I need to get the time zone for a given address/location. Assume that the address/location can be reverse geocoded (using google) to a lat/lng if necessary.
This means that I may not have a zip code.
I was really hoping that google provided some kind of API for this, but it seems that they don't. At a minimum you can google search for "time in washington, dc" and get the time/TZ -- but then I'd have to screen scrape that which is not fun :(
I know there are databases available that map locations to time zones, but that'd have to be maintained. Has anyone come up with a tricky solution to this problem?
Thanks!
Google provides an API for this.
https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/timezone/<json or xml>?location=<lat>,<lng>×tamp=<unix timestamp>&sensor=<true or false>
eg:
https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/timezone/json?location=39.6034810,-119.6822510×tamp=1331161200&sensor=false
http://www.geonames.org/ provides an API that returns the timezone given a lat/lng
The question needs to be clarified a bit more. What are you doing this for? What language(s) are you using? But how I would approach the problem is: First, create a table like structure that translates longitudes into zones(much like this table ). Next I would query the GMT either locally, or on the web somehow, and finally take the offset from the table and add it to GMT. This way there is no "maintenance" of the table since these longitudes don't change.
I've written a small Java class to do this, with the data structure embedded in the code. If you want to avoid using a web service, and accuracy of 22km is good enough, and you're happy to assume that timezone boundaries don't change, then it could help.

So I have a client that wants to do a Google Ad campaign for certain locations. From what we gathered, you can set up location of interest and pass on a parameter {loc_physical_ms} that can be used to get some details based on that ID. My question is, how do I access that info? Is it by using an API? I did looked at the reference here:
https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/geotargeting
But it is not explained how I can use that ID on my website to get something like the ZIP code and city of the click. I been looking around, but to no avail. Any suggestion is welcome.
Thanks in advance!
Ok, found the solution. So for anyone that may come across this, that link I have above provides you with a CSV with the latest Geo Target list. I was under the impression that Google would provide an API for us to use, but that is not the case here. You will have to import that data into your database, and then use it from there. So once you have that data in your database, you can then just make a query that will use the ID from the parameter {loc_physical_ms} from the database as reference for your query.
I am trying to get the data to create the burned down chart from version one.
I came to know there is no standard api's for that.
Here i found that by making multiple call's to fetch todo value for a scope of timebox it is possible.
Is there any better way to do it?
and also let me know any good open source libraries(javascrpt/java) to plot such graph
i tried the way shown here but i am not able to make out what value i am getting.
i tried a get request like
"base URL"/rest-1.v1/Data/Timebox?where=State.Code='ACTV'&asof"11-25-2015"&sel=Name,EndDate,State,Workitems.ToDo.#Sum
but could only get present value but not the past ones.
Thanks in advance
You are using the rest-1.v1/Data endpoint. From this endpoint you will get the current state of assets in your VersionOne instance however, there is an attribute "Prior" which contains the previous state of a VersionOne asset (Timebox). The most robust way to access historical data is though the rest-1.v1/Hist endpoint. You can find details about Hist queries here.
Using your query
"base URL"/rest-1.v1/Hist/Timebox?where=State.Code='ACTV'&asof"2015-11-25T17:30:00.00"&sel=Name,EndDate,State,Workitems.ToDo.#Sum
The asof keyword will return the state of that Timebox at that instance in time. Observe the proper format of the date.
Using the Souncloud API, I'd like to retrieve the reposted tracks from my activities. The /me/activities endpoint seems suited for this and I tried the different types provided.
However, I didn't find out how to get that data. Does anyone know?
Replace User Id, limit and offset with what you need:
https://api-v2.soundcloud.com/profile/soundcloud:users:41691970?limit=50&offset=0
You could try the following approach:
Get the users that shared a track via /tracks/{id}/shared-to/users endpoint.
Fetch the tracks postet by this user via /tracks endpoint, as the _user_id_ is contained.
Compare the tracks metadata with the one you originally posted.
I am not into the Soundcloud API, but taking a close look at it seems to make this approach at least as technical possible, though e.g. fetching all tracks won't be a production solution, of course. It's more a hint. Perhaps reposting means something totally different in this context.
And the specified entpoint exists in the general api doc, so I don't know if you would have to extend the java-api-wrapper for using it.
I am trying to get some information about the post people do in google plus. In particular I am interested in the "+1"'s.
Either from the google api or directly from the google plus web site you can get the total count and name of the people who did "+1". But, I would be interested in getting the time or timestamp of the "+1"'s. Does anyone knows if it is possible or how can I do that?
Help is always appreciated
Thanks to all,
As you can see at https://developers.google.com/+/api/latest/activities, the only data we return for a +1 is a list of the +1-ers, as well as the total number of people who +1'ed the item you are looking at.
If you would like to request additional data, please file a feature request in our Issue Tracker: https://code.google.com/p/google-plus-platform/issues/list. It would really help if you could be as detailed as possible in the type of data you would like to see and how you would ideally use that data.
If you're dealing with your own website and only care about +1s for pages on your own domain, you could use Google Analytic's social information to see how +1s change over time. You wouldn't get information about who did the +1ing.
I'm trying to find out if there is a programmatic way to determine how far down in a search engine's search results my site shows up for given keywords. For example, my query would provide my domain name, and keywords, and the result would return a say 94 indicating that my site was the 94th result. I'm specifically interested in how to do this with google but also interested in Bing and Yahoo.
No.
There is no programmatic access to such data. People generally roll out their own version of such trackers. Get the Google search page and use regexes to find your position. But now different results are show in different geographies and results are personalize.
gl=us parameter will help you getting results from US, you can change geography accordingly to get the results.
Before creating this from scratch, you may want to save yourself some time (and money) by using a service that does exactly that [and more]: Ginzametrics.
They have a free plan (so you can test if it fits your requirements and check if it's really worth creating your own tool), an API and can even import data from Google Analytics.
