No Route Matches error for defined route - ruby-on-rails-3

I'm having an issue with Rails, I get the following error:
No route matches {:action=>"publish", :controller=>"businesses"}
The offending code:
<div id="searchDatesDiv" style="margin: 0 auto;">
<%= form_tag(publish_business_path, :method => :post) do %>
<%= submit_tag("Publish") %>
<% end %>
</div>
routes.rb:
resources :businesses do
member do
post 'publish'
end
end
rake routes:
registration GET /registrations/:id(.:format) registrations#show
publish_business POST /businesses/:id/publish(.:format) businesses#publish
businesses GET /businesses(.:format) businesses#index
POST /businesses(.:format) businesses#create
I can see the path defined in rake routes. Why am I getting this error? The form is also a POST method. Any help would be great! I've tried looking at similar questions on SO but haven't found one that works in my case :(.

Your business publish path requires an id parameter that you are not giving it. Pass the business object to the path helper thusly:
<%= form_tag(publish_business_path(#business), :method => :post) do %>

Rails 3 Search Action Redirects To Show?

I've ran into a weird problem in Rails. When I try and submit a search query with the following form on my Uploads controller:
<%= form_tag ({:controller => "uploads", :action => 'find_uploads'}), :method => "get" do %>
<%=h text_field_tag :search, params[:search], :id => 'search_field' %>
<br />
<%= submit_tag "Search", :style=>"display:inline;" %>
<% end %>
I get redirected to the following url and error page:
/uploads/find_uploads?utf8=✓&search=bot&commit=Search
ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound in UploadsController#show
Couldn't find Upload with id=0
My find_uploads route: get 'uploads/find_uploads' => "uploads#find_uploads"
And when I did I rake routes this is what I got:
uploads_find_uploads GET /uploads/find_uploads(.:format) {:controller=>"uploads", :action=>"find_uploads"}
Everything seems to be in order... not sure why it's not working out as expected. For debugging purposes I dropped breakpoints in both my find_uploads and show actions and neither of them were reached so this error message must be lying to me as the UploadsController show action is never called!
This form is being rendered on my index page if it counts for anything.
I think it's taking find_uploads for an id.
Declare your routes like that:
resources :uploads do
collection do
get :find_uploads
end
end
ps: currently, when you do rake routes, /uploads/find_uploads is after /uploads/:id right?

rails routes - Resource not appending _path

I am attempting to use resources to auto generate routes for my resource. The namespace is admin and the resource is author. The following code seems to work for most instances.
namespace :admin do
resources :author
end
When I run
rake routes
I get the following
admin_author_index GET /admin/author(.:format) admin/author#index
POST /admin/author(.:format) admin/author#create
new_admin_author GET /admin/author/new(.:format) admin/author#new
edit_admin_author GET /admin/author/:id/edit(.:format) admin/author#edit
admin_author GET /admin/author/:id(.:format) admin/author#show
PUT /admin/author/:id(.:format) admin/author#update
DELETE /admin/author/:id(.:format) admin/author#destroy
From what I can tell I am expecting the named paths to have a
_path
at the end. I am rather green at this. I have searched and searched but I could just be using the wrong terms to find the answer. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
-edit- I should add that
<%= form_for [:admin, #author] do |f| %>
<%= f.label :first_name %>
<%= f.text_field :first_name %>
<%= f.label :last_name %>
<%= f.text_field :last_name %>
<%= f.submit %>
<% end %>
Gives me errors saying it can not find admin_author_path
You can append either _path or _url to these. Basically everything looks good.
So for example
admin_author_index GET /admin/author(.:format) admin/author#index
the helper method can be admin_author_index_path or admin_author_index_url. These helpers can be used in controllers and views to point to a controller/action or url. Read this link http://guides.rubyonrails.org/routing.html to understand more.
No. The route name does not have the _path suffix.
Refer to Rails routing from inside in for more information. It explains routing in great detail.

