using SharpPcap with usp 3G modem - modem

I have learned SharpPcap to capturing packet from a particular network interface. The following code is used to get all network interfaces on local machine:
foreach (PcapDevice dev in CaptureDeviceList.Instance)
Console.WriteLine(dev.ToString());
but when I plug my usp 3G modem and run the above program, the list returned does not contain a line for the usp 3G modem.
How do I apply the packet capture on this 3G modem?

EDIT: I have found one way of doing this. I would love it if someone has something better, because this does require a commercial product. CommView from Tamosoft allows you to capture Verizon Aircard packets. (Can't speak to anything else...)

They have a free version which you can use to test with (it only captures every other packet). It's about $250.

Unfortunately, modems are seen a PPP connections, which are not supported on Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 at the network adapter level. Therefore, winPCap, Wireshark, etc, will not see the traffic.

connecting 2 Kinect sensors to my notebook

I am trying to connect 2 kinect sensors to my notebook. I know that I have to have at least 2 separate USB 2.0 controllers. According to tis website: LINK I have the same settings as in the picture. So I think that connecting 2 kinect sensors should be possible for me. I have 3 regular USB2 ports and one combined with e-SATA. So I have 4 ports to connect USB devices. However, when I try to connect 2 Kinect sensors (each time into different ports), I am always getting error message on one device (in windows device manager):
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Can anyone help me please? I do not have any other computer and dont want to buy new just because USB controllers. I thing there has to be a way to do this. Thank you
can you please get a schematic of your notebook's motherboard and double check how your 3 ports are connected to the 2 controllers you mention. Hopefully 1 out of the 3 ports will be connected to a different controller from other 2 ports.
Does your notebook allow you to connect an express card to it ? Perhaps you could get an additional port this way.
With a custom built PC and a PCI Express USB expansion card we've got 3 kinects connected at the same time for an art-installation/robotics project.
I remember though at the time getting 2 Kinects running at the same time on my old 2008 macbook with no problems. Note that this was with either the libfreenect and OpenNI drivers, since the Kinect SDK driver doesn't work on osx.
Also, since you're using the Kinect SDK, I'm guessing you are using either Kinect for Windows (v1 if you will) or Kinect for Xbox360 and not the Kinect 2 for Windows since the current Alpha release of the SDK currently only allows a single sensor.

Had a quick look here:
although couldn't easily find the schematics. My guess is two USB ports are connected to the same controller and the 3rd USB port might(don't take my word for it, check the manufacturers specs) be connected to a separate usb controller, in which case connecting one kinect to one side of your laptop and the other kinect to the port on the opposite should work. Make sure you see both sensors in Device Manager(run devmgmt.msc).
Also, just to double check your sensors as well, try connecting one, running a demo/test, then disconnecting and using a second sensor on the same port.
If both sensors work individually work on the same port, test them also on the usb port on the opposite side. You just want to make sure neither the sensors nor your ports are faulty. Lastly, if your hardware looks fine (power is good, sensors and ports are good), double check your code and me sure you don't accidentally open the same sensor twice or any other mistake that might be easy to miss.
If you have a friend you can either borrow another laptop for a short time just to test that would also be good. You can also try getting an USB Express Cardâ„¢ card for your laptop. Although a long shot, you could try to disable other usb devices on your laptop, leaving as much bandwidth available to the ports as possible. You should be able to do this either from Device Manager or your potentially from BIOS settings.

OpsView/Nagios SNMP USB device monitoring

Is there any way to monitor USB devices, connected to the server in Opsview Core?
Or there is any software that I can install to make SNMP possible for USB devices?
Some of the USB security dongles often disconnects by themselves. The point is to have notifications when they lost.

If your USB dongles are connected to the Opsview Server, and if this server is running Linux (i don't know much about Opsview except that it can use nagios plugins), it would probably need only a few lines of code to write a plugin that parses /proc/bus/usb/devices or the output of lsusb and checks for the vendor id / product id / product name of the USB dongles.

