I've a typical View based application (mainwindow.xib + viewControler.xib) in which I have HIDDEN the status in the AppDelegate file like this...
[[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES];
then I create various subviews on the mainview (mainly UIWebViews) that are full screen positioned at 0,0. Then I created a button that enables you to toggle the view of the statusbar. My problem begins when I show the statusbar and the change the orientation of the screen, the views don't have the full dimension of window and are starting just after the statusbar (at y:20 instead of y:0) and their height is reduced by 20pixel and if I removed the status I can see the blank space.
So the question is this...how can the code ignore the presence of the statusbar and always position new or re-oriented views into 0,0, instead of 0,20 (if the statusbar is shown). I think that the problem is not lying on my main view but in my MainWindow.xib, but I cannot find any solution.
UPDATE1: I am also checking for a solution in the autoresizingmask property of the subviews.

I finally found the solution and I can fall to sleep in peace.
The solution lies in the property wantsFullScreenLayout and you must set it to YES.
So visit your appDelegate that adds your mainview (superview) and add this line:
viewController.wantsFullScreenLayout = YES;
before this line
[window addSubview:viewController.view];
on didFinishLaunchingWithOptions of your AppDelegate.m file.
That way your superview ALWAYS uses fullscreen resolution and doesn't resize if the statusbar is present!

I have a popover with TabBarController in it. In one tab there is a TableViewController with a list of names. And there is a plus button, that has a modal segue to AddCharacterVC for adding new names.
In iOS 7 I do it like this:
AddCharacterViewController *acvc = (AddCharacterViewController *)segue.destinationViewController;
acvc.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleCoverVertical;
acvc.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationCurrentContext;// so it does not take full screen in popover
And in AddCharacterVC I set content size like this:

And it works perfectly.
However, in iOS 8 modal view does not cover the whole popover, leaving TabBar visible. The user can tap on it or not, anyway modal view won't unwind properly.
I've tried:
setting acvc.modalPresentationStyle to UIModalPresentationOverCurrentContext
tried to set TabBar hidden
checked in storyboard that edges of TableVC extend under Bottom Bar and Bottom Bar in Modal View (AddCharacterVC) is set to none
All with no results.
Now the only thing I can think of is to try making modalPresentationStyleCustom and use UIPresentationController (I'm trying to do it now, but I haven't done it before). Am I missing something? Could there be other way to do it? Sorry, I cannot post images here yet. Many thanks in advance!
Ok, so I've set the modalPresentationStile to UIModalPresentationCustom, and used UIPresentationController - I've just copied code from WWDC-14's LookInside project and modified it a bit.
I'm not sure if it was the best solution, but it worked in my case.
In my app I have a TabbarController. One of the tabs opens a View which starts the iPhone camera. This CameraView is part of a SDK which is developed by another company. So I can't modify the class of this CameraView.
My problem is that I have to implement a UINavigationBar in this CameraView. I've solved this through a annotationView (this navigationbar is not handled by a navigationcontroller):
[self.annotationView addSubview:navbar];
All works well except the autoresizing matter. If I turn the phone to landscape mode the navigationbar is too short.
I have already tried to set Autoresizingmask but that doesn't help.
Do you have any ideas how I can force the navigationbar to autoresize?

Try to adjust the frame of the navigationbar manually, instead of using autorotation.

I have an UITabBar in my application. One of the tab bar icons looks like a loading symbol. When the user presses the loading button I want the icon to spin/rotate until the loading is done. Should I use UIImageView to animate or something else? How should I make this happen?
Jacos, unfortunately you cannot do that with the UITabBarController and manipulate the tabBarController's tabBar properties. My best bet would be that you use a UIToolBar and assign a black color and make it appear like a tabBar and have buttons added in them as a subView so that they look like tabBarItems.
Its much more customizable, and you can even provide a scrolling experience and add more buttons to it.

