After having a couple of issues getting DQS installed, it appears to be installed, and I can now run the client up; however, after I've chosen to connect to '(LOCAL)', which brings back the dashboard for it, but it is unclear how to create a new knowledgebase or create a new data quality project as the options remain grayed out?
Do I need to do "something else" before I can start playing?
To enable all the options in the Data Quality Client home screen, ensure that the user account with which you logged on to the Data Quality Client is assigned one of the three dqs roles (dqs_administrator, dqs_kb_editor, and dqs_kb_operator) on the DQS_MAIN database. For information about granting DQS roles to a user, see Grant DQS Roles to User.
You will start by creating a new Knowledge Base (or importing one). I have made a series of short screencasts on how to use DQS on YouTube.

I am trying to implement a hardware busy light to show my Microsoft Teams presence so that my family to not enter the room I have the office while I am in a meeting. I am looking to implement something similar to:

The only problem I have with this setup is that I cannot get the MS Teams status.
The best way to go is by using MS Graph Presence API but my problem is that this is a company account and I don't have (and there is no way I could have) and app in the main subscription granted with the required scope: Presence.Read.
So I tried different ideas but none worked in the end:
check local running processes
check if MS Teams exposes any local API
check if there is a CLI available
This seems a simple idea, I mean, I see the status right there now while I am typing this message, I could as well do an app that gets a screenshot of the taskbar and extract the status from the icon, but is that really the only option I have?
I think I found something interesting for you.
Go to
C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams
you'll find a file called logs.txt
In this file you see if your current state changed
(current state: Available -> DoNotDisturb)
I would write a script with php or VB (depends on your skills) that read that logs.txt file like every minute and check for the last "current state" line.
What those posts are doing (certainly the first one, I didn't check the 2nd one) is calling the Microsoft Graph, which has a "presence" endpoint to get a user's status. There's actually even a specific "/me" endpoint, to get your own personal preference (less access rights needed). In order for this to work, as you've mentioned, you do need to have an Azure AD App registration. However, importantly, this will only require "delegated" permission (i.e. only permission from the single user, you, to access just data for that single user, you). As a result, you can use "delegated" and not "Application" permissions, which means that it does -not- require Admin consent for the tenant.
It -does- require and Azure Add Application though, at the risk of stating the obvious. While you don't have tenant admin rights, you need to see if you have Azure rights, just to create an application (you might have this anyway as a developer in your org). If you don't even have this, you can sign up for an M365 Developer account, and use that tenant. Importantly - the application does't have to be in the same tenant. If it's not, it's just a simple multi-tenant app, like any 3rd party Azure AD-backed application is.
I am fairly new to coding in the .Net environment. I am having trouble finding "real-world" examples on authentication/authorization using Identity. Most examples I come across are primarily textbook examples that use the ASP .Net registration template.
I am trying to find guidance on where to look (yes, I Googled and I get very unrealistic/unusable use cases or "classroom" examples) or how to do this.
I work for a small school and I am trying to build an application (possibly Blazor - just experimenting with various technologies now) that allows both students and employees to login into a portal and view their relevant data. I have an Employee table and a Student table based on POCO classes. When I add identity to the project it creates Users and Roles tables as well.
I would like to have the "Users" table based on the Student and Employee tables - not have a separate users table. I do not want to have a "registration" option either. I would like the option for an Admin (which would fall under an "Employee") to be able to add users, but not use a registration page.
How would I implement Identity and Roles without using all the extras added? I am using .Net 5.0.

I understand what you're trying to do. It IS possible to Create a Custom AuthenticationStateProvider
But unless you have a VERY robust database already, I wouldn't do it. Getting the default system set up and migrating users will take at most an hour. Setting up your own custom authorization system is likely to take you MUCH MUCH longer.
Having different users in different tables is not a good design plan. They all have names, phone numbers, e-mails and so on-- put them on one table.
Hi Derrick and welcome to the community! #Bennyboy1973 is correct, in that both your Students and Employees are all "Users", so they should all be stored in the same table. To add to that response a bit, probably the simplest way for you to manage them is by using Roles, so the Students could be in one role and the Employees could be in another. By having a role attached to each, you can then use the roles as a filter in your queries and you could also restrict the access and actions each type will have based on the role they are in.
Regarding having administrators add the users to the database without public access, this can be done as well. Once you get the default identity system up and running, you can scaffold out the whole system so it can be modified, and probably the easiest way to achieve what you are after is to then modify the default registration (signup) page so that it requires the user to be authenticated to reach it, and then implement a confirmation email to activate each new account.
There are a few things with this approach that you need to be aware of as well.
Since the admin will be setting up all the other user accounts, you should modify the email confirmation chain to require a password reset at some point. The administrators can have access to the user's information as needed but shouldn't have the user's passwords.
Identity Server will store passwords in an encrypted format, and you'll need an initial user in your database. What this means is that you will have to "seed" an initial admin user into the database that you can use to sign in and get started with everything else. You'll have to research how to do this, as it isn't as simple as just accessing the database directly and adding the user and roles because of the encryption. The program you build should be designed to do this for you on either the first run or if you are connecting to a new database, using a username and password that you know. It will then store the user properly that you can use to sign in as Admin, then change the admin password. This makes the whole thing more secure.
This all sounds like a headache, but it's worth it to work through and know how it all fits together. The, as mentioned in other answers, you can migrate existing data into the database.
I want to auto-assign a few of the Projects to the user who is logging in using the LDAP credentials. Currently, if LDAP user logs in, I have to go in Report Portal using super admin credentials and assign Member Role and Projects to that specific member.
I have recently tried this LDAP feature and facing this issue of the new user gets creating and assigning projects and members to each one of them. I wan some auto-assignment (like can we passed while setting LDAP setting in Report Portal)

It can be done via scripting, see which requests are send to server in browser Network tab and put the same into the bash/shell script. Parametrize according to username and required access.

We're currently evaluating SAP Business Objects XI 3 for a front end reporting solution, but I'm not happy that we will need to create a new set of logins that will be managed independently from our existing website. We have an authentication API that our various applications all hook in to, so we effectively get single sign on, and single account management.
Is there a way to write a custom authentication plugin for SAP BOE 3? I've googled for information and have come up empty handed. Links to documents would be handy also.
The solution that we use for this problem is to have a seperate password management page built into the HR space that will change all the user's passwords to the same thing. So there is one input for username and pass that changes the global password for a user and then it runs through and changes all the different SAP ones that are needed.
Not really the answer you are looking for, but it is somewhat of a solution.
I am looking for a way for my users to be able to login to both of my Joomla sites (one running 1.5 and the other 1.6) using the same credentials. For example, if a user registers to my Joomla1.5 portal, when they use that same info for my Joomla1.6, they get logged in without having to re-register and vice versa.
I guess an authentication plugin would be the best solution in combination with a XML-RPC service? Joomla1.5 site's plugin is triggered which "communicates" with the Joomla1.6 site where the user is already registered, if the credentials check out, a new user is created and the user automatically gets logged in.

You are trying to do two very different things that will require two very different plugins. First, you need a bridge to handle user table synchronization. You not only have to create a user for each site, you have to sync everything about both accounts each time anything changes. This would include changing email address, password, or even user name plus any other related data such as the use groups that the user belongs to. A good place to start would be jFusion, which is designed to bridge Joomla with other software packages but can certainly be modified to bridge Joomla sites. JFusion also has the added advantage of creating user sessions for each connected software package for a single unified login, which would be the second piece of the puzzle you would need to solve once you get the users sorted out.
