I know, that similiar post was posted already (SQL query from Toplink expression), but I didnt find an answer there. I would like to get SQL query from Expression Builder expression:
I have
Expression exp = builder.get(NUMBER.getAttributeName()).equal(getNumber());
and I want to see the SELECT statement, like (Select * from table WHERE number=....)
Or is it possible to execute the expression from Expression Builder without session? (I know that when I used query.prepareCall(session, new DatabaseRow()) I can obtain statement, but I just need to avoid using session. Thank you very much.
You must have the Session (what are you going to execute it on without a Session???).
query.prepareCall(session, new DatabaseRow())
This is how you get the SQL, you need to create a ReadAllQuery with the expression to be able to get the SQL (an Expression is just a where clause).
The problem was, that i wasnt able to create session because I couldnt register my project. And that was because I miss one line of code in my Project.class
setName(APPLICATION_NAME);
After this, I was able to create session and execute query. Thank you anyway

I am currently working on a project of replacing our old access database queries, but on one of them I am not able to view the actual SQL View.
Does anyone know a way to force the view or to export it somehow?
Error causing problem:
The SQL statement could not be executed because it contains ambiguous outer joins.
Note that I can view the Design View without issue but when I right click on the tab and select SQL View is when I get the error.
I did attempt what #LeeMac mentioned below but same error occurs:
EDIT:
This question is not like Ambiguous Outer Joins?
The OP on that question can actually see and edit their SQL.
My issues is that I cannot see or edit the SQL as the SQL View wont open.
Try executing the following VBA code from the Immediate Window (accessible using Ctrl+G) in the VBA IDE (open the IDE using Alt+F11):
?CurrentDb.QueryDefs("YourQuery").SQL
Replace YourQuery with the name of your query.
This should print the SQL code which comprises your query - you can then analyse the SQL to determine the cause of the error.
It's odd this error would arise when merely viewing the SQL content of the query definition.
It makes me think that the query is perhaps referencing a crosstab subquery which is actually the cause of the error, but which needs to be evaluated in order for MS Access to determine the columns available when viewing the design of the query in question.
Try this:
hit ctrl-g, and from immediate window type in this:
saveastext acQuery,"Name of query","c:\test\mysql.txt"
Access ordinarily doesn't allow you to save invalid queries, so it's strange you somehow got into this situation in the first place.
If you can copy the query, you can easily get to the SQL by changing the query to a passthrough query, either through the GUI or through VBA:
Dim q As DAO.QueryDef
Set q = CurrentDb.QueryDefs!Query1
q.Connect = "ODBC;"
Debug.Print q.SQL
Passthrough queries are not validated, so you can freely read and write anything you want as SQL in it.
Note that this is irreversible when done through VBA. You can only change it back to a normal query once you made the SQL valid again. If you do it through the GUI, you can just not save it, though.
I had this problem and the issue was that i had a subquery that calculated fields but did not actually have a table in it. for example it would calculate first and last day of last month which is 2 calculated fields, then it was the first query in a series of queries that were built off it and the last one wouldnt resolve sql as original poster indicated also gave the ambiguous join message as well as query needs input table (which was that first subquery). i put a table with 1 record in it but didnt use the record and it worked.... so it just a needs a table in it.
To proceed with a Database validation, I am having a need of comparing a record in the DB along with a data which is dynamically generated in the previous REST response, using SoapUI.
I have already captured the property value using a Property Transfer step and stored the required value in a custom property in Test-Case successfully i.e., using property expansion, say ${TestCase#customerId}
My intention is to use that particular value stored in the custom properties to query the result I am expecting, in the JDBC Request test step.
The query which I have drafted with the parameter is as below :
Select *
From ABC.SEC_CUST
Where ABC.SEC_CUST.CUSTOMER_ID = ${TestCase#customerId}
The response I receive after executing is as below.
Error getting response; java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException : ORA-00911: Invalid character.
But, when I run the query without the parameterized value it executes perfectly. Where, I tend the conclusion as there is a syntax issue in the way I have mentioned the parameter in the query.
But, I am unable to find the correct way to mention the parameter in the query in SoapUI.
Can anyone with experience in SoapUI, please assist me on this?