The main point is to get the view for desired UITabBarItem and the get the UIImageView from it in viewDidLoad:
UIView *plusView = self.tabBar.subviews[1];
self.plusImageView = plusView.subviews.firstObject;
self.plusImageView.contentMode = UIViewContentModeCenter;
Then in didSelectItem method you can do this:

My code only rotate the image view for 45 degrees but you can change as you wish.
I guess you could change the UITabBarItem's icon on a timer, but that seems pretty kludgey. You would have to pre-render each frame of your "loading" icon rather than rotate an ImageView.
Another hackey solution would be to add your ImageView to the UIWindow and move it on top of the TabBarController's TabBar (adding it to the TabBar itself is asking for trouble).
You shouldn't try to animate the actual UIImageView within the UITabBarController. I would take this approach:
Set the image for the relevant tab to nil or a blank image.
Create a UIActivityIndicatorView and add it over the tab bar. Position it over the correct tab.
[self.tabBarController.tabBar addSubview:activityIndicatorView];
When your loading task has completed, restore the normal image to the tab and remove the activityIndicator from the tab bar.
The view system in my app is highly customized and uses a number of views that are manually rotated from portrait to landscape based on user interactions (the rotation is done by applying an affine transform to the view/layer).
I want to present a popover inside one of these rotated views, but the orientation of the popover always appears relative to the orientation of the device (i.e., not relative to the view). I'm guessing the answer is no, but just in case someone has a clever idea: is there any way to manually rotate the view that is presented by UIPopoverController?
Sean, I just tested it for kicks, yes it works.
It has to be done (in my case at least) in viewDidAppear (if done in viewWillAppear, it gets knocked back to the original setting.)
This worked just fine (just tested now) to have a popover at a 90 degree angle. i.e in my case my main view is in portrait mode and the popover is turned 90 deg.

Are you trying to rotate the popover or just the content shown in the popover? You can control some of the former by setting which arrow orientations are possible. I'm interested in the latter, and it seems to work just by grabbing the content view controller. E.g.:

DISCLAIMER: If you're at all interested in trying to get your app into the store, this code is almost certainly grounds for rejection. It dives into UIKit's private API's which is a big no-no as far as apple is concerned.
#RunningPink had the right idea. Depending on how the view hierarchy is set up, the popover may be back up farther than two superviews. The popover itself it an instance of the (private) class _UIPopover (at least in iOS 5). You can find this view by doing:

In doing this, I found that transforming the view often ended up making the popover look blurry. I found the reason was that the popover's superview was an instance of another private class called UIDimmingView which is responsible for accepting touches outside of the popover and causing the popover to dismiss. Performing the rotation on the dimming view removed the blurriness I was seeing in the popover.
However, transforming the dimming can result in weirdness where certain parts of the window are not "covered" by the dimming view so the popover will not dismiss if these parts of the window are tapped. To get around this, I applied the rotation to the dimming view, reset the dimming view's frame to cover the screen, and then translated the popover view into place.

Not sure why this happens or how to stop it, my UIToolBar on the details viewcontroller is only visible during portrait view. I want it visible at all orientations. How do I do that? Thank you.
I encountered the same problem by just dragging a UIToolBar on to my view and docking it on the top of the window. It showed up in landscape but not portrait. Interface Builder - at least the one embedded in Xcode 4 - doesn't seem to do the right thing with the resize masks.
While Kshitiz's answer above will work, it has a couple of flaws. As coded, it does not support all four orientations. More importantly, it's not resolution independent.
A better solution is briefly described in enamrik's comment, so credit should go to him/her. Here are the steps:
Select the tool bar in Interface Builder.
Open the Size inspector.
In the Autosizing box, select the left, right and top "i-beams" on the exterior of the square. This keeps the position of the toolbar fixed relative to the sides of the view when the view is resized.
Inside the Autosizing square, select the horizontal line with arrows on both ends. This causes the size of the toolbar to change in sync with the parent view.

Faced the same problem when I add UIPickerView programmatically and add UIToolBar for the PickerView. Just need to add [.flexibleWidth,.flexibleHeight] for the UIPickerView. eg:-
