How to setup multiple uitableview and uiview in one viewcontroller - objective-c

I am working on setting a uivewcontroller with 4 buttons which when i click will change the view underneath to different view. It could be either uitableview or just regular uiview with some text. I saw an answer here that i liked but i can't find it anymore. There is a way to split the views into different files so it will be more organized. I am using storyboards should i just bring 4 views on top of each other and then hide 3 of them? Also i am thinking to have a separate file for each so i can set them in the main view controller.
Also as far delegation. Do i need to set uitableview this way?
#interface PeopleTableView : UITableView <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource>
and then create a separate protocol so that the mainviewcontroller can send the data to the peopletableview
Thanks!

yes exactly you can follow the general way to create you tableviews or so on , but in the cases like you there is a thing called tag is used. i'm sure you know.
so let's say for the tableviews , when you are in the row count , or setting the titles , you can firstly check the tableview's tag to learn which one is the enabled one.
hope this helps..

How to add UITableView to one of several subviews using storyboard

I have one UIViewController with two UIViews on it. In the Navigation bar, when one button is pushed one of the UIViews is displayed and when the other button is pushed the other UIView is displayed. I want to put a UITableView on one of the views. However, the UITableView requires the UIViewController to use the UITableViewDelegate and UITableViewDataSource. Having implemented this for my UIView (subview) containing the UTTableView, when I click on the button for the other view, which does not contain a table, I get errors and the application croaks.
I am assuming (possibly incorrectly) that my issue is that I am trying to use the same UIViewController for both subviews, but only one contains a table.
Question 1) Is it possible to do what I described above? Meaning, if I had a problem then something was not connected up correctly.
So, I went down a path of creating two separate UIViewControllers; one for each view. Not sure this is the smart approach. Now I am just looking for advice on the best way to do this. Thank you in advance for your help.
To be more clear about what I am trying to do. I want the blue view to be put where the pink view is when the first button on the bar is clicked and I want the yellow view to be put where the pink view is when the second button is clicked. Essentially the pink view will never be displayed and may not even need to be on the UtilityViewController.
Having each as a UIViewController (or a subclass thereof) is the way to go about what you are trying to do. The UITabBarController does this already: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/uikit/reference/UITabBarController_Class/Reference/Reference.html

Change a UIViewController to a UITableViewController inside a storyboard?

I've made a view in my storyboard which I've now decided I'd rather display its data via static table cells.
I can't use static table views in a UIViewController (Static table views are only valid when embedded in UITableViewController instances). So, I need to convert my existing UIViewController to a UITableViewController somehow. I've changed the .h file's parent, but that hasn't done it.
Is there another way to get this going? I'd really rather not have to make a new VC in the storyboard and move everything over, it's a big hassle.
I'll add to this, since the question is about how to change a UIViewController into a UITableViewController, and given that this question is over a year old and the original answer, while valid and may or may not have been the only solution at the time, doesn't actually answer the question and is not the only solution.
It IS possible to do this, you just have to set up the table view delegate and datasource outlets in IB, and manually edit the storyboard XML, which sounds scary but is actually very easy.
First, change your class's parent to be a UITableViewController. UITableViewController already adopts the UITableViewDatasource and UITableViewDelegate protocols, so if your class does too you can remove them:
#implementation MyTableViewController : UITableViewController
...
#end
Next, create new referencing outlets on your UITableView for its dataSource and delegate. The easiest way to do this is to control-drag from the UITableView to itself. The popup will give you the dataSource and delegate options.
Lastly, you need to change the storyboard XML. The storyboard file can get pretty big pretty fast. The easiest way to find the scene you are looking for is by setting Storyboard Identifier in the Identity Inspector. To view the XML directly, right click on the storyboard file in the project navigator and select "Open As -> Source Code". Now just search for whatever you set the reuse identifier to earlier. You'll see something similar to this:
<!-- My Table View Controller -->
<scene sceneID="EuE-XX-cCb">
<objects>
<viewController storyboardIdentifier="MY_TABLE_VIEW_IDENTIFIER" ... >
// Lots of other stuff
</viewController>
</objects>
</scene>
All you need to do is change the opening and closing view controller tags
<viewController>
</viewController>
to be tableViewController instead
<tableViewController>
</tableViewController>
That's it! No need to create a new UITableViewController scene or embed a UITableViewController in a container view.
EDIT:
I should also add that the UITableView MUST be the root view. It cannot be embedded inside another UIView.
If you want your static cell table view not to take up the entire screen, then using a container view is the easiest way to go. Start with a regular UIViewController and drag a container view (next to normal UIView in the object list) into its view. Resize it however you want -- the storyboard will automatically provide a view controller connected to this container view with an embed segue. Delete that controller, drag out a table view controller and right-drag from the container view to this table view controller to make a new embed segue. This table view controller can be accessed from the UIViewController with its childViewControllers property (and conversely, you can access the UIViewController from the table view controller with parentViewController if you need to).
What I did, is creating a UITableViewController in IB, open the Storyboard with a text editor, and copy all the nodes inside from the UIViewController to the UITableViewController.
I think that with this way there's less risk of deleting something important.
Before copying the sections objects, make sure that both tableviews (UIViewController and UITableViewController) have the same properties set like: static or dynamic cells, style (plain or grouped), etc.