That is not working because of the use of property expansion which is only known to SoapUI, but not for the SQL query.
In order to get it work for the same, you need to define the variables in the top for all the parameters that are going to be used in the sql query.
Here the screen shot which explains how to use the same:
You forgot a '#'
Select *
From ABC.SEC_CUST
Where ABC.SEC_CUST.CUSTOMER_ID = ${#TestCase#customerId}
Try this.
Select * From ABC.SEC_CUST
Where ABC.SEC_CUST.CUSTOMER_ID = :customerId
I'm looking for a way to programmatically execute arbitrary SQL commands against my DB.
(Hibernate, JPA, HSQL)
Query.createNativeQuery() doesn't work for things like CREATE TABLE.
Doing LOTS of searching, I thought I could use the Hibernate Session.doWork().
By using the deprecated Configuration.buildSesionFactory() seems to show that doWork won't work.
I get "use lacks privilege or object not found" for all the CREATE TABLE statements.
So, what other technique is there for executing arbitratry SQL statements?
There were some notes on using the underlying JDBC Statement, but I haven't figure out how to get a JDBC Connection object from Hibernate to try that.
Note that the hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto=create setting will NOT work for me, as I have ARRAY[] columns which it chokes on.
I don't think there is any problem executing a create table statement with a Hibernate native query. Just make sure to use Query.executeUpdate(), and not Query.list() or Query.uniqueResult().
If it doesn't work, please tell us what happens when you execute it, and join the full stack trace of the exception and the SQL query you're executing.
"use lacks privilege or object not found" in HSQL may mean anything, for example existence of a table with the same name. Error messages in HSQL are completely misleading. Try listing your tables using DatabaseMetadata - you have probably already created the table.
I found that Entity SQL support NEWID(), but does ObjectQuery support it as well?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb738616.aspx,
Can I write objectquery like:
context.member.orderby("NEWID()").select("it.UserID");
or something like this? or I should write in other way?
I thought if entity sql support NEWID() function, it should be accepted by ObjectQuery also. Like you can use distinct(it.UserID), or BitWiseAND(it.UserID, 1) in ObjectQuery.Where() or Select().
Many thanks.
This is a SQL Server-specific canonical function, so it should be prefixed with 'SqlServer':
context.member.orderby("SqlServer.NEWID()").select("it.UserID");
Unfortunately, this will not work either: the Where extension method needs at least one reference to the immediate input scope.
Thanks Devart for response.
Actually, I found that I can use like:
var query1 = context.member.select("it.userid, SqlServer.NEWID() as newid").orderby("it.newid");
this can make random order for result, you will find that NEWID() is in the translated sql query.
but if you want to select partially result from 'query1' result set, you cannot write:
var query2 = context.member.select("it.userid, SqlServer.NEWID() as newid").orderby("it.newid").select("it.userid");
because when you use sql profiler to watch the sql that translated pass into sql server, you will find that the 'NEWID()' disappear.
However, I think 'query2' should be make sense. But it doesn't work.
I'm connected to an OpenEdge DataServer via ODBC (not our product, we are just accessing their database, I hardly have any information and certainly no help from the other side).
Anyhow, I just need to execute a simple Select, add a couple of rows and I need the equivalent of an IsNull statement.
Basically I'd like to execute
SELECT ISNULL(NULL,'test')
This fails with a Syntax Error. I've looked around at something they misleadingly call a "documentation" but there are only references to SP_SQL_ISNULL but I can't get that to work either. I'm fit in T-SQL, so any pointers in any direction appreciated, even if it's just a RTFM with a link to TFM :)
Thanks
Thanks to Catalin and this question I got on the right track. I kept thinking I needed a OpenEdge specific function but actually I needed to use only ODBC SQL syntax.
To get what
ISNULL(col,4)
does you can use
COALESCE(col,4)
which "returns the data type of expression with the highest data type precedence. If all expressions are nonnullable, the result is typed as nonnullable."MSDN
Basically it will convert to 4 if the value is null (and therefore not convertable).
I am not 100% sure, but I think ODBC driver expects a valid SQL statement, and not an DBMS specific SQL statement, like the one you provided.