Rendered partial not receiving params

I'm trying to implement an 'edit' link that brings up a form to change a displayed attribute on a page.
My layout has:
<div id="company_info">
<%= yield :company_info %>
</div>
<div id="edit_company_info">
</div>
My view has:
<%= content_for :company_info do %>
<%= render 'company_info' %>
<%= link_to "Edit", 'company_info_form', :class => 'btn btn-mini', :method => :get, :remote => true %>
My controller has:
def company_info_form
#company = Company.get(params[:id])
respond_to do |format|
format.js
end
end
My company_info_form.js.erb file has:
$('#edit_company_info').html("<%= escape_javascript(render "company_info_form") %>");
Upon clicking the link, my server shows:
Started GET "/companies/company_info_form" for 127.0.0.1 at 2012-03-12 20:19:13 -0700
Processing by CompaniesController#show as JS
Parameters: {"id"=>"company_info_form"}
Completed 500 Internal Server Error in 1ms
RuntimeError (Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id):
app/controllers/companies_controller.rb:9:in `show'
So I think this is a routing issue-- but I have no idea how to fix it. How do I get the company_id param that is on my current page to be recognized by the partial I'm loading as well?
I'm on /companies/1, but the link is to companies/company_info_form, losing the "company_id = 1" param.
Yes, the issue is with your routes and with your link as you have pointed out.
The first issue can be ascertained as it says Processing by CompaniesController#show as JS. So, its actually going to companies#show where it tries to find a company based on id. But, since no correct id is passed, it errors out.
The second issue is because your link is to companies/company_info_form, as you pointed out, since you have used 'company_info_form' as the path in your link for edit. And you haven't passed current company to the link either.
Since you haven't posted your routes file, which you should have, since you have identified a potential problem with routes , I'll present my own.
In your routes :
resources :companies do
member do
get 'company_info_form'
end
end
That will provide you with
company_info_form_company GET /companies/:id/company_info_form(.:format) companies#company_info_form
Then you can provide the link as :
<%= link_to "Edit", company_info_form_company_path(#company) %>

Ruby on Rails: Custom Actions (Follow up)

This question is a follow up to this previous question: Ruby on Rails: Custom actions
As a follow up, what would be the syntax to use a custom action in a form_for? For my app, I have a partial called _invite_form.html.erb, and set the form to have a :url specification that I thought would link the form to the invite action on the Users controller:
<div id = "invite_form">
<h1>Invite</h1>
<%= form_for(invited, :url => invite_user_path) do |f| %>
<div class="field">
<%= f.text_field :email, :class => "inputform round", :placeholder => "email" %>
</div>
<div class="actions">
<%= f.submit "Invite", :class => "submit_button round" %>
</div>
<% end %>
</div>
This partial is called on certain pages, and this error is given:
"No route matches {:action=>"invite", :controller=>"users"}"
In my routes.rb file I have included the appropriate lines:
resources :users do
member do
get :invite
post :invite
end
end
Why is it that the route doesn't work? How do I change these files to make the form use the action "Invite" on the Users controller?
** Forgot to mention earlier: I defined invited in the Users helper: users_helper.rb:
module UsersHelper
def invited
#invited = User.new(params[:user])
end
end
As you don't have a persistent User just yet, make this a collection operation by:
Changing invite_user_path to invite_users_path in your controller
Changing member do to collection do in your routes
invite_user_path expects a user as an argument. Try invite_user_path(invited). You will also need to save the user before you can compute a path to it.
To experiment, go into rails console and see the difference between the following:
app.invite_user_path
app.invite_user_path(User.first)
app.invite_user_path(User.new)

Syntax for link_to with block in rails3 with :remote=>true and including :class and :id

For the love of god, I've been banging my head on this for hours. Using rails3 rc, 1.9.2.
I'm trying to create a link_to that submits an ajax request, with parameters, a class and id, and needs a block so I can insert a span tag around the name. Documentation is of absolutely zero help, as are numerous google searches. Here's what I've got so far:
<%= link_to(
:url=>{
:controller => 'themes', :action => 'remove_tag',
:entity_id => entity_id, :theme_id => theme_id,
:entity => entity, :element_id => element_id, :parent_id=>parent_id
},
:remote => true,
:id => "theme-tag-#{entity}-#{entity_id}",
:class => "tag") do %>
<span class='subtract'><%= tag %></span>
<% end %>
The generated url looks like this:
<a href="/explore/index/theme-tag-user-3?url[controller]=themes&url[action]=remove_tag&url[entity_id]=3&url[theme_id]=16&url[entity]=user&url[element_id]=filter-contributor-3&url[parent_id]=filter-contributors&remote=true&class=tag">
Test descriptor
I can't indicate properly that the text "Test descriptor" is actually properly included within the span; code formatting is failing a little here, however, the href is wrong, there's no class or id, and downhill it continues to roll
If I didn't need the block, I could just add the name and not have to specify :url=>{...} (leaving if off throws an exception with the block, go figure) and then follow that with :remote=>true, :id=>"whatever", :class=>"blah" and it works. What am I doing wrong? Because I'm new to rails in general, I'd also like to understand why this syntax must differ so much? I mean really, thank god you don't have to write a lot of links like this in a web app... ;-)
Thanks in advance
turns out you have to do url_for(...) instead of :url=>{...} and it all worked as expected.
Just putting wkhatch's comment here so it's nicely formatted.
<%= link_to(
url_for(:controller=>'themes',
:action=>'remove_tag',
:entity_id=>entity_id,
:theme_id=>theme_id,
:entity=>entity,
:element_id=>element_id,
:parent_id=>parent_id),
:remote=>true,
:id=>"theme-tag-#{entity}-#{entity_id}") do %>
<span class='subtract'></span><%= tag %>
<% end %>
