How do I call a method every x seconds? - objective-c

I have a NSWindow that I'm putting into fullscreen mode. I would like to be able to hide the mouse when its not in use (say 15 seconds after it was last used). I have my application delegate as follows:
MyMediaRoomAppDelegate.h:
#import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h>
#interface MyMediaRoomAppDelegate : NSResponder <NSApplicationDelegate> {
NSWindow *window;
NSDate *lastMouseMove;
}
#property (assign) IBOutlet NSWindow *window;
#property (nonatomic, retain) NSDate *lastMouseMove;
#end
MyMediaRoomAppDelegate.m:
#import "MyMediaRoomAppDelegate.h"
#implementation MyMediaRoomAppDelegate
#synthesize window;
#synthesize lastMouseMove;
- (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification {
// The application has just finished lanching
// Grab the screen size
NSRect screenRect;
screenRect = [[NSScreen mainScreen] frame];
// Setup the window - full screen
[[self window] setLevel:NSMainMenuWindowLevel+1];
[[self window] setStyleMask:NSBorderlessWindowMask];
[[self window] setOpaque:YES];
[[self window] setBackgroundColor:[NSColor blackColor]];
[[self window] setFrame:screenRect display:YES animate:NO];
// Setup the mouse
[[self window] setAcceptsMouseMovedEvents:YES];
[[self window] makeFirstResponder:self];
[NSCursor hide];
}
- (BOOL)acceptsFirstResponder
{
return YES;
}
- (void)mouseMoved:(NSEvent *)theEvent
{
[NSCursor unhide];
[self setLastMouseMove: [NSDate date]];
}
#end
What I'm not sure about is how to re-hide the cursor after 15 seconds. The thing is I need to check setLastMouseMove, every second or so, not just call [NSCursor hide] after 15 seconds is up.

Try NSTimer. You can specify it to be repeating at creation time.

How to restart the scheduled NSTimer in UIViewController when UIView.xib is dismissed in ios 9?

I have created a timer that is fired after 10.0 seconds and calls targetMethod: on self, which is a pointer to the NSTimer instance.This timer should only work when its associated viewcontroller screen is in the view.I have stopped the timer while loading .xib file called PhotoView.xib because timer blocks the UI. But I don't know how to start the timer again when PhotoView.xib is removed/dismissed from the Viewcontroller.
Can someone please tell me how to restart the timer(of parentViewcontroller) when .xib is dismissed from parentViewcontroller?
SampleView.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface SampleView : UIView
#property(nonatomic,retain)IBOutlet UIView* view;
#property(nonatomic,retain)IBOutlet UIImageView* imageview;
#property(nonatomic,retain)IBOutlet UIButton* dismissButton;
#end
SampleView.m
#import "GroupPhotoView.h"
#implementation SampleView
#synthesize imageview,view,dismissButton;
-(IBAction) dismissView: (id) sender{
[self removeFromSuperview];
}
#end
SampleViewController.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface SampleViewController : UIViewController
#property(nonatomic,retain)NSTimer *timer;
#end
SampleViewController.m
#import "SampleViewController.h"
#interface SampleViewController ()
#end
#implementation SampleViewController
#synthesize timer;
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
}
-(void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated{
self.timer=[NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:10 target:self selector:#selector(sampleMethod:) userInfo:nil repeats:YES];
}
-(void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated{
//stop the timer when SampleVC is not in the view
if ([self.timer isValid])
{
[self.timer invalidate];
self.timer=nil;
}
}
- (IBAction)displayAction:(id)sender
{
[self loadSampleImage];
}
-(void)loadSampleImage:(UIImage*)aImage{
if ([self.timer isValid])
{
[self.timer invalidate];
self.timer=nil;
}
SampleView *customView =(SampleView *)[[[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:#"PhotoView" owner:self options:nil] objectAtIndex:0];
customView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:0 alpha:0.8];
customView.imageview.image=[UIImage imageNamed:#"cs"];
[customView setFrame:self.view.frame];
[self.navigationController.view addSubview:customView];
}
}
#end
Thanks in advance.
You can use Delegate to restart NSTimer again. A delegate allows one object to send messages to another object when an event happens. A delegate is use for similar problem when object A calls to object B but once action completed A should know that B has completed the task and take necessary action.
Create SampleView :
// Delegate to respond back in SampleView.m
id <SampleView> _delegate;
// OR in SampleView.h
#property (strong, nonatomic) id _delegate;
After that add action completed call in SampleView.m :
-(IBAction) dismissView: (id) sender{
[self removeFromSuperview];
[_delegate startTimer];
}
Add method start Timer in SampleViewController.m:
customView.delegate = self;
-(void)startTimer
{
self.timer=[NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:10 target:self selector:#selector(sampleMethod:) userInfo:nil repeats:YES];
}
It will start timer again after .xib is dismissed from parentViewcontroller.

