I've got myself in a bit of a pickle!
I've done a snazzy LINQ statement that does the job in my web app, but now I'd like to use this in a stored procedure:
var r = (from p in getautocompleteweightsproducts.tblWeights
where p.MemberId == memberid &&
p.LocationId == locationid
select p);
if (level != "0")
r = r.Where(p => p.MaterialLevel == level);
if (column == "UnitUserField1")
r = r.Where(p => p.UnitUserField1 == acitem);
if (column == "UnitUserField2")
r = r.Where(p => p.UnitUserField2 == acitem);
return r.OrderBy(p => p.LevelNo).ToList();
However, I can't for the life of me get the conditional where clause to work!!
If someone can point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful.
Kind regards
Maybe something like this?
SELECT *
FROM dbo.weights
WHERE member_id = #memberid
AND location_id = #locationid
AND material_level = CASE WHEN #level = '0' THEN material_level
ELSE #level END
AND #acitem = CASE #column WHEN 'UnitUserField1' THEN unit_user_field_1
WHEN 'UnitUserField2' THEN unit_user_field_2
ELSE #acitem END
ORDER BY level_no
Have you tried LinqPAD, I'm pretty sure last time I played with that you could enter "LINQ to SQL" code and see the resulting SQL that produced. Failing that, place a SQL trace/profiler on your code running the LinqTOSQL and find the query being executed in the trace.
LukeH's answer will give you the correct rows, but there is something lost when you try to replace a query-generating-machine with a single query. There are parts of that query that are opaque to the optimizer.
If you need the original queries as-would-have-been-generated-by-linq, there are two options.
Generate every possible query and control which one runs by IF ELSE.
Use Dynamic sql to construct each query (although this trades away many of the benefits of using a stored procedure).
If you do decide to use dynamic sql, you should be aware of the curse and blessings of it.

How can I transform this sql to codeigniter query? I have screenshot of an EER diagram to help you understand better. So there are three tables to join. I guess, one is "pjesma", then "izvodjac", and "izvodi_pjesmu". This sql works when I run it and gives me results I want. I am also using pagination so I need limit and offset somehow included.
SELECT pjesma_id, naslov, naziv
FROM pjesma p, izvodjac i, izvodi_pjesmu ip
WHERE p.pjesma_id = ip.pjesma_pjesma_id
AND i.izvodjac_id = ip.izvodjac_izvodjac_id
in model:
public function paginacija_pjesme($limit, $offset) {
$this->db->select('pjesma_id', 'naslov', 'naziv');
$this->db->from('pjesma p');
$this->db->join('izvodi_pjesmu ip', 'p.pjesma_id=ip.pjesma_pjesma_id');
$this->db->join('izvodjac i', 'i.izvodjac_id=ip.izvodjac_izvodjac_id');
$this->db->limit($limit, $offset);
$query = $this->db->get();
return $query->result();
}
EDIT:
So in select I used wrong syntax, this line:
$this->db->select('pjesma_id', 'naslov', 'naziv');
should be like this:
$this->db->select('pjesma_id, naslov, naziv');
A few things, as you are dealing with objects within the query builder class, you can method-chain and make things a little less cluttered.
You are maybe getting an ambiguous column error, joining and not prefixing your select. Hard to tell without the error being posted you are facing.
Always best to (just in case) set defaults to your method arguments as well, in case you pass a blank variable (or don't need to for whatever reason).
When you are using multiple tables in the FROM statement you are actually doing a CROSS JOIN, and your new code is giving INNER JOIN,trying the join syntax direct to your SQL server might help as you are not actually doing the same thing between your first written query, and the codeigniter one..
Try the below with LEFT join just to see... If there are NULL joins using INNER they will be omitted
public function paginacija_pjesme($limit = 10, $offset = 0) {
$query = $this->db->select('p.pjesma_id, p.naslov, i.naziv')
->from('pjesma p')
->join('izvodi_pjesmu ip', 'p.pjesma_id = ip.pjesma_pjesma_id', 'left')
->join('izvodjac i', 'i.izvodjac_id = ip.izvodjac_izvodjac_id', 'left')
->limit($limit, $offset)
->get();
return $query->result();
}
Are you getting any errors? what do you see if you print_r($query->result()) ?
try also spitting out $this->db->last_query() - this will output the SQL codeigniter has build. Then running this directly to your database, and see the results from there. You might even see the issue without needing to run it.
