MS Search Server Express Throws an Exception - search-server

I installed MS Search Server Express and crawl some Ektron documents and those documents are successfully indexed.
Next when I tried to search I got the following error.
I also installed some hot-fixes as suggested by several websites. However, this error still throws, when I try to search my documents.
Do you have any idea?

I had this happen and ended up going to the search manager site - something like yourhost:1234 or some other port. Once there, you navigate to the search service configuration screen and you'll notice the database connections, etc at the bottom. An Ektron support person had me create a new configuration and delete the old one. This actually drops the tables in SQLServer and creates new tables with long numbers at the end of the table names. After doing this, it all started working again. You can always drop your Sharepoint* tables, register your site again and do a full crawl to start over.

How to delete a corrupt database from azure sql

I have tried to delete a SQL database from the azure portal. It looks like it has failed part way though. The database doesn't show up under the list of SQL servers in the Azure portal. However if I login to the server through SSMS it is still there. I now can't delete the database or create a new one with that name.
I've tried deleting the database with a query and get an error saying the database doesn't exits. If I try to create it either from the Azure portal or SSMS it gets an error saying it already exists.
I had a similar problem once, with SSL settings, where it would return that it is linked to the app even tho it wasn't, hence I was not able to delete it. After a couple of weeks of back and forward with the support, we removed it through azure resource explorer.
How to:
Once you are logged in, set read/write
In serach box find your resource
Click actions (POST/DELETE) // these should be available now since you have set read/write
Click Delete
Hopefully, this would help anyone who has any corrupted resources in Azure.

Distributing .mdf files to field sites

I am trying to find the best procedure to get data from our SQL server at headquarters to update apps running on local machines in various locations not connected to our network. Our current data and application is in Foxpro where you simply copied the data file, so I am not very familiar with using SQL databases.
The field app uses localdb and users don't save anything to the database. When the app opens it checks a web site to for updates. I tried detaching our HQ .mdf and .ldf, downloading it and overwriting it on the local machine, but localdb would not attach to the new file (same name). I thought localdb closes and detaches when the application closes , but maybe I am wrong. I also wonder if I need the log file since no changes are made and I dont need to rollback anything. I have searched for a good article on this topic but haven't found anything. This must be a fairly common scenario in many companies.
You want to look into using replication, probably snapshot replication. This allows you to distribute on whatever schedule is applicable to send one or more tables, or other objects, to off site sql server instances. You can use Http to send data.

SSRS 2012 - uninitialized server

I have been experiencing random connection/handshake problems w/ a hyper server VM running SQL and SSRS
So the network guys suggested building a new VM and trying it there. (Have you tried rebooting? )
I asked that they rename the old server (--> SQLBKUP) and name the new server to the current name (--> SQL) so all my connection strings will continue to work.
Regardless the wisdom of that approach, that is all now done.
All of our applications work. (and the weird handshake issue is gone,joy)
I have reinstalled SSRS and I thought I was home free.
We backed up and restored the ReportServer and ReportServerTemp databases to the new server.
If i try to point to these databases , I keep getting this error
The report server installation is not initialized. (rsReportServerNotActivated) Get Online Help
Any all information I can find about this for 2012 says that the initialization happens automatically when you configure a database.
I tried creating a new database, and presto, everything works fine.
I reconfigured SSRS to point at the old database and I again get the rsReportServerNotActivated error.
I also 'powered down' SQLBKUP in case it was causing some confusion, I cant imagine what that might be, but why not... This did NOT correct the problem.
Any ideas on why the databases that were working on 1 server wont work on the new one?

neither article mentions cleaning up any server names, ip addresses, etc. that might be in a config table. Inspecting the tables in SSMS, I dont see any tables that look like they might need such attention.
I can always recreate the environment, I am aout to that point, at least I will know what I have in front of me. If anyone has any suggestions, i would appreciate it, Im sure I will be up for a while... :-)