keyDown not being called

I have a custom NSView called SurfaceView. It is the contentView of a NSWindow and it handles basic events like mouse click and drawing. But don't matters what I do, it does not handle the keyDown function. I've already override the acceptsFirstResponder but nothing happens.
If it matters, I run the application using a custom NSEvent loop, shown below:
NSDictionary* info = [[NSBundle mainBundle] infoDictionary];
NSString* mainNibName = [info objectForKey:#"NSMainNibFile"];
NSApplication* app = [NSApplication sharedApplication];
NSNib* mainNib = [[NSNib alloc] initWithNibNamed:mainNibName bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]];
[mainNib instantiateNibWithOwner:app topLevelObjects:nil];
[app finishLaunching];
while(true)
{
NSEvent* event = [app nextEventMatchingMask:NSAnyEventMask untilDate:[NSDate date] inMode:NSDefaultRunLoopMode dequeue:YES];
[app sendEvent:event];
// Some code is execute here every frame to do some tasks...
usleep(5000);
}
Here's the SurfaceView code:
#interface SurfaceView : NSView
{
Panel* panel;
}
#property (nonatomic) Panel* panel;
- (void)drawRect:(NSRect)dirtyRect;
- (BOOL)isFlipped;
- (void)mouseDown:(NSEvent *)theEvent;
- (void)mouseDragged:(NSEvent *)theEvent;
- (void)mouseUp:(NSEvent *)theEvent;
- (void)keyDown:(NSEvent *)theEvent;
- (BOOL)acceptsFirstResponder;
- (BOOL)becomeFirstResponder;
#end
--
#implementation SurfaceView
#synthesize panel;
- (BOOL)acceptsFirstResponder
{
return YES;
};
- (void)keyDown:(NSEvent *)theEvent
{
// this function is never called
};
...
#end
Here's how I create the view:
NSWindow* window = [[NSWindow alloc] initWithContentRect:NSMakeRect(left, top, wide, tall) styleMask:NSBorderlessWindowMask | NSClosableWindowMask | NSMiniaturizableWindowMask backing:NSBackingStoreBuffered defer:NO];
...
[window makeKeyAndOrderFront:nil];
SurfaceView* mainView = [SurfaceView alloc];
[mainView initWithFrame:NSMakeRect(0, 0, wide, tall)];
mainView.panel = panel;
[window setContentView:mainView];
[window setInitialFirstResponder:mainView];
[window setNextResponder:mainView];
[window makeFirstResponder:mainView];
I found out what was preventing the keyDown event from being called. It was the NSBorderlessWindowMask mask, it prevents the window from become the key and main window. So I have created a subclass of NSWindow called BorderlessWindow:
#interface BorderlessWindow : NSWindow
{
}
#end
#implementation BorderlessWindow
- (BOOL)canBecomeKeyWindow
{
return YES;
}
- (BOOL)canBecomeMainWindow
{
return YES;
}
#end
In addition to answer: Check in your IB checkbox for NSWindow.
Title Bar should be checked. It the similar to NSBorderlessWindowMask
In my case I had to override the keyDown method on both NSView and NSWindow (created a customization of both). In the NSWindow in the keyDown override I had to call
- (void) keyDown:(NSEvent *) event {
if (self.firstResponder != self) {
[self.firstResponder keyDown:event];
}
}
to let the event reach the view. Of course I had also to call makeFirstResponder first on the NSWindow and pass the contentView to it :
[window makeFirstResponder: [window contentView] ];

Animation between two UIViewController when I do makeKeyAndVisible

I'm trying to do an animation to switch between two UIViewController that I have. But when the animation runs, the old UIViewController is white.
// viewController is the new UIViewController
[UIView animateWithDuration:0.6
delay:0
options:UIViewAnimationOptionCurveLinear
animations:^(void){
[viewController.view setTransform:CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(0, -460)];
}
completion:^(BOOL finished){
if (finished){
//
}
}
];
[[[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] window] setRootViewController:viewController];
[[[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] window] makeKeyAndVisible];
I have an object which always has the UIViewController:
#interface ManagerViews : NSObject {
UIViewController *oneController;
UIViewController *twoController;
...
}
#property(nonatomic, retain) UIViewController *oneController;
#property(nonatomic, retain) UIViewController *twoController;
...
What am I doing wrong?
Have you tried to set the old UIViewController to "nil" or (my Objective-C expertise is a little rusty) reset?

