Have the project but the original developer, gone to greener pastures, did not provide the password to import the key file for signing the library. What is the best solution to unlock the file?
Contact the original developer.
Failing that, get a new keyfile.

I and another guy are developing an add-in project for PowerPoint using C# and VSTO. Our project is being kept in a repository and every time when one of us gets a newest version from the repository, updated by another one, he gets a compiler problem with signing. Up to now, we solved this compiler problem by generating a test certificate on the corresponding machine every time after updating from repository.
My question is: Is it possible to avoid somehow this every-time generating of a test certificate after taking the solution, compilable on other machine, from the repository in order to have it compilable on both machines?
We tried everything:
We used the same .pfx file for both of our PC's (i.e. we sent this file to the repository).
We tried to uncheck the checkbox "Sign the ClickOnce Manifest" in the Properties window of the Solution and to remove the .pfx file at all.
We tried to use our own .pfx files with putting them into the ignore list.
But there was no result!
We have a similar scenario and we are doing the following:
'Sign the ClickOnce manifest' is signed with a locally generated .pfx key that is checked into the repository.
The assembly is signed with a strong name key.
On the build server the manifest is re-signed using the company's digital certificate for deployment using the instructions provided in this article - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vsto/archive/2009/04/29/signing-and-re-signing-manifests-in-clickonce.aspx
Let me answer my own question. The solution is probably found. The steps are the following:
One developer should generate a new .pfx file defining the password. As a result, he can already develop the add-in correctly, on his machine; but other developer still can not, on their machines.
Using the same tab of the project's "Properties" window, this developer has to select the same .pfx file with the "Select from File..." button, giving the password.
The .pfx file should be sent to the repository (i.e. one shouldn't include it into the ignore list). As a result, other developers will not be required to generate anytime other .pfx files anymore.
We are ready!
The "magic" is that knowing the password by all developers is crucial. When the .pfx file is added to the project as it is described in the item 2, it means that all developers know the password.
I needed to generate a private/public key that is in openssh format to have me integrate subversion repository to IntelliJ. I have used puttyKeygen.exe already to generate a initial key. But while integrating in IntelliJ, its failing me to authenticate with a same Private key.
How can I convert the Putty generated private/public initial key to an openssh format. As I read, that the Subversion integration in IntelliJ uses the Cygwin/openssh format of the private key.
P.S: I have tried puTTykeygen to do the same but no luck! IDEA IDE still fails to authenticate.
Anyone who can shed some light on it would be really helpful.
Thanks!
EDIT
After going through the following steps to create an Openssh private key :
puttygen has a menu: Conversion -> Export OpenSSH Key That will save the private key to the openssh format.
I have again tried integrating the IDEA using the same key that got generated using above mentioned direction. and got myself failed with the same message saying authentication failed!
I am assuming, the key I obtained is either not openssh format or is there anything I am proceeding wrong with a integration. Could anyone please let me know what possibly could be the reason of me not able to integrate subversion in IDEA?
Make sure the initial keys that are put to use are one time generated not repeatedly.
Go to Puttykeygen-> conversions-> import the private key(.ppk file) you have generated initially and then-> export openssh key-> save it to the same location and then go to IDEA and follow the below steps:
1. Go to Version control-> Checkout from Version Control-> Subversion and provide the same key and your passphrase.
2. click checkout by providing your username.
It should work!
I forgot the master-password of my Glassfish 3.1.2.2. Is there a way to reset it? I spent a lot of time "googling around" but i didn't find a suitable answer.
There is a backup password that can be used to access the administrator panel even if you've forgotten the main one.
If you navigate to glassfish\domains\domain1\config\ you will find a file called local-password.
The contents of that file can be used as a password to log in to the control panel as admin.
Please follow the below steps:
Stop the domain
Back up the master password file
Create a new domain and save the master password:
asadmin create-domain --savemasterpassword domain2
Remember the password :-)
Copy the newly created masterpassword file over the old one
Delete the newly created domain:
asadmin delete-domain domain2
FYI, now you should also know why you want to protect the master password file using file permissions :-)
Copy the admin-keyfile from origin install zip (empty password).
This was a big problem for me after inheriting a testing VM from a colleague who left the company. I didn't want to risk creating a new domain as described above and I tried using the contents of local-password file as also described above, but that didn't work for me.
What did work first time was the following on GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 3.1.2.2 (build 5). Change contents of this file:
$GLASSFISH_HOME$\glassfish\domains\domain1\config\admin-keyfile
with:
admin;{SSHA}WQVj8i9CLECCiv+w6ZxGgMrcfPqHPoXZW+2Jdw==;asadmin
I didn't add a newline or carriage return at the end of the line.
This is my modification of an online solution.
For Glassfish 4, after creating domain2 with default passwords, I also had to copy keystore.jks and domain-passwords files along with the master-password before change-master-password would recognise the password.
I need an access to .k12 or .pem files for all https websites I am visiting on Mac OSx machine. Can anyone help me know the path where these files can be found.
Also, need to know a way to decrypt some packets using the key.
There are a couple of ways to get a certificate file in OSX. One way is to export the certificates from Keychain Access. Select Certificates in the Category (lower left) panel, choose Select All from the Edit menu (or hit ⌘A), and then choose Export Items... from the File menu (or hit ⇧⌘E). You can export your certificates as a .p12 file or a .cer file. The problem with this approach is you have to perform these steps periodically to keep your file in sync with the latest updates from Apple.
Another way is to install OpenSSL and use the cert.pem file that comes with it. Similarly, you'll have to keep OpenSSL up to date.
You would simply access the tool named "Keychain Access" in the Utilities folder of your Applications directory.
Once there, you can filter each keychain to only show certificates.
As for decrypting packets using a given key, there are plenty functions doing that within the Security framework, but this question would require clarification (Language requirement etc).
I was looking for this too. I couldn't find the files anywhere so I thought how about exporting them.
From the Keychain Access:
On left pane, click on the KEYS. On right pane, CTRL-Click on the desired certificate.
The Public key should be exported as a PEM file.
The Private Key should be exported as a P12 file.
The Certificate should be exported as a CRT file.
The Private key export option will as for a passphrase and then the user's keychain password. Upon import you will be asked for this passphrase.
NOTE: The private key, contains the public key.
I am new to iPhone and need to generate certificate for my first app which supports APNS. I went through this and this site for help and i also am able to create the certificate but as soon as i append the certificate in my application on Xcode it gives me warning like
"profile doesn't match any valid certificate private key pair in the
default keychain"
I was been given a p12 certificate for development but now i am confused whether i need to use the same certificate or need to generate a new one for a new application? I know this question is asked many a time but i am really stuck at the point.
Kindly show me a path. Thanks in advance.
Make a new certificate request from the keychain tools. Upload that to the provisioning site and download the resulting certificate. Remember, the private key that corresponds to the certificate is embedded within the certificate request, so don't delete it before you export the private key.
Got the solution for the same problem,as i told i already went through all the steps but as per my knowledge what the problem was that the private key given to me was been generated through a windows os and hence was giving some problem. As a solution i deleted the development certificate and created again and solved the issue. Thanks bdares for the help.
