //expected width of label
CGSize theStringSize = [self.text sizeWithFont:self.font constrainedToSize:CGSizeMake(finalWidth, finalHeight) lineBreakMode:self.lineBreakMode];
int newLinesToPad = (finalHeight - theStringSize.height) / fontSize.height;
for(int i=0; i<newLinesToPad; i++)

[super awakeFromNib];
[self setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"KievitPro-Regular" size:12.0]];
}
-(id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame
{
id result = [super initWithFrame:frame];
if (result) {
[self setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"KievitPro-Regular" size:12.0]];
}
return result;
}
#end
I found a solution for my problem on my own:
I must remove the following lines from the overwritten UILabel:
- (void)awakeFromNib
{
[super awakeFromNib];
[self setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"KievitPro-Regular" size:12.0]];
}
-(id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame
{
id result = [super initWithFrame:frame];
if (result) {
[self setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"KievitPro-Regular" size:12.0]];
}
return result;
}
Maybe someone can explain me, why this lines change the text color of the badge value, before we can close this post?
Instead of setting the default UILabel font using a category, use the UILabel's appearance method to set the font:
[[UILabel appearance] setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"KievitPro-Regular" size:12.0]];
When I tested this the text for the badge appeared as the normal white color.
I have UIScrollView that contains images from the server.
I should put Activity Indicator while the image is currently loading.
UIScrollView contains dynamic number of images from the server.
May I know how can I add activity indicators on each page while the image is loading and remove once image is loaded.
Here's my code to retrieve images:
NSDictionary *items = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:dictInfo forKey:#"images"];
imageList = [items objectForKey:#"images"];
NSArray *img = [imageList objectForKey:#"list"];
NSInteger imgCount = [img count];
buttonArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
for (int i=0; i<imgCount; i++) {
NSDictionary *imgDict = [img objectAtIndex:i];
// REQUEST FOR IMAGES
NSString *imgPath = [imgDict objectForKey:#"image_slot"];
NSString *imgURL = imgPath;
__block ASIHTTPRequest *requestImage = [ASIHTTPRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:imgURL]];
[requestImage setCompletionBlock:^{
imgView = [UIImage imageWithData:[requestImage responseData]];
if (imgURL.length) {
[pendingRequests removeObjectForKey:imgURL];
}
scrollView.userInteractionEnabled = YES;
scrollView.exclusiveTouch = YES;
scrollView.canCancelContentTouches = YES;
scrollView.delaysContentTouches = YES;
scrollView.bounces = NO;
CGRect frame;
frame.origin.x = self.scrollView.frame.size.width * i;
frame.origin.y = 0;
frame.size = self.scrollView.frame.size;
SWTUIButton *imgBtn = [[SWTUIButton alloc] initWithFrame:frame];
imgBtn.url = [requestImage.userInfo objectForKey:#"rURL"];
[imgBtn setImage:imgView forState:UIControlStateNormal];
imgBtn.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
[imgBtn addTarget:self action:#selector(buttonpushed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[scrollView addSubview:imgBtn];
[buttonArray addObject:imgBtn];
[imgBtn release];
self.scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(self.scrollView.frame.size.width * img.count, self.scrollView.frame.size.height);
}];
I highly suggest you use NINetworkImageView from https://github.com/jverkoey/nimbus project.
It's very light and useful.
It has a delegate method to let you know when an image is loaded.
What you basically need to do is:
1. create an NINetworkImageView for each page, just like you do with UIImageView, and call set
NINetworkImageView* networkImageView = [[[NINetworkImageView alloc] initWithImage:initialImage]
autorelease];
networkImageView.delegate = self;
networkImageView.contentMode = UIViewContentModeCenter;
[networkImageView setPathToNetworkImage:
#"http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2484/3929945380_deef6f4962_z.jpg"
forDisplaySize: CGSizeMake(kImageDimensions, kImageDimensions)];
https://github.com/jverkoey/nimbus/tree/master/examples/photos/NetworkPhotoAlbums
the add the indicator to the networkImageView as a subview.
implement the delegate as follows:
-(void)networkImageView:(NINetworkImageView *)imageView didLoadImage:(UIImage *)image {
[imageView removeAllSubviews];
}
the end result would be a much smaller code for doing the same thing.