Trying to understand how to use xib files

I have a custom view that I'm using in a xib file. I load the view and add it to a window. It adds the view just fine as I can see the default text of the labels in the view, but when I try to change the label with a method call, it doesn't change the text.
The custom view isn't anything to fancy, just draws a rounded, transparent background.
NotificationView.h
#import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h>
#interface NotificationView : NSView
#property (weak) IBOutlet NSTextField *primaryLabel;
#property (weak) IBOutlet NSTextField *secondaryLabel;
#property (weak) IBOutlet NSTextField *identifierLabel;
#end
NotificationView.m
#implementation NotificationView
#synthesize primaryLabel;
#synthesize secondaryLabel;
#synthesize identifierLabel;
- (id) initWithFrame:(NSRect)frameRect
{
self = [super initWithFrame:frameRect];
if (self)
{
return self;
}
return nil;
}
- (void)drawRect:(NSRect)dirtyRect
{
NSColor *bgColor = [NSColor colorWithCalibratedWhite:0.0 alpha:0.6];
NSRect rect = NSMakeRect([self bounds].origin.x + 3, [self bounds].origin.y + 3, [self bounds].size.width - 6, [self bounds].size.height - 6);
NSBezierPath *path = [NSBezierPath bezierPathWithRoundedRect:rect xRadius:5.0 yRadius:5.0];
[path addClip];
NSShadow *shadow = [[NSShadow alloc] init];
[shadow setShadowColor:[NSColor redColor]];
[shadow setShadowBlurRadius:2.0f];
[shadow setShadowOffset:NSMakeSize(0.f, -1.f)];
[shadow set];
[bgColor set];
NSRectFill(rect);
[super drawRect:dirtyRect];
}
#end
In the xib I have a custom view set to the type NotificationView. I've added 3 labels to the view and connected them to the above IBOutlets. (I ctrl-click & drag from the label to the .h file to make the connection.)
I'm loading the view and adding it to a window with the following method. It looks through an array of windows, if an existing match is found it used that window, if not it creates a new window.
- (void) popupNotificationWithTag:(NSString *)tag fade:(double)msFade lineOne:(NSString *)lineOneText lineTwo:(NSString *)lineTwoText
{
NotificationWindow *notificationWindow;
NotificationWindow *tmpWindow;
NSEnumerator *enumerator;
// Walk the notification windows in the array
enumerator = [self.notificationWindows objectEnumerator];
if(enumerator)
{
while((tmpWindow = [enumerator nextObject]))
{
if([tmpWindow.tag isEqualToString:tag])
{
notificationWindow = tmpWindow;
}
}
}
// Make a new notification window
if (!notificationWindow)
{
int width = [[NSScreen mainScreen] frame].size.width;
int height = [[NSScreen mainScreen] frame].size.height;
notificationWindow = [[NotificationWindow alloc] initWithRect:NSMakeRect(width - 420, height - 130, 400, 100)];
NSNib *nib = [[NSNib alloc] initWithNibNamed:#"Notification" bundle: nil];
NSArray *objects;
[nib instantiateNibWithOwner:self topLevelObjects:&objects];
for (id obj in objects) {
if ([[obj class] isSubclassOfClass:[NSView class]])
[notificationWindow setContentView:obj];
}
[notificationWindow setTag:tag];
[self.notificationWindows addObject:notificationWindow];
}
// Display window
[notificationWindow makeKeyAndOrderFront:nil];
[notificationWindow display];
notificationWindow.fadeOut = msFade;
[notificationWindow setPrimaryText:lineOneText];

So I assume I'm doing something wrong connecting the labels to the IBOutlets, but I can't figure out what. I suppose I could create the view in code, but I was trying to be good and use the interface builder.
I'm in XCode 4.2.1.

Orientation Problem with more Views and Controller (iPad)

Im writing an App for iPad using Orientation.
The App-Delegate.h has a window, an UIViewController, an UINavigationController and an UITabbarController:
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet LoginRVC *loginRVC;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet ChooseCameraRVC *chooseCameraRVC;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITabBarController *hauptRVC;
Every Controller uses the "shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation"-method to autorotate itself.
i change the views using:
[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL];
and then
[loginRVC.view removeFromSuperview];
[_window addSubview:chooseCameraRVC.view];
and the other way around too, ofc.
So my problem is, when i am in the second view (chooseCameraRVC) and switch the orientation, then go back to my first view, its not rotated. It do autorotate but after the animation is completed.
I tried many things like calling "shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation"-method of all views, not removing the views from window ... but no success til now.
Is this maybe a "feature" of the simulator? (i hope not).
Pls help me.

Ok. I prepared my source code to be presented here.
Note: I didn't copy the methods which only has [super ...] within or are completely commented out.

I hope u can find the problem.
Greetings. $h#rky
now i found my mistake. as u can see i have the views as variables in the app delegate. so if the second view changes the orientation, the other ones didn't know a thing about it. if the view now changes the "new" one recognizes the orientation change AFTER the animation, so while the animation is running, the "new" view has the wrong orientation.
So if u want to switch a view, just create a new one because it gets initialized with the right orientation.
kind regards
$h#rky
For support all orientations your viewcontroller should implement shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation like this:
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation {
return YES;
}
Every viewcontroller should implement this method for support required orientations.
Check also Supported interface orientations item in .plist file. Maybe you have wrong parameters.
Try this in your secondviewcontroller
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
UIViewController *controller = [self.navigationController.viewControllers objectAtIndex:0];
[controller shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:interfaceOrientation];
return YES;
}
Hope it works..!!:)