This is an example of what your current codeigniter code is generating (as you can see, different to your original query):
SELECT pjesma_id, naslov, naziv
FROM pjesma p
INNER JOIN izvodi_pjesmu ip ON p.pjesma_id = ip.pjesma_pjesma_id
INNER JOIN izvodjac i ON i.izvodjac_id = ip.izvodjac_izvodjac_id
# LIMIT 10,0
I have used too much time (days) on this and I really hope someone can help me out.
I found a good article on describing my problem in a generic way so let's stick to it.
I am trying to build this query but NHibernate fails to build the correct sql and returns a sql query exception.
Column vSagsAendring.Id is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause. It could not execute the following query:
select
viewsagsae0_.Id as Id155_,
viewsagsae0_.SagId as SagId155_,
viewsagsae0_.JournalNr as JournalNr155_,
viewsagsae0_.LbfNr as LbfNr155_,
viewsagsae0_.OrgNr as OrgNr155_,
viewsagsae0_.OrgNavn as OrgNavn155_,
viewsagsae0_.AfdNavn as AfdNavn155_,
viewsagsae0_.SagsType as SagsType155_,
viewsagsae0_.Status as Status155_,
viewsagsae0_.SagsbehandlerInit as Sagsbeh10_155_,
viewsagsae0_.Dato as Dato155_,
viewsagsae0_.JournalAktionType as Journal12_155_,
viewsagsae0_.Beskrivelse as Beskriv13_155_,
viewsagsae0_.Ekstern as Ekstern155_
from vSagsAendring viewsagsae0_
group by viewsagsae0_.SagId
var query = from p in _session.Query<ViewSagsAendring>()
group p by p.SagId
into grp
select grp.OrderByDescending(g => g.Dato).First();
This is another version also took from the article:
var query = from p in _session.Query<ViewSagsAendring>()
group p by p.SagId
into grp
let maxDato = grp.Max(g => g.Dato)
from p in grp
where p.Dato == maxDato
select p;
It's have been a long journey, but now it's over. I hope that I can help someone else in the same situation by answering my own question.
var aendring = from sagsAendring in _session.Query<ViewSagsAendring>()
where sagsAendring.Dato ==
(
from innersagsAendring in _session.Query<ViewSagsAendring>()
where innersagsAendring.SagId == sagsAendring.SagId
select innersagsAendring.Dato
).Max()
select sagsAendring;
var result = aendring.ToList();
And because you can chain linq statements you can build a linq filter like this
if(Filters.VisInterneAendringer == false)
query = query.Where(x => x.Ekstern == true);
if (Filters.VisKunNyesteAendringer)
{
query = query.Where(sagsAendring => sagsAendring.Dato ==
(
from innerSagsAendring in Session.Query<ViewSagsAendring>() where innerSagsAendring.SagId == sagsAendring.SagId
select innerSagsAendring.Dato
).Max());
}
return query;
Your queries seem legit for LINQ in EntityFramework.
I'm not sure about hibernate, you might try to use QueryOver API instead of Query
http://nhibernate.info/blog/2009/12/17/queryover-in-nh-3-0.html
I am trying the following code but nhibernate is throwing the following exception:
Expression type 'NhSumExpression' is not supported by this SelectClauseVisitor.
var data =
(
from a in session.Query<Activity>()
where a.Date.Date >= dateFrom.Date && a.Date.Date <= dateTo.Date
group a by new { Date = a.Date.Date, UserId = a.RegisteredUser.ExternalId } into grp
select new ActivityData()
{
UserID = grp.Key.UserId,
Date = grp.Key.Date,
Bet = grp.Sum(a => a.Amount < 0 ? (a.Amount * -1) : 0),
Won = grp.Sum(a => a.Amount > 0 ? (a.Amount) : 0)
}
).ToArray();
I've been looking around and found this answer
But I am not sure what I should use in place of the Projections.Constant being used in that example, and how I should create a group by clause consisting of multiple fields.