Can I use UITabBarController as a simple viewController switcher?

I'm creating an iPad app based on a UINavigationController (with the bar hidden) so I can push and pop other viewControllers for navigation around the app. However, I am now wanting to add a section in which there are two viewControllers that I want to be able to switch between, so in other words they are side-by-side, rather than hierarchical.
Is it okay to use a UITabBarController for this? I am aware that on the iPhone it is recommended they are used only at the root level of the app, but since this is an iPad app I wondered if I could use it? Also, I guess I need to create an empty viewController, create a UITabBarController within it and set the delegate to it, then add the two viewControllers to it... So in effect I will have a viewController within another viewController, and when I have done that in the past the results have been very flaky.
Can I do it this way? The only other way I can think of doing it is to have two plan UIViews within a UIViewController, but that also means I shouldn't really put any business logic in them (bad MVC!), and not being able to will be a right pain in the a**.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

EDIT: I also need to be able to swipe-animate between the two VCs within the TabBarController, AND have a menubar over the top which doesn't animate... Can I do this?
Sure.
I do this kind of thing all over the place in an app I'm working on. I actually have several different types of "toolbars" that can be optionally shown at different times.
What I do is create a "parent" member in my toolbar's class - and when a button is pressed, I have the toolbar call a method in the parent class to do whatever needs to be done - (i.e. display another view).
This avoids the whole mess of creating a view inside another view (or viewcontroller inside another viewcontroller - or whatever) - the toolbar can take the button hits, but all the views are opened by the root view/controller.
Hope this helps/makes sense!

can i create a UIViewController comprised of UITableView and mixing with other UIKits

please patient with my poor english.
I'd bad concept of UIView, UIViewController, UITableView, UITableViewController..
Now I'd created a NavigationController and ViewController with SegmentedControl and I don't know how to add a custom TableView in the ViewController. All the examples I've seen are subclassing a UITableViewController as it is a whole table without other control in between.
Can anyone show me some guideline to get to create a Form's like apps?
Thank you very much.
I am answering my own answer.
UITableView has two properties call headerView and footerView
these two view are able to put in any custom view to display your custom component on the top and foot of the table.

Is there any way to place two UISearchBar in UITableView?

I have a UITableView with customized UITableViewCells, now i have already placed one UISearchBar to find one of the data in UITableViewCell and it is working fine.
Now i want to do search operation for the other data which is placed in UITableViewCell, so is there a way to place another UISearchBar programmatically?
Yes. It's totally flexible. You just need to create the cell and you can control the placement using the UITableViewDataSource/Delegate methods.
