Hey when I try open table I receive the message
Timeout Expired
Then when I try and rename the table I get
Rename Failed Lock Request Time out Expired
Basically I just want to delete the content of this table but in every step there is something stopping me.
Any Ideas ?
If you just want to empty it, use DELETE FROM TABLENAME or TRUNCATE TABLENAME in SSMS or SQLCMD.
Sounds like some running query/transaction is locking the table. Try using sp_who to see what activity is occuring:
USE master
EXEC sp_who 'active'
Or you can use SQL Server Profiler to see what queries are running against your DB.
SqlACID tel you the best and easiest way to solve your problem.
truncate will work faster and effective, you will not have large archive log files, but after you can't restore your data. it will delete permanently and the flash_got command will not help you.
if truncate does not works too after that you must recreate your table by this command
drop table your_table cascade constraints;
-- Create table
create table your_table (col1 number, col2 varchar2(5)).
if it does not works too after this create another table like it:
create table temp_table2 as
select * from temp_table 1 where 1=2

I've been trying to rename a table from "fund performance" to fund_performance in SQLWorkbench for a Redshift database. Commands I have tried are:
alter table schemaname."fund performance"
rename to fund_performance;
I received a message that the command executed successfully, and yet the table name did not change.
I then tried copying the table to rename it that way. I used
#CREATE TABLE fund_performance LIKE "schema_name.fund performance";
CREATE TABLE fund_performance AS SELECT * FROM schema_name."fund performance";
In both these cases I also received a message that the statements executed successfully, but nothing changed. Does anyone have any ideas?
Use following it may work out for you
SELECT * into schema_name.fund_performance FROM schema_name.[fund performance]
It will copy the data by creating new table as fund_performance but it won't create any constraints and Identity's
To Rename specific table without disturbing existing constraints
EXEC sp_rename 'schema_name.[fund performance]', 'schema_name.fund_performance';
I have a hive job that is scheduled to be executed. At the beginning of the job, I want to truncate a table by doing:
TRUNCATE TABLE SOMETABLE
The problem is that the table may be empty. In that case, I don't want to perform the truncate operation which will raise an exception. I know in MySQL you can do something like:
IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM SOMETABLE)
BEGIN
TRUNCATE SOMETABLE
END
Is there a way I can achieve something similar in hive? Thanks a lot for your help!
If the table is empty also hive won't raise any exception.
You can also make use of Temporary tables in hive so that these tables only accessible through the session that established and very useful to manage intermediate data.
Once the session got closed then Hive deletes all temporary tables.
Please refer this and this links regarding hive temporary tables.
I want to insert data from database1 into database2 when something changes. Like a trigger but the thing is I am not allowed to create a trigger in database1.
I basically need to insert certain data into a table from a database into another database as they happen.
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanx
You can create a program to do that, there are many ways instead but I think this is the straightforward and easy one.
For example if you work with SQL server you can create C# code that connect to the two databases and check for data in the first one then send it to the second.
For example:
you can create a trigger for the first DB tables you want to check them, then you can create a web service that check if the trigger fire, it will get the data from first database and send it to the second, this will be better to enhance and you can change the code to do whatever you want without making any changes from the database side
MS SQL Server Replication
I think suitable for you is Transactional Replication
Transactional replication is asynchronous but close to real time
What about the merge operator ?
Merge operator will commit changes into the target table from the source table when something change.
As you cannot use trigger this cannot be a real time process but with a process scheduler like SQL Agent, you can run it each 10 seconds depending on your table size.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb510625.aspx
You can do it when your source come from multiple table by using CTE like that :
With TableSources As
(
Select id,Column1, Column2 from table1
UNION
Select id,Colum1,Column2 from table2
)
MERGE INTO TargetTable
USING TableSources ON TargetTable.id=TableSources.id
WHEN NOT MATCHED BY Target
Insert(Column1,Column2) Values(Column1,Column2)
WHEN NOT MATCHED BY Source
Delete
WHEN MATCHED
Update Set Column1=TableSources.Column1, Column2=TableSources.Column2
;
Is it possible to copy a table (with definition, constraints, identity) to a new table?
Generate a CREATE script based on the table
Modify the script to create a different table name
Perform an INSERT from selecting everything from the source table
No, not really, you have to script it out, then change the names
you can do this
select * into NewTable
FROM OldTable
WHERE 1 =2 --if you only want the table without data
but it won't copy any constraints
It's not the most elegant solution, but you could use a tool like the free Database Publishing Wizard from Microsoft.
It creates an SQL script of the table definition including data and including indexes and stuff. But you would have to alter the script manually to change the table name...
Another possibility:
I just found this old answer on SO.
This script is an example to script the constraints of all tables, but you can easily change it to select only the constraints of "your" table.
So, you could do the following:
Create the new table with data like SQLMenace said (select * into NewTable from OldTable)
Add constraints, indexes and stuff by changing this SQL script
I have a stored procedure on SQL Server 2000. It contains:
select ... into ##Temp ...
...
drop table ##Temp
When I run the stored procedure with ADO a second time, it prompts:
There is already an object named '##Temp' in the database.
Could anyone kindly tell me what's wrong?
You should re-write your stored proc to drop the temp table if it exists, then you won't ever have this issue
IF (SELECT object_id('TempDB..##Temp')) IS NOT NULL
BEGIN
DROP TABLE ##Temp
END
You are using a global temp table as indicated by the ## at the beginning of the table name. This means multiple sessions can access the table.
It's likely that you have a connection open that created the table, but failed to drop it. Are you sure that the first ADO run actually drop the table. Could it have failed, or did the flow control in the procedure skip the drop statement?
You may want to test the procedure in SQL Server Enterprise Manager to see if it reports any errors.
Since you chose to use a global temporary table ##Temp, it is visible to all SQL connections at any given time. Obviously, while the stored proc is running for one connection, a second connection comes in and tries to create yet another ##Temp but that already exists....
Use connection-local #Temp tables (only one #) instead.
Oh, it's all my fault. I called the SP twice through one connection by mistake.
That's why it always reports error when being called the second time.
Of course you won't know that by reading my description. Sorry guys...
For me this solution works :
IF (SELECT object_id ='#Temp') IS NOT NULL
BEGIN
DROP TABLE #Temp
END