It looks like your grouping over multiple columns is correct.
This issue reported in the NHibernate bug tracker is similar: NH-2865 - "Expression type 'NhSumExpression' is not supported by this SelectClauseVisitor."
Problem is that apart from the less-than-helpful error message, it's not really a bug as such. What happens in NH-2865 is that the Sum expression contains something which NHibernate doesn't know how to convert into SQL, which result in this exception being thrown by a later part of the query processing.
So the question is, what does you sum expression contains that NHibernate cannot convert? The thing that jumps to mind is the use of the ternary operator. I believe the NHibernate LINQ provider has support for the ternary operator, but maybe there is something in this particular combination that is problematic.
However, I think your expressions can be written like this instead:
Bet = grp.Sum(a => Math.Min(a.Amount, 0) * -1), // Or Math.Abs() instead of multiplication.
Won = grp.Sum(a => Math.Max(a.Amount, 0))
If that doesn't work, try to use a real simple expression instead, like the following. If that works, we at least know the grouping itself work as expected.
Won = grp.Sum(a => a.Amount)
I'm a newbie at Hibernate so excuse me if some of this is glaringly obvious but it's been a very, very long day. I am trying to create and execute a simple query in Hibernate and Toad/Oracle.
The Toad/Oracle sql reads:
select
count(*)
from
fpps_owner.fee_claim_payment_lines l,
fpps_owner.fee_claim_payments p
where
l.fee_claim_payment_id = p.fee_claim_payment_id and
p.claim_index = 87167895
The above returns 10 records, which is correct
The following Java code returns 0 records, which is NOT correct
String sLinesAvailable =
"select count(*) from " +
"fpps_owner.fee_claim_payment_lines l, fpps_owner.fee_claim_payments p " +
"where " +
"l.fee_claim_payment_id = p.fee_claim_payment_id and p.claim_index = :id";
Query qLinesAvailable = em.createNativeQuery(sLinesAvailable);
qLinesAvailable.setParameter("id", "87167895"); // fails
qLinesAvailable.setParameter("id", 87167895); // fails
List<Object> out = (List<Object>) qLinesAvailable.getResultList();
BigDecimal x = (BigDecimal) out.get(0);
Returns 0 records. Using .getSingleResult() also returns 0 records.
What am I missing here?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
If you are not seeing any malformed query errors, it seems like the parameter is not binding correctly.
To debug, I'd print out that SQL statement the line after you set the parameter. This is the only way you can see the SQL after the parameter is set in order to compare it with Toad.
What does your binding file look like? Maybe you have a different name in there for the ID, so it's not able to find it based on the name. Trying binding with the parameter's order value, just as a test.
This might give some ideas: http://www.mkyong.com/hibernate/hibernate-parameter-binding-examples/
Best of luck! We've all been there :)
What happens when you try:
(Number) query.getSingleResult();
Your query isn't returning a list, but rather just a count.
Good luck.
I have the following SQL query:
SELECT DISTINCT
Participant.BackgroundTrainingID,
Location.TrainingSite
FROM Registration, ProgramLocation, Participant, Program, Location
WHERE ProgramLocation.LocationID = Location.LocationID
AND ProgramLocation.ProgramID=Registration.ProgramID
AND Registration.ParticipantID=Participant.ParticipantId
I wrote the following LINQ to SQL to match the query above:
var trainingsiteinfo = (from c in db.ProgramLocations
from n in db.Registrations
from l in db.Participants
from h in db.Locations
where c.LocationID == h.LocationID
&& c.ProgramID == n.ProgramID
&& n.ParticipantID == l.ParticipantId
select new {
h.TrainingSite,
l.BackgroundTrainingID }).Distinct();
The SQL query works fine but LINQ constantly returns null.
I use Linqer http://www.sqltolinq.com/ when i get out of ideas :-) Aswell it speeds up conversion jobs.
Make sure your db context isn't going out of scope before you have bound your results. You can test this by adding .ToList() after your .Distinct() to force eager loading of the results.
Your linq code has an unclosed } bracket in the select statement
