I want to get the process in a remote system using vb.net for that i have use getProcess() method. when i am trying to execute the code it is showing an error like "Couldn't connect to remote machine" .i know there should have certain privilege to use this.but i don't know how to set the privileges and what all are it. if any one knows please help me
sorry for my bad english.
The information from this blog post might be helpful:
Here is a list of common errors I had while working with the
System.Diagnostics.Process class. I listed all solutions that worked
for me.
Solution 1: Open MMC (Start/Run/mmc), add the Services snap-in and
enter the name of the machine you are trying to connect to. This
should give the exact reason it’s failing.
Solution 2: The inner exception could give you more information.
Solution 3: You need server permission.
Solution 4: Common on Windows 7 and Vista, start the Remote Registry
service.

I'm sure this has been answered before, but every example I try I can't seem to connect to my SQL Server.
I'm using SQL Server 2014, and the webpage is being hosted in IIS on Windows 7 x64.
I'm trying to get my webpages to build themselves recursively from information in a database, I've configured IIS to run ASP pages (I believe its classic ASP as opposed to ASP.net, but I may be wrong)
I started by looking at examples that basically returned all entries in in a particular column in a table, however when i got error messages on trying to load the page:
An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator.
If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error.
I tried stripping it down to bare minimum, i.e. just opening the connection to the database.
And even then I get the same error, here are a few of the examples I tried:
Example-1
Example-2
Example-3
Firstly if anyone could tell me how to debug it further, i.e. getting proper error messages that actually tell me something useful, that would be a good start.
If there's any information I missed then please ask.
If you've given your files the extension .asp then it is Classic ASP
Do you know what version of SQL Server you're using? If it's express then you need to say so in your connection string eg Data Source=yourserveraddress\SQLEXPRESS
I recommend using the OLEDB method in Example 3 rather than the ODBC method in 1 and 2 but they should all work. This is a good resource for Connection Strings

If you follow the steps on this page you will be able to see more useful error messages

I've been attempting to migrate from my own MSSQL to Azure Database services.
I got all the firewall things working and the database running on the azure, but when I try to connect through the local pc it crashed with an unknown exception.
So does visual studio.
Any ideas what could cause this unknown error?
Heres a picture demonstrating the crash and its not a user/password error. Just not.
Maybe it's better if you try to provide the Exception/Error code. You can use:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff394106.aspx
I had similar problems and in the end it turns to be the connection I've used - so one option is to restart your LAN/Network.
Update: According to me is config related error, please see these solutions here:

Maybe you've missed something, also what Win are you with?
im using oracle sql developer to make my database, but now i stopped to work.
it wrote this:
An error was encountered performing the requested operation:
Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12514,
TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor
Vendor code 12514
i also tried to make new connection but it didnt help
pls help me,i dont know what to do, i need this to do my homework
when i tried to change connection it wrote this:
An error was encountered performing the requested operation:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
01031. 00000 - "insufficient privileges"
*Cause: An attempt was made to change the current username or password
without the appropriate privilege. This error also occurs if
attempting to install a database without the necessary operating
system privileges.
When Trusted Oracle is configure in DBMS MAC, this error may occur
if the user was granted the necessary privilege at a higher label
than the current login.
*Action: Ask the database administrator to perform the operation or grant
the required privileges.
For Trusted Oracle users getting this error although granted the
the appropriate privilege at a higher label, ask the database
administrator to regrant the privilege at the appropriate label. Vendor code 1031
Please check the services are running:
OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener and OracleServiceORCL.
You're going to have to do some troubleshooting; Here are a couple of suggestions:
ORA-12514 Tips
ORA-12514 TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
How to resolve error: ORA-12514
The service name ,you are using should be in sid column and not in service name entry box.
For example, the service name provided for you is overflow, you have to mention it in
ex:10.171.1.24:1521:overflow
Sid : overflow
Service : leave blank
Test the connection
Go to Services
check whether the "ORACLEServiceORCL" is running or not.
if not running then right-click on it and click start.
Your problem may solve this.
Happy coding :D
This worked for me- Close your SQL Developer and launch again.
I had the same issue after restarting my PC and could not access my local database. This fixed it.
Go to Run > services.msc > Services (Local) > OracleService
Right-click on OracleService > Properties > Log On
Make sure Local System Account is checked then press OK.
Stop the OracleService and restart it. It should be working now.
Mine was working fine till last night but this morning I found the said problem. I checked OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener and OracleServiceORCL was running and in "Started" status but still issue was there.
Just restarting both the services solved my issue. I suggest just try this once to save your time before exploring other solutions.
Scenario:
If i try to start the server as a window service it gives an error stating that ceradentials are not correct. However on correcting the credentials in boot.properties when i try to start the server again it gives the same error.Any alternative for starting the server.I gave the same username and password in my startup Script and Boot.properties.
Scenario 2: If i start the server remotely through console then will it come up?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Preet
If i try to start the server as a window service it gives an error stating that credentials are not correct.
Then they aren't. Maybe provide more details on what you do exactly and the error message.
If i start the server remotely through console then will it come up?
First, if your credentials are not correct, then it won't change anything. Second, if you don't have a node manager configured, this won't be possible. Provide more details.
As part of our product's installation process, a database is attached to the server.
We use EXEC sp_attach_db in order to attach it to MSSQL.
The problem occures when we try to attach it with "SQL Authentication" connection string - the database is attached to the server as read-only, thus preventing any write access from being performed
This is driving us nuts... it's working just fine with Windows Authentication, and the only difference is the connection string... I tried googling for it but no mention for such a scenario is found.
Any ideas anyone?
It's important to mention that the MDF/LDF physical files are not set with "ReadOnly" attribute, so this is not the problem.
I'm curious why you can't attach the database with write permissions and then just make the whole thing read only after the install?