You are getting that error because you haven't moved the old encryption keys to the new server. SSRS uses encryption to secure credentials and connection information. You'll need to get the encryption keys from the old server and restore them to the new one OR if you don't have the keys anymore you can create new ones but you'll need to setup your connection information again.
First backup your old encryption keys:
Start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, and
then connect to the report server instance you want to configure.
Click Encryption Keys, and then click Back Up.
Type a strong password.
Specify a file to contain the stored key. Reporting Services appends a
.snk file extension to the file. Consider storing the file on a disk
separate from the report server.
Click OK.
Then restore the keys to the new server:
Start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, and then connect to the report server instance you want to configure.
On the Encryption Keys page, click Restore.
Select the .snk file that contains the back up copy.
Type the password that unlocks the file.
Click OK.
You can also use the rskeymgmt utility, see the MSDN article: Back Up and Restore Reporting Services Encryption Keys.
If you don't have access to the older server you'll need to delete and recreate the encryption keys. Once you delete the keys the server will automatically re-initialize itself and you'll need to re-enter all of the lost encrypted information.
The following things will occur when you delete the encryption keys:
Connection strings in shared data sources are deleted. Users who run reports get the error "The ConnectionString property has not
been initialized." Stored credentials are deleted. Reports and
shared data sources are reconfigured to use prompted credentials.
Reports that are based on models (and require shared data sources configured with stored or no credentials) will not run.
Subscriptions are deactivated.
Steps to delete the keys:
Start the Reporting Services Configuration tool, and then connect to
the report server instance you want to configure.
Click Encryption Keys, and then click Delete. Click OK.
Restart the Report Server Windows service. For a scale-out
deployment, do this on all report server instances.

How to see Tableau Custom SQL on server without downloading workbook?

Oftentimes I need to troubleshoot a workbook that another person at my company has created and published to our server. To troubleshoot, I need to see their connection details, specifically their Custom SQL, to understand what data they are using in their extract.
Is there any way to view this connection info (specifically their SQL code) when viewing the published workbook on the server (web) version?
I am an admin and I am able to download their workbook to my desktop version of tableau, then open it, then reconnect to the data, then look through the data connections they created, to see their SQL. But it's a really cumbersome process.
All I'm looking to do is, when looking at a published workbook, see the data connection details so that I can see the Custom SQL, without going through the process of downloading I described above.
You can get some details on the SQL statement by creating a performance recording.
From the Tableau Server Admin Guide:
Enable Performance Recordings:
Choose the Admin button in Tableau Server.
Choose Site.
Select a site.
Choose Edit.
In the Edit Site dialog box, select Allow Performance Recording.
Choose OK.
You start performance recording for a specific view by adding ?:record_performance=yes to
the url. For example:
http://server.site.com/views/Variety/BaseballStatistics?:record_performance=yes
Now, notice a new link at the top of your view called "Show Performance Recording".
Click this to open the generated performance workbook dashboard. Click on the bar chart and observe the SQL appear at the bottom of the view. Note, the SQL text will truncate after about 250 characters.
The admin guide suggests viewing the "Tableau Log" to find the full SQL statement.. I have looked at all the server side logs in C:\ProgramData\Tableau\Tableau Server\data\tabsvc\logs but cannot locate the SQL. (please reply if you know where to find this?)
You can also run a database trace to see the SQL that the database sees. For example, for MS SQL Server, run the Profiler tool, setup a default trace, and filter on "Application Name" = "Tableau Protocol Server 8.0" or similar.
I have version 8.1 and this is how I got around this problem. Tableau shows a 'Custom SQL Warning' when you open a workbook that contains the custom SQL. You can copy all the text in this message by simply Ctrl + C as this is any other Windows warning message. And then paste it your editor of choice to analyze it.
I do not know if this works on earlier versions.
I thought you could do this easily, and originally answered that you could, but I didn't pay close attention to your question. You can change some things about data connections without editing the workbook, including the ip address or name of the database server, but there doesn't appear to be a simple way to access custom sql without downloading the workbook.
Go to the Administrator page and select Data Connections.
You can enter some search criteria to filter the list of data connections shown (or not).
Find the workbook in question by scanning the second column -- you can sort the column if that helps.
Then select the corresponding data connection in the 4th column to see the details of the connection.
If it makes sense for the connection, you can also modify the connection directly at the server. This is really useful if you, say, need to move your enterprise database to a new IP address or change a database password, without downloading, modifying and republishing alot of workbooks.
An even better practice is to start using shared data connections hosted on Tableau server instead of having each workbook have its own local copy of connection and related info.

Umbraco contour on azure fails when form is submitted

I have installed my Umbraco site on Azure and this is working beautifully. I installed Contour on my Umbrcaco system which I did manually in order to successfully install the database. The whole form admin seems fine and the form I have created displays fine until I submit it, I get the following error:
Tables without a clustered index are not supported in this version of
SQL Server. Please create a clustered index and try again.
I have searched high and low and can't find a solution to this problem. Can anyone help?
Unfortunately... this is, indeed, a limitation of SQL-Azure. You'll need to do what it says and create a clustered index on each table.
