We have a Sitefinity 3.2 site in production and the users want a whole new look and feel. Upgrading is not an option.
I have created new templates for them but they will need to go into the site and create all new pages using the new templates. This is a problem because they want the current site to remain unchanged until they are done - then they want to instantly switch over.
One problem that I see already is that pages will not show up in the menu control until they are published.
I am very new to Sitefinity. Is there a standard practice for doing this?
You don't need to re-create all of the pages to change the look and feel; simply change the template assigned.

I'd think that changing the theme of all the templates late at night should be "instantly" enough for most people. :)

I've been developing a new Vue project to control the connected devices from one point, I've been working on an admin template and it's all good but there is something that I want to learn and implement to this application.
Let's say I want to change the whole frontend template (the admin template that I'm using now) and use a new design, how can I implement the whole existing application to a new template? For example, when you start creating a Wordpress page, it gives you different templates and you choose some of them and start designing the website... Maybe after six months you want to change that design and you simply click and switch to a new template and all the existing content will be migrated to the new template. That is exactly what I want to do with Vuejs.
I have to do this project, which I prepared with the existing theme, dynamically, as if I will pass it to another theme in the future. When switching my existing project to a new theme, instead of copying all the components and their related scripts, I want to be able to switch just like in Wordpress by simply throwing the theme file into the project. How can I add this functionality to the project?
I am trying to write a Shopify application and I want to add a section to the product page when the store owner installed my app. I tried this by adding a custom script tag in the shop template and this tag will load and inject my desired HTML into the page. It's work but it needs to force the store owner to change the product page template and its not user-friendly.
I see some apps in the Shopify app store that can change the product page after you install them without needs add any part to the product page template. How they do this work? I can't find the correct way in the Shopify documents.

If you change the theme auto-magically via code, you are looking for trouble. A lot of things can go wrong - simply you cannot cater for all themes and their changes over time! So you could possibly leave a broken page after the change. The e-shop owner won't be impressed! Actually a lot of the 1* reviews of apps are for that reason!
What would happen if the eshop owner removes your app? He won't know what code to remove.
So, most apps ask the user to add the app code. They provide detailed instructions of course.
Fyi, another problematic approach is the following:
Some apps may attempt to change the DOM "on the fly", by first locating an existing DOM element (a lot of theme-specific if statements to do that with any degree of success) and, then insert the app's DOM elements.
That's very messy and problematic as well, but at least you do not risk ruining the owner's theme files. In the worst case he can uninstall your app and he 'll be ok.

Is it possible to add a new link to the main menu via the shopify API?

If you log in to your partner account and then create an App you can edit the created App and you will see all the resources at your disposal where you can add a new link.
If you notice also, using the API you can pull and rewrite any asset in a shop to contain a new link. This is discouraged as bad practice. Instead, inject a script tag that does the dirty work.
Soon as I know the API itself cannot change something inside the theme files... some APPs ask you to apply some code manually in the theme, with proper instructions... maybe this code could add the new menu or dynamically interact to get it.
I was wondering whether exists any dashlet which allows you to explore a site's document library. As far as I know doesn't exist such dashlet out of the box, there only exists the "Site Content" dashlet but it is slightly limited.
I have been searching around and "googling" and I found these useful resources that could be useful as a starting point if I had to create my own:

As a temporary solution, I'm also thinking in the possibility of taking advantage of the "Web View" dashlet, by configuring in it such URL that retrieves the documentlist region/component in the documentlibrary page. For example:, share/page/components/documentlibrary/documentlist or share/page/site/{site}/documentlibrary?region=documentlist. Maybe it is crazy or what I'm saying doesn't make any sense, but it is just an idea.
Another idea that have just came to my mind is the option of creating a custom Surf/Share page which includes the component/webscript that implements the explorer of the document library, specifically the documentlist component. Then configure the "Web View" dashlet giving the URL that points to the custom page created. Would it make sense?

You are going to see a couple of site visualization and navigation dashlets on Alfresco Visualization Tools available on https://github.com/bhagyas/alfresco-visualization-tools. The project is still at it's initial phase, but you will find interesting snippets of code used to retrieve the document library content trees within the dashlets.

Hi I've done exactly the same, it was not really needed for a Dashlet but for to embed the documentlibrary of a site in an iframe for another site.
So what I did was indeed create a new page template embedded-documentlibrary.
I've copied first the following files and renamed them:
site-data/pages/documentlibrary.xml
site-data/template-instances/documentlibrary.xml
site-webscripts/org/alfresco/documentlibrary.ftl
If you rename file 3 or put it in another folder, you need to check the paths in file 1 & 2.
So to make only the documentlibrary appear instead of everyting I just removed everything in file 3 within the <div id="alf-hd"> tag.
If you remove the tag, the document-tree will also be removed and it gave some javascript errors. This should be fixed in the latest version, but haven't tied that.
So it's extremely easy to create your own page and instead of navigating to site/documentlibrary you just navigate to site/embedded-documentlibrary or your own name you've chosen.
And yes then you'll need to use the web-view Dashlet to show it.
The only thing you need to know is, that the links open within the iframe. So if you use the web-view Dashlet, you need to open the links in a new window.
For my situation I needed an iframe, in your case you could also just let the freemarker from your Dashlet render the components needed.
There is a document-liberary-display dashlet available in the alfresco add-on list which can be used to show all the documents from document-library on site-dashlet.

I had a look at http://www.westernaustralia.com/au/Pages/Welcome_to_Western_Australia.aspx and I know it's a SharePoint site and I am wondering how it could have been made.
I am mostly interrested in the center column (What's On). Is it an announcement list with thumbnails and Find out more links are pointing to wiki pages? Could it be a custom web part or is it possible to do this sort of thing with SharePoint 2010 out of the box?

You can do this easily with a "What's New" web part. Customize your library view setting and set your webpart to use that view. Add a simple content editor at the bottom of this web part and add those other links like View All etc...
Remember that you can create your own list and make sure to index it so that it can rollback into the What's New webpart.
Looking at the emitted HTML it looks like a custom user control in the page layout to me (hell I could be wrong)
That said though it is possible to do this OOTB and I could build that functionality using the Content Query Web Part and some custom XSL
