In Expresson player when showing a video with 4:3 aspect ratio the full screen video image crops of some of the picture at the bottom, and inserts a black bar at the top. What part of the code should I change to fix this issue?
I had exactly the same problem, I have listed how to fix it with Expression Blend here:

When I use WMP i have an option to "Zoom to fill" this fills the entire screen regardles of aspect ratio obviously with aspect ratios like 4:3 there will be some automatic cropping involved. However I cant seem to get it done using the WMP control in VB.net
If AxWindowsMediaPlayer1.playState = WMPLib.WMPPlayState.wmppsPlaying Then
AxWindowsMediaPlayer1.fullScreen = True
AxWindowsMediaPlayer1.stretchToFit = True
End If
Either one of the options shown above do zoom to fill but only as far as the aspect ratio will allow (it wont crop), meaning in the aspect ratio of 4:3 the video will play with a vertical black bar on either side, Something which if the same video is played in standalone WMP would not happen.
How do I make the image fill the entirety of the screen without any bars?
Okay I see the issue now I have mistaken the Movies & TV app for WMP. Perhaps if I get the aspect ratio from the MP4 file and then use the height of my screen to calculate the width and resize the WMP to be wider than the actual screen size litturaly pushing the two vertical bars off screen?
In light of research VCL library's are just as easy to use and are more suited to my situation
My question is, why does the iPad preview use a different image than the storyboard for wRegular hAny?
I'm trying to set up a universal app with a menu that will use larger buttons for iPad. In the asset catalog, I've specified the standard image size for wAny x hAny, and loaded a larger image for wRegular x hAny.
The story board looks fine for all size classes, with the wRegular x hAny using the iPad image, and everything else using the iPhone image. But the previews all use the iPhone image, including the iPad preview, despite the storyboards showing the correct images. In the screen shots below, the story board is shown to the left, preview to the right.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I'm trying to avoid using explicit image sizes for each class - is that what I should be doing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've read everything I can on using different image sizes, and still cannot figure this out.

You can't have a different images by size class for the same button in Interface Builder. It looks to me like you set the image of the button to be the iPad one first in Regular/Any, then set the iPhone one afterward in Any/Any which changed what you did in Regular/Any.
In this image, see how the Font has a + symbol to the left of it, but Image doesn't? That's for specifying the value per size class. Since Image doesn't have that, it's not a value saved for the specific size class.
In learning Objective-C and how to create ios apps, I'm following some tutorials using Xcode(5.1.1).
In this one, I have a 64x64 pixel Image view on the left hand side with a text field immediately to it's right stretching to the right hand edge of screen and a text view below it. In the simulator, when I add a photo, the photo is correctly sized but the text field is significantly enlarged and the text view has disappeared.
I figure it's an error on my part but I can't see where, so I need some guidance.
I tried, but Stackoverflow won't let me post images unless I have a reputation 10 or greater.
i developed a game for the iphone4. Now i got problems with the iphone5 and the 4inch screen. My game is on the left side of the 4inch screen and i have a big black border on the right side. But the buttons from the game are in the middle of screen, they have same position like on the iphone4. I checked everythin but i dont know why the background-images and the sprites are on the left side and the buttons are in the middle. I want that everything is in the middle or on the left side. It would be great if anybody could help me!! Thanks!!
COCOS2d-iPhone:
If you're using the latest beta, the only change you should need to
make is export all your images at twice the size and use the "-hd"
suffix, similar to Apple's "#2x". The documentation also says you need
to set the content scale factor of the director.
You can find the documentation here.
and more detail here.
COCS2d-X:
Cocos2D-x has a very easy solution for multi-resolution problem.
In fact you just need to set your DesignResolution and then just imagine your target device will has this resolution.
If target device really has this resolution ( or some other but with same ratio) cocos2d will handle to fix screen and your game looks same in all devices.
And when ratio of target device is different, you have many option ( as cocos2d language, policy) to manage that.
For example if you use Exact fit policy, cocos2d will force your game ( and design) to fit target device screen (without that black boarder).
Exact fit
The entire application is visible in the specified area without trying
to preserve the original aspect ratio. Distortion can occur, and the
application may appear stretched or compressed.
For more detail just take a look at this link : http://www.cocos2d-x.org/projects/cocos2d-x/wiki/Multi_resolution_support
The white background in my apple touch icon turns black?? My white background isn't transparent. The icon has a white triangle, red circle and black text. The only thing I can make out is the white triangle and red circle. Any idea whats causing this and how to make the icon keep its white background?
Much appreciated.
I'm not sure exactly what it was, but I may have narrowed it down.
The first time I uploaded the images they may have had the transparent background.
The second time I uploaded them I added the white background, but the png save for devices setting still had transparency checked.
The third time I uploaded them I saved them without the transparency checked but still got the black background.
All along I think the iOS Safari browser had the first set of images stored in cache. After clearing the cache the new image showed up with no problem.
Edit: Its the transparent background that turns it black.
As gstricklind found, if your png has alpha channel transparency, iOS will unfortunately ignore any "precomposed" directive and apply all its usual effects, in adddition to giving your icon a black background (white didn't seem like a better choice??).
The solution is, of course, to precompile the icons with no transparency. This makes it pretty difficult to utilize Android's support of alpha channels while offering itouch icons as well if a black background does not work for you. I found this tool useful when composing: http://www.gieson.com/Library/projects/utilities/icon_slayer

Transparent Apple Touch Icons are indeed possible. What you need to do is strip all excess information from the PNG using ImageOptim for Mac https://imageoptim.com/mac or a similar program on windows. I did extensive research and stumbled on the answer by looking at the apple touch icon used by the Virtual DJ site. This icon keeps it's transparent background on iOS and MacOS Sierra. I looked at the file size and realized how small it was compared to the custom apple touch icons with transparency that I made for my favorites in Safari. Next I looked at the file information using the inspector in Mac's Preview app. All of my custom apple touch icons had four tabs in the inspector section named General, exif, PNG and TIFF. The virtual DJ icon only had two tabs named PNG and General. Once I ran my custom images through ImageOptim the file sizes plummeted by over 90% and the extra TIFF and exif tabs disappeared from the inspector in Preview. Sure enough once I reloaded my custom images and launched Safari all of my Favorites tabs have transparent backgrounds!!!! Please see attached image for proof. Transparent Apple-Touch-Icons
