Delete an image from folder using filename in vb.net - vb.net

I have backup folder where I store the images while loading them. So I need to delete the image from the backup folder when deleted from the checked listbox.
So how do I do that?
If CheckedListBox1.Items.Count = 0 Then
MsgBox("Please load the images", MsgBoxStyle.Critical)
Else
If Thumbcontrol1.SelectedThumbnail Is Nothing Then
MsgBox("Please select the thumbnail to remove", MsgBoxStyle.Information)
Else
CheckedListBox1.Items.Remove(CheckedListBox1.SelectedItem)
Thumbcontrol1.RemoveSelectedThumbnail()
If CheckedListBox1.Items.Count > 0 Then
CheckedListBox1.SelectedIndex = CInt(index)
End If
If CheckedListBox1.Items.Count = 0 Then
Thumbcontrol1.BackgroundImage = My.Resources.backimage
frmDisplay.GCanvas1.Image = Nothing
End If
End If
End If

You can use the methods in the System.IO.File class to delete a file, by providing the filepath to the method.
System.IO.File.Delete("path\to\file")

System.IO.File.Delete(filename)

I have this code that I am trying to work in it I am using VB.NET and MS ACCESS as DATA BASE.. As I go along with my code I have encountered many problems such as : Command text was not set for the command object.... Does any one have the idea on how to fix this and can you critique my code for possible mistake?? It will be a huge help for my project.... Thanks Ahead!

Access denied during production

The code below works as intended in DEBUG with no errors. I input my search parameters, the record returns and populates all textboxes and loads the PDF file into the AxAcroPDF1 viewer.
However, after I compile and install the program I am receiving the error "Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\NAME OF PROGRAM\temp.file' is denied'
This only occurs when I search for a record and the PDF (in Binary format in the DB) to that record is supposed to load fails with the error message listed above. How can I resolve the permissions level (assuming this is the issue) to allow for the PDF to load? The area of concern presumably and more specifically is the LoadPDF() sub.

In your function LoadPDF you create a reference to tempdir and then don't use it. Instead, you use Application.StartupPath() which will point to C:\Programs(x86) and is usually not writeable without admin rights.
But why don't you use your temp dir:
Dim temp = SpecialDirectories.Temp 'more robust approach to get tempdir
If File.Exists(temp & "\temp.file") = True Then
AxAcroPDF1.src = "blank.pdf"
My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile(temp & "\temp.file")
End If
...
File.WriteAllBytes(temp & "\temp.file", Buffer)
'DATA READER
AxAcroPDF1.src = temp & "\temp.file"

I'm trying to search in a textbox for the name that I saved the image with. but I haven't had success all I get is the error of the title.
this is how my database looks like the images are saved as an ole object
This is the error I get
I was following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFdjp39mfhQ
but he didn't quite explain how to use the:
TextBox1.Text = publictable.Rows(0).Item(1)
arrimage = publictable.Rows(0).Item(1)'
don't know if it's the cause of the issue.
instructions. The reason why my code looks different is that I was trying to stuff to see if I could make it work.
I have tried to search for answers and people suggest that I may have put the table name wrong or the column but I copied the name exactly how it is in the table with ctrl + c and ctrl + v.
what I want is that when I type the name in the column name of the database that it brings the designated picture stored as ole object onto my desired picture box on my form app.
Needless to say, I'm not that experienced with vb.net and SQL, Acces. I'm just following tutorials for being able to complete the project.
Do not declare connections or commands or datareaders at the class level. They all need to have their Dispose methods called. Using blocks will have the declare, closing and disposing even if there is an error. Streams also need Using blocks.
Defaults for an OpenFiledialog
Multiselect is False
CheckFileExists is True
CheckPathExists is True
DereferenceLinks is True
ValidateNames is True
FileName is ""
Unless you are getting paid by the line, it is unnecessary to reset these values to their defaults.
I have alerted your Filter to exclude All Files. You also had jpg appearing twice.
I declared a variable to hold the file extension, PictureFormat, of the image file so you could provide the proper parameter for ImageFormat.
When you retrieve the image field from the database it comes as an Object. To get the Byte() a DirectCast should work.

If c > 0 Then
Dim bytBLOBData() As Byte = _
ds.Tables(0).Rows(c - 1)("imagedate")
Dim stmBLOBData As New MemoryStream(bytBLOBData)
ScannerX_Pic2.Image = Image.FromStream(stmBLOBData)
End If
End Sub
Now I get the error Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
To save an image you could do something like this
Dim sql As String = "INSERT INTO Information VALUES(#name,#photo)"
Image Img = PictureBox1.BackgroundImage
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(sql, con)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#name", TextBox1.Text)
Dim ms As New MemoryStream()
Img.Save(ms, Img.RawFormat)
Dim data As Byte() = ms.GetBuffer()
Dim p As New SqlParameter("#photo", SqlDbType.Image)
p.Value = data
cmd.Parameters.Add(p)
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
And to retrieve an image
cmd = New SqlCommand("select photo from Information where name='Rose'", con)
Dim imageData As Byte() = DirectCast(cmd.ExecuteScalar(), Byte())
If Not imageData Is Nothing Then
Using ms As New MemoryStream(imageData, 0, imageData.Length)
ms.Write(imageData, 0, imageData.Length)
PictureBox1.BackgroundImage = Image.FromStream(ms, True)
End Using
Also check out this article it's doing exactly what you are trying to achieve
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/437937/Save-and-Retrieve-Image-from-a-SQL-Server-Database
The sql is selecting a column named "Finger":
"select Finger FROM Scanner"
But it's later trying to build an Image object from a column named "imagedate":
ds.Tables(0).Rows(c - 1)("imagedate")
It needs to use the same column name as the SQL result set:
ds.Tables(0).Rows(c - 1)("Finger")
There may be other problems as well, but that's what jumped out at me right away.