WWAN Interface AT Commands

I've got a Windows 8 Professional device which has got a Mobile Broadband adapter embedded and I need to be able to send AT commands to the modem, usually I'd connect to the COM port and send the commands. However the device doesn't appear to have any COM ports, instead it presents its self as a network adapter.
I'm wanting to send AT commands to change the APN of the modem and to reset the device, I've looked into the 'netsh mbn add profile' but this command always returns an error advising that the XML profile is incorrect.
Also from looking at the functions of the netsh mbn it doesn't seem to provide as much control as sending AT commands.
The modem that I'm trying to interface to is the Ericsson C5621 GW on a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2.
Is there another way to send AT commands?

I do not know this product in particular, but since I worked in Ericsson, later in ST-Ericsson with mobile phone development for over a decade it is doomed to have some of my code in it so I'll answer on a general basis.
Short version is, no unless the device exposes a serial interface over one of the external interfaces (possible interface types are RS-232, IrDA, Bluetooth, USB or CAIF), there is no way of sending AT commands to it1.
Being an embedded device in a laptop and
your since you say it seems to be without serial interfaces I assume it uses CAIF (commonly used in embedded settings. It could also have be using USB with the serial interfaces disabled, but since this press release mentions that it will be available in a version with PCI interface, that is very unlikely). And thus unless the device is set up with any active VEI channels, there is no ways in for AT commands.
There might be other ways of changing the APN though.
1 We had a debug mechanism to inject AT commands onto arbitrary serial interfaces, but this itself was running on a serial interface, started by an AT command. And besides it will not be present in released products.

usb sniffing with wireshark

at the moment I am using usbmon to sniff usb. for better understandability I want to use wireshark. I've used wireshark before for sniffing ethernet packets. But what to capture to sniff USB Packets ? I meant I need to start by selecting which interface to capture in wireshark. but what wold I select there for usb ?
Grab newest wireshark.
Use lsusb before and after plugin in device so You know which usb bus its plugged into.
type in terminal:
su -c "modprobe usbmon" && su -c "wireshark"
(First load kernel module that allow for usb sniffing for root, second load wireshark as root)
Than select usbmonX, where X stand for usb bus number (lsusb show those numbers).
After than you still need to filter packets for device / vendor id, or something else device specific, as wireshark will show all packets from all devices plugged into that bus. (Again lsusb before/after plugging you device will help).
Have you taken a look at the documentation for that on the Wireshark website?
In libpcap 1.0.x, the devices for capturing on USB have the name usbn, where n is the number of the bus. In libpcap 1.1.0 and later, they have the name usbmonn.
a quick notice since I just started using wireshark to sniff usb packets on linux. as I understand you need usbmon module loaded (which if you are using it should be). Additionally I seem to recall that while wireshark can be setup to let non root users sniff ethernet packets, some limitation required root access for usb packs (at least at the time of writting).
Similar to what others have said, on my system, Ubuntu 12.10, the usb interfaces have names like "usbmon1 USB bus number 1" and so forth.

How to detect that Symbian phone is being used as a modem?

I have a Nokia Symbian Series 60 3rd edition phone. I can use it as a GPRS / 3G modem either using Bluetooth, USB or IR.
Is there a way to programmatically detect when the phone is being used as a modem?
Please note I don't want to detect when a GPRS / 3G connection comes up (such as when you use the phone browser), but when a GPRS / 3G connection comes up that is the result of the phone being used as tethered modem via BT / IR / USB.
So the user has set up a dial up networking connection on their laptop, for instance, which uses the modem in the phone. They then launch that connection because they want to make a 3G wireless internet connection from their laptop via the phone. That's what I'd like to be able to detect from the phone.
I don't believe there's any public interface that you could use for this. You could probably use internal APIs to check what is creating the data connection, or more crudely check which processes are running when a data connection is created - probably quite easy to fool this method, depends why you want to know?
I can see network operators wanting to do this to block and/or charge extra for tethering usage. Easiest way to do that would be network side though, checking the browser UA header (also possible to fool, but not without harming your browsing experience a bit on the laptop).
