Make variable name out of NSString - objective-c

I have got a for loop where 9 hexagons (hexagon1 through hexagon9) have to be created... But I cannot use hexString as the name of the Sprite because it is a NSString, right ? So how would I make it right ?

That would be impossible as you didn't declare the variable. A work around for this would be using an NSArray and saving your data on to the array instead of making a list of variables.

Use NSMutableDictionary.
for (int i=1;i<=hexCount;i++){
NSString *hexString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"hexagon%d",i];
CCSprite *sprite = [self doSomethingToGetSprite];
[mutableDictionary setObject:sprite forKey:hexString];
}
Later you can iterate over all the sprites in the dictionary using:
for (NSString *key in mutableDictionary) {
CCSprite *sprite = [mutableDictionary objectForKey:key];
[self doStuffWithSprite:sprite];
}
By the way, why are you overwriting hexString that you assign here:
NSString *hexString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"hexagon%d",i];
With the one here:
hexString = [self createHexagon:ccp(xVal,yVal) : i];
And that method call is an obvious syntax error with the dangling : i part there.

Why does NSMutablearray keep returning null?

I am generating a random equation say like 2*3+4..... and using DDMathparser to evaluate it. Here I have a class method which is supposed to return a random equation(stored inside a mutable array) only if it evaluates to a integer.
however it keeps returning Null and i can't figure out why. Please help me out.!

Based on your code, for this log to output The content of array is(null) means that equation is nil. Your randEquation (while not efficient) looks ok, the problem is that you haven't created the equation instance when you run the log statement.

How to view the entire content of an array in a label (xcode 4.1)

i'm programming in Obj-c with xcode4.1, i have an array with numbers in it, and i want to visualize all of them in a label...can anyone help me around this please?

You can use this
NSArray *yourArray;
NSString *createdString = [yourArray componentsJoinedByString:#" "];
myLabel.text = createdString;
As your array is combinedString,
combinedString=[[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
looks like you are providing values after this line or this is not a property (this is a local as you are releasing it later), and your code in not complete.
Anyways,
You don't need to create an empty string and then assign new object to it, need to do as :
myLabel.text=[combinedString componentsJoinedByString:#"."];
[combinedString release];

changing a string to double returning one

I have stored a value 1/129600.0 in a plist as a string.
I am able to retrieve it as a string but when i am trying to convert it as a double i am getting it as 1.0.I have also tried CFString

and in log the returned values are
1/129600.0 and 1.0
This code works fine, I tried it in xCode:

I guess 1/129600.0 is not a valid number.
Try to create an expression and create an NSNumber from it:

1/129600.0 is not a valid representation for a number in most programming languages, including ObjC. You need to parse the string and interpret it yourself.

Replacing a specified dictionary in NSMutableArray

I'm trying to replace a dictionary in a mutable array.
Steps 1 through 4 should be good, but I'm having some trouble in step 5 - 6. Can you show me what has to be done to make this function work:

Replace the line:

with this line:
if([[tempDict valueForKey:#"Name"] isEqualToString: [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", nameString]])
since you are using string comparison here.
As pointed out in the comments by Martin R, you are trying to save an int value into a int pointer variable.
int index; //instead of 'int *index;'
That change should do the trick.
It could have worked if you had written int *index; and then index = &i;, since you are saving a pointer to an integer that way. But it doesn't seem to be what you are trying to do.
The second error is due you are providing an int pointer instead of an integer to this method:
[tmpMutArr replaceObjectAtIndex:index withObject:
[NSDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary:mutDict]];
But declaring index as an integer solves both errors already.

How to convert NSNumber to NSString

So I have an NSArray "myArray" with NSNumbers and NSStrings. I need them in another UIView so i go like this:

The subjectText works.
But how can I get the NSNumbers out of it? (I actually need them as strings...)
I would convert a NSString out of a NSNumber like this:
NSString *blah = [NSNumber intValue]. But I don't know how to set it up in the code above...
Try:

You can do it with:
NSNumber *myNumber = #15;
NSString *myNumberInString = [myNumber stringValue];

The funny thing is that NSNumber converts to string automatically if it becomes a part of a string. I don't think it is documented.

In Swift you can do like this
let number : NSNumber = 95
let str : String = number.stringValue
In Swift 3.0
let number:NSNumber = 25
let strValue = String(describing: number as NSNumber)
print("As String => \(strValue)")
We can get the number value in String.
