I am presenting a UIModalView in a UISplitViewApplication. I have wired up a "done" action, which is:

[self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES];
}
When I press the button, the orientation of the device changes to potrait mode. Why is this?
I don't think you've provided enough code for anyone to be able to give you an accurate answer, but one possibility is that you haven't implemented the following method in all of your controllers:
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation {
return YES;
}
I had this problem and the accepted solution didn't solve it for me.
I was trying to load a modal view controller from a UIPopoverController, and every time it was dismissed it would rotate to portrait.
When I moved the modal view to load from the Detail View Controller of the UISplitView it worked fine.

I have a view controller with an UIButton. That view controller is shown in landscape right mode only. Until iOS 8.0.2, all works fine. I'm testing with an iPhone 5S.
But after installing iOS 8.1.1, the following happens:
If I click the button just right after the view controller is shown, all works fine. The touch up inside event is received.
But if I start to rotate the phone a few times, even when the view does not change orientation (remember, landscape right only), the events are not received anymore.
Here is the relevant code:

{
NSLog(#"shouldAutorotate");
return NO;
}
- (NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations

I should mention that the method shouldAutorotate is called several times.

If you use only one landscape right mode, try to detect device orientation like here:

I setup my UIViewController in app delegate as self.window.rootViewController. For some reason I need open sign view as modal from my root view controller like:
self.window.rootViewController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationCurrentContext;
[self.window.rootViewController presentModalViewController:signViewC animated:NO];
If I change device orientation in sign view, my root view controller doesn't change orientation and I get incorrect orientation after sign view dismissed. Is it possible to change root view orientation if I changed orientation in sign view?
In my root controller I added:
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
return YES;
}
And autorotation works if I rotate root view without modal view.
First of all, you shouldn't be presenting a modal from your app delegate. Whatever check you are doing to determine if you should present that view controller should be done in your main view controller. From there, you should call the code to present the modal, like so:
[self presentModalViewController:signViewC animated:NO]
That way, your main view controller isn't dismissed, it's only pushed down the view stack and should still respond to rotation notifications.
Try that out and let me know how it turns out.

Take out the ModalPresentationStyle. That's what's messing you up.
I have a table view with some words, and i present flash-card style landscape view when the device rotates. I made it by observing the "UIDeviceOrientationDidChangeNotification".

1)That works fine and smooth, but the problem is that when the we are in the landscape, i don't want the viewcontroller to react to the spinning around the vertical axis,so that i could lay the phone on the table and it would still be in the landscape.
Maybe i should somehow observe the horizontall spinnings, instead of deviceorientation?

2)The second question is where to remove observer, if this controller is in a tab bar, and i want to perform the same transition in another controller in the same tabbar,but,of course,with another landscape view?
I tried in viewWillDissappear, but it doesn't work properly.

For your first question, there should be a method in your viewcontroller which you may need to edit to only support portrait
-(BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation {
return UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait(interfaceOrientation); //only allow portrait
}
That will stop it auto rotating to landscape, while keeping your original method intact
For the second. What about when the transition is complete? Then re-add it when the view appears again. And then in your landscape controller, add it to re-detect when the device is portrait.
I found the solution
I changed else to if([[UIDevice currentDevice]orientation]==UIDeviceOrientationPortrait||[[UIDevice currentDevice]orientation]==UIDeviceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown) and everything works fine!

About removing the observer - i do it in -viewWillAppear,checking,if i am not in landscape now.
I've been using PresentModalViewController a lot and never had any issues. But when showing a modal controller from within any controller hosted by a UISplitViewController I get strange orientation bugs.
In my table view (which is root controller of the UISplitView), when a cell is touched, I call:
MyController oModal = new MyController();
oModal.ModalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.FormSheet;
oModal.ModalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyle.CrossDissolve;
this.PresentModalViewControll(oModal, true);
If the iPad is in Portrait, all is okay. If it is in landscape however, the modal controller fades in but its orientation is incorrect. Then, after fading in has finished, it suddenly flips 90 degrees and adjusts to correct orientation.
I have overriden ShouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation(), so that cannot be it.

I bumped into this and have a workaround, not a real solution. The problem is that the UIViewController you are presenting your modal controller from (in you code "this") is responding with the incorrect orientation to it's property interfaceOrientation. It happened to me and I'm not really sure why. The workaround is to add a custom getter for the property in your UIViewController ("this") like the following:
-(UIDeviceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
return [[UIDevice currentDevice] orientation];
}
I got the idea from this post. I believe the problem is that the View Controller is not properly embedded into the view controller hierarchy but haven't figured out how. Hope this helps.
I created a UIViewController view from XIB with modalPresentationStyle set to UIModalPresentationFormSheet and everything works great in portrait mode. When I switch to landscape the view gets moved upperleft (it's not centered as it should be) and most part of it is clipped.
Any ideas why this is happening and how to solve it?

I had this problem as well. Turned out, I had the autorotate function set to Portrait for both the modal controller and the calling controller.
In iOS 7, to solve the problem of the modal view controller to appear to the left after apparition of the keyboard (problem that I have when I present an EKEventEditViewController in UIModalPresentationFormSheet, I do :
