I have a page with three radio buttons and a calendar usercontrol. The radio buttons have autopostback and depending on which one you click it should change the calendar availabilities based on the selected index. The problem is that the page load of the calendar is executing first before the selected index change (where I am setting the needed id).
Any suggestions?
You shouldn't initialize your Calendar-Control automatically in Page_Load. It should only be initialized through a public method. You could call this method If Not Page.IsPostback with default-settings and from your SelectedIndexChanged event-handler with the selected value(s) as parameter(s).

In this exercise, you’ll create an application with a multiple-document interface that consists of a parent form and two child forms.
Open the project and add a parent form
1. Open the CalculateFlooringCosts project in the CalculateFlooringCostsMDI directory. Then, review the code for the Carpeting Costs and Hardwood Costs forms so you understand how they work.
Add a form to the project, and set the IsMdiContainer property of this form to True to identify it as the parent form. Resize the form so it’s large enough to hold several child forms, and use the Application page of the Project Designer to change the startup form to the new form.
Add the File menu to the parent form
Add a MenuStrip control to the parent form. Then, use the Menu Designer to add a File menu to the parent form. This menu should include four menu items that display a Carpeting Costs form, display a Hardwood Costs form, close the active child form, and exit from the application. Give each menu item an appropriate name, include access keys for the menu and menu items, and include a separator bar between the Close and Exit items.
Add an event handler for the Click event of each item in the File menu. The event handlers for the New Carpeting Costs and New Hardwood Costs items should create a new instance of the appropriate form, set the parent form to the current form, and display the form. The event handler for the Close item should close the active child form, if there is one. And the event handler for the Exit item should exit from the application.
Change the Exit buttons on the Carpeting Costs and Hardwood Costs forms to Close buttons, and change the StartPosition property of these forms to WindowsDefaultLocation.
Test the application to be sure that the items in the File menu work as expected.
Add the Window menu to the parent form
Add a Window menu to the right of the File menu. Then, add three items to this menu that will let the user arrange the forms in a cascaded, vertical, or horizontal layout.
Give each item in the Window menu an appropriate name, and then add an event handler for the Click event of each item that arranges the child forms appropriately.
Set the MdiWindowListItem property of the menu strip so the Window menu will display a list of the open child forms.
Test the application to be sure that the items in the Window menu work as expected.
Add a toolbar to the parent form
Add a ToolStrip control to the parent form. Then, add two buttons to this toolbar with the text “Carpeting Costs” and “Hardwood Costs” on them. Be sure to assign appropriate names to these buttons.
Add an event handler for the Click event of each button that uses the Click event handler for the associated menu to display the form.
Test the application to be sure that the toolbar buttons work.
Add a status bar to the parent form
Add a StatusStrip control to the parent form. Then, add a single ToolStripStatusLabel control to the status bar.
Add a module-level variable to the parent form to store the count of child forms, and give this variable an initial value of 0. Add code to increase or decrease the value of this variable each time a new form is opened or closed.
Add a procedure named DisplayFormCount that sets the Text property of the ToolStripStatusLabel control to “Number of child forms currently displayed: ” appended with the current form count. Then, add code to call this procedure when the form is loaded and each time the form count changes.
Test the application to be sure that the form count is displayed properly.
It's steps 15 and 16 I am stuck on.
I have tried this:
Private Sub DisplayFormCount(Sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Me.MdiChildActivate
Dim activeForm As Form = Me.ActiveMdiChild
Me.sbMain.Items(0).Text = "Number of child forms currently displayed: " & Convert.ToString(Me.MdiChildren.Count)
End Sub
And it works for the most part. Upon form loading, it shows 0, then adding a form will make the count increase by 1. The problem is when I go to close the first child window, it doesn't subract. Afterwards all window closes reduces the count by 1 and when all windows are closed, it still says there's a count of 1.
I have a PopupExtender that shows some information when a button in the GridView is pressed. This button exists on every row.
I also have a DropDownList present in every row that is populated by querying a database. I do this because it may be populated with different items depending on the row.
The problem I have is that the PopupExtender is slow to pop-up because of the RowDataBound event of the GridView that repopulates the DDLs from the database when the PopupExtender's associated button is pressed.
How can I make the PopUpExtender pop-up faster?
You may need to consider jQuery Dialog instead of Asp.Net ajax popup extender.
http://jqueryui.com/dialog/.
Also, do you really need gridview, You can try ListView control instead of GridView.
I want to find a way to make a specific button, the form's default button,
I.e. the button that is highlighted when the form opens for the first time.
I tried the AcceptButton property but when I run the program, that does not work.
Any idea?
Thank you in advance,
Tassos
You need to change the AcceptButton property of the containing form.
form1.AcceptButton = button1
Here form1 is the Form whose default button you need to set, and button1 is the name of the Button on that form.
The form's AcceptButton and CancelButton properties define the default behaviour for the Enter and Escape keys, rather than the highlighting.
To highlight the button use the Focus method, but when doing this in the form_load event you will need to call the Select method instead.
btnDefault.Select()
As mentioned in the comments, setting the control to the lowest taborder will achieve the same thing
The answer from 'chk' on 5/2/13 is the correct answer, but is shown as a string which of course is not the way to do it.
Also, in the form's property sheet you can find, under Misc, the property 'AcceptButton'. This will give you a list of buttons on the form - just select the one you want.
The button selected as the AcceptButton will behave as the 'default' button. It will be 'highlighted' with a darker border and will be clicked when you push the Enter key on your keyboard.
Setting up an AcceptButton is different than setting the button's focus. The AcceptButton's click event will be triggered by the Enter key no matter which control has the focus on the form.
You can also do this programmatically.
I have a maintenance form where initially I want the "search" button as the form accept button.
when I'm displaying the field maintenance area, I want the "ok" button to be the accept button.
You simply change this in the appropriate areas in your code to Me.AcceptButton = MyButtonName.
I want to have a repeater like DataView or ListView. The first column of each row (named User ID) should be read from a List, and for each user ID, the program should dynamically create three radio buttons like these:
Requirements:
The user must able to change selection of radio buttons.
When the user clicks the submit button, radio values be displayed using the info("") method.
I've already done this by using this example, but when I click the submit button, old selections are shown, and the form gets reset to those old selections.
This example code might be helpful.
ListView doesn't play very well with form components, but it may work if you call ListView.setReuseItems(true);.
i am working on vb.net.
When i click a button in one of the row in the gridview, i am called a function to delete the data of tha row. it is working but it is getting postback.
i have placed gridview inside asp updatepanel.
How to prevent postback.
Do you have made your UpdatePanel's UpdateMode="Conditional"? You can define AsyncPostbackTriggers to f.e. your delete-button(eventname is optional and for button click is default).
To delete your row you have to delete it from the gridview's datasource and then rebind it to it.
