How I can make apache server public? I want to everyone access my web site on my pc via browser.

You have 2 ways, you can buy a domain and a static IP address for your computer (usually through the service provider) and configure your router and FW to allow access to the machine for port 80.
The other way is to use some sort of dynamic dns service like DynDNS to be able to bind a DNS to a dynamic IP address (you will need to run a daemon to update the account once in a while because your IP may change). The FW and router rules are still needed in this case as well.
After you do one of the these steps everyone should be able to access your apache server on your computer as long as it's on.

I am new website servers and hosting and just after some help clearing some stuff up.
Firstly if I use a website server on my computer ie. IIS is that the same as using a web host such as host puppa? and if so does that mean I don't need to use a web hosting company?
Secondly what hosting/ server do i need to use to run SQL and MySQL in my website?
Is there any good tutorials that run through all of this stuff for beginners as I am quite confused?
IIS is a web server such as apache or nginx. It's a Microsoft product and supports ASP.NET pages.
You can use it instead of a web host, but you have to make sure that your computer is reachable from the internet if you want global access. There is also some setting for what interface and port you want IIS to listen on, that should be set to your external IP address and port 80 for HTTP.
If you are behind a router with NAT, you have to use port forwarding to redirect port 80 requests to the router into your IIS.
As SQL server you can use Microsoft SQL Express or MySQL for example.
Personally, I use WAMP on Windows machines, which gives me everything I need: Apache, MySQL and PHP.

Edit 1: If your ISP gives you dynamic IP addresses (which is the common) you have to use some kind of dynamic DNS updating, you IP address might change.
Also, of course, if you shut your PC down, the site goes down as well.

How can I access the web application from a remote location over internet?
I do not have static IP.

Some more steps may have it depends on your LAN Router and firewall configuration.Use http://ifconfig.me/ to get your public ip.
Access from outside your machine should be configured by default. You may check if it is so in admin console, at Configurations->server-config->Network config->Listenters. There should be one listening on the desired port (like 8080) and be bound to 0.0.0.0 address.
To easily access something behind a dynamic ip you need something like http://www.noip.com/ or http://www.dnsomatic.com/ (I took these from my router's control panel)
I did this recently,
first you need to use port forwarding on your router, access it by typing your default gateway path, mine was 192.168.0.1 then go to "advanced settings -> Port forwarding". Simply enter the details that are asked for, I set mine to HTTP using port 8080, yours might be different. Protocol is TCP. The IP address it asks for is your local address.
For quick testing you can disable the firewall on your machine and then you can search on google for your Public IP address by typing "what is my IP".
Then type your ip into the browser and the port number "ipAddress:portNumber"
You should see the glassfish welcome screen if it is successful.
After that you might want to enable your firewall again but then you have to add an inbound rules to allow the port to be used:

Then you still have one last step to perform, allowing glassfish to access the resources on your machine: Adding glassfish to allowed programs
Follow the instructions on adding java.exe only.
I can point a url to a directory in my computer by setting /etc/host and /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf files. For instance, when i type sample-app.com in my computer, website under /Users/azad/works/sample-app.com folder is running.
When someone type sample-app.com in another computer in same local network i want to display the same website located on my computer. Is this possible?
By the way, i don't have access to any computer in the local network and i can't do any configuration.

If you want to accomplish this on windows, use the hosts file on the computers you want to point at that sample-app.com URL mapping your IP address to that URL in all the computers you want that to work on. Then make sure your HTTP server is configured to serve that website under that host name for port 80.
Since you aren't able to configure the local network, the best way to handle this situation is to configure a host name with the website domain's DNS server, such as dev.sample-app.com, which points to the local IP address (seeing as how its on the local network) of the computer hosting the website. This will then allow other computers on the local network to enter this host name to access the webiste.
If you had control of the local network's DNS server or control of the proxy (if they have a proxy), there would, of course, be other options.

Since you mentioned in your comment that you have control over the DNS server, here is how you could accomplish your goal via the DNS server. First, add a forward lookup zone for sample-app.com to the DNS server. Second, configure the default host for the zone to point to the computer serving up the website content. Now the client computers will resolve the local IP when the user enters sample-app.com into their web browsers. If you need to continue to have access to other hosts on sample-app.com, you might want to try asking about it on serverfault.

When hosting a website from a local PC behind a router you need to be careful to use the public IP that your service provider has given you. Beware this is often not a static address and may change frequently. To address this you can use some type of DynDNS service if your router supports it.
Second, you will need to add a rule in your router's firewall to allow the traffic from the public internet to reach the computer behind the router. This can be done either with a DMZ (less secure) or a port forwarding.
When you are trying to access the web page, type in the local ip of the computer you have setup the server on. This should take you to the apache server. You are likely just typing in the wrong IP. Try something like http://127.0.0.1/ (127.0.0.1 is the same as localhost) to make sure you get the apache server from the computer that is running the server.
I have a server in at a hoster (which has a static IP) and want to run a server at home too and don't want to buy the dyndns package from dyndns.com
I would either like to find a program that does this without costing money and using my own server and domain so I can have myclient.domain.com or I would like to write this myself. Would I be able to do that with a custom apache conf?

I use zoneedit.com for my DNS servers, and they have a free dynamic service that works fine for my home box. (On the other hand, my home box changes IP about twice a year, so it's not like I stress it.)
On my home box, I have a script that polls a tiny little cgi on my colo box to return what my current IP is (because I can't get it from the router), and if it's changed, it does a "curl" to update my zoneedit settings. When I get home, I'll try to remember to post the script.
Per your revisions: Ah, then you can theoretically do that, yes. (As noted elsewhere, apache.conf is irrelevant.) Your hosted server needs to be the nameserver of record for your dynamic DNS; you should probably use a subdomain. This would be a record in your main domain's zone file of IN NS server.ip.number.here. Then you configure a DNS server on your hosted server for the dynamic namespace; you'll have to get deep into the configuration to set up the records so that they advise client nameservers not to cache them, or to cache them only very briefly. Then you write some sort of systemry where the home machine, when a connection is established, talks to the hosted server and tells it to change the DNS for the dynamic hostname to point to its currently assigned IP.
You cannot do it with a custom Apache conf. Apache handles web serving, not DNS.
Maybe I´m wrong but I think what you want is:
create a dynamic host in a free DNS service, like dyndns.org (Or you can even manager a entire domain using editdns.com which has dynamic dns also). For example: server-at-home.dyndns.org.
Create a static IP host for the desired address (ex. www2) pointing to the same IP address of the www server.
Create a virtual host in the httpd.conf in the static ip server and put a reverseproxy using the dynamic host create on item 1.
P.S.: You said that the main goal is to void to buy for this service but i use dyndns.com and i dont pay for it. And i have 4 hosts in my account.
I have a server at home with a Static IP address, and I do exactly what you are looking to do with a free dyndns account. I just have to renew it every month or two - they send me an email and I just click the link to let them know I'm still here and alive.
I am not exactly sure, but it sounds like you want to redirect to your "server" at your house from your webserver at the hosted site?
You will need to periodically send some notification to your static IP server to let it know your dynamic ip.
You can do this is some cron/scheduled job - just create a redirect html page every day and ftp it (automagically) to your static ip host.
There are probably other ways to do this. But that should work.
