I had been working on Oracle long time back and has exposure to SQL. Now I need to brush up my SQL skills for a project on SQL Server 2008. Could you please recommend a good resource (online/book)?
The "books online" help isn't too bad for SQL2008 i.e. usually several examples, shows the syntax clearly. You can download it separately.
Here are three great books, if you could buy only one and wanted a reference I'd recommend the first
SQL Server 2008 Internals

2008: T-SQL Programming

Migrate 25 stored procedures on the source database from SQL server to Oracle database, Is it possible any script will do this or Manual work is required
Manual work is certainly required. The databases don't support the same procedural languages so you're going to have to rewrite them.
SQL Servers Transact-SQL is a different language than Oracle's PL/SQL

We are seeking a freeware or opensource Visual SQL Builder for Delphi 2010 and Unidac
We currently allow our clients to perform SQL against our application's database using a standard Memo field and peform button. We would like to enhance this functionality.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
OpenQueryBuilder is the only one I know of. It's not really the best architecture and the license is a bit unclear. The original developer was a Borland employee, I don't recall the name but when I tried to track him down a few years ago to clarify the license he seemed to have been lost in time and space.

I wish to refine my skills on t-sql (remote procedure calls etc) and making queries on DB's. I have a macbook and would like to know is there any software i can use to accomplish this? Ideally i would not like to install any software on this computer at all but if i have no choice then so be it.
I highly recommend SQL Fiddle. You can create schemas on many types of DB (different versions of SQL Server, MySql, Oracle etc.), practice writing queries, and even send the link to people so they can practice on the same schema/example data as you.
Here is a place where you can practice making queries without installing software.

Is SQL Server 2000 Free? I mean, can I use it for commercial use like SQL Server 2005 Express Edition?
No, it isn't. You need to purchase licenses if you want to develop and deploy using it.
There are no Express versions of SQL Server 2000 either.
There are Express editions of SQL Server 2005 and 2008/R2 - these are free.
No it is not free, I'm not sure you can use express edidtion for commercial use can you?
have you considered an open source database like MySQL?

I bought usage rights to a confederate soldiers database which is in sql, I bought it to intergrate with my wordpress genealogy blog, and I need to know if there is any way to do this, the place where I purchased will not give my money back, and are not very helpful as far as figuring this out.
thanks,
r. summers
When you say it's "in sql", what exactly do you mean?
Do you mean that it's a Microsoft SQL Server database file (.mdf or .sdf file extension)?
Do you mean that it's a SQL script that generates the database (something like a CREATE DATABASE command followed by one or more CREATE TABLE commands followed by a bunch of INSERT commands)?
Do you mean something entirely different?
