NSTableView drag items "count badge" - objective-c

When you start dragging items in the table view in Mail or iTunes, you see this count badge neatly showing (in a red "starred" circle, or rounded rectangle if the count gets big enough) the number of dragged items. Is there a ready-made code somewhere available for me to do this? Because if it is, it could save me a whole lot of time writing the drawing code for this myself.

I'm pretty sure there isn't. However it should be pretty easy to create a custom one. It'll be some fiddling with coordinates to get it right but actually shouldn't be too much code.
Maybe google already has some usable image data...

How could I create a horizontal UIPickerView style control?

I want to create a custom UIView that would be equivalent to a horizontal UIPickerView. The data elements, such as "Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Santa Clara, San Jose" would move left to right. The view would be long and thin. 50px in height, 350x in width sort of thing.
I will need to use protocols to obtain my datasource elements likely, but what I'm more interested in figuring out is the visual aspect of this.
How would I animate things left and right? Should I just make one incredibly long view (off screen), and change the frame left and right. This seems like a bad idea, as likely only 3-5 options need to be visible in the control at one time. If the datasource is 100 elements, there is no point in loading the other 95 off screen in a long view.
So perhaps I should load ~9 or something. The 3-5 on screen, plus an additional ~3 left and right. Each time the control is triggered to move left and right, it will load up another element on the view(?).
Is this a good way to achieve this? A long thin view with ~9 UILabel's. As the control moves to the right, I would shift the further left UILabel to move hidden to the far right, and change the UILabel to be the next in the data source.
I also likely want to change the text size based on its position. If it's currently selected, I either want to bold it and possibly increase the font size. How can I gradually achieve this as the view is moved? It would be weird if the text only changed once it was moved perfectly center inside the view. It should likely gradually grow as it gets closer to the middle.
How can I achieve this?
A collection view would do the trick, obviously there's some coding involved.
I'd suggest you to take a look at the code of, or use, the following library.
I've used it once, does almost exactly what you need and works very well:
AKPickerView

UTextView autocomplete vs live suggestions iOS

If I turn the autocorrection ON, the words get autocompleted, as if I write "wor", I get "word" before I finish writing. I don't want this to happen because I might be writing "world" or any word different than the autocompleted one.
I set Correction off in the Interface Builder and this problem is solved.
The problem now is that I still need the suggestions that appear in a little popover below the incomplete words.
This two features might be different but I don't know how to activate the suggestions.
How can I solve this?
This can be solved with the use of tableview. Create a tableview with the width as of the width of the textfield and height as you like. Place it just below the textfield. Make it hidden initially. When the user starts typing, fetch the array of data that resembles to the typed text and if any exists then, unhide the table view. On the subsequent typing keep on reloading the tableview sections with animations. You should be accurate on hiding, unhiding and then reloading the data on the tableview. I have implemented such thing before. It is really easy and once you get started with it you find it easy.
In the UITextView TextViewDidChange I created a thread that changed the cursor position. This, off course happens after the text view changes. The change of the cursor position triggers the autocomplete without letting me even see that there had been a suggestion.

how to make a UIScrollView track something?

i want my app to be able to track a person when he moves 2 dimensionally upwards. I already have a vertical scroll view, and it works, but when i press a button i want it to track a little stick figure as he walks vertically, how can i control this? i thought of setting the scrollview.contentoffset to a certain position, but it just changes it one time when i want it to change it fluidly. i suppose i could make a timer that updates the contentOffSet every like .001 seconds or something, but i thought there maybe a better way.
Also, while i was searching the UIScrollView's methods, one of them was an isTracking method, which is a boolean, and I'm assuming it returns yes if the scrollview is tracking something, so given that i assume there is a feature in scrollview so that you can track things. Also, if to track things you have to use some other framework thing that would be helpful to know too
THANKYOU FOR ANY HELP!
The property tracking tells if the scroll view is currently tracking the user's movement. So that definitely won't help you out. (See David H's post for a better explanation for what the property indicates.)
However, you could use setContentOffset:animated: and set animated to YES. That results in a smooth transition to the new content offset.
Instead of calculating a reasonable content offset you might find it easier to specify an area that contains the stick figure. If so use scrollRectToVisible:animated:. Obviously animated should be set to YES.
1) don't use contentOffset = x;, use "- (void)setContentOffset:(CGPoint)contentOffset animated:(BOOL)animated". Experiment how often you need to send this message, but I'm guessing you can do it no more than 10 times a second and get nice results.
2) isTracking means the user has their finger on the scrollView but has not started dragging it. By testing "isTracking" and "isDragging" you can determine if the user is fiddling with your scrollView or not.

How does the Reeder Mac app animate lists when switching folders?

Initially I was under the impression that it uses the table row slideup/down animations while inserting/deleting new rows but I doubt if it's doing that as it does it so fluidly even with thousands of items in the list (otherwise it would take a lot of time for the deletions/insertions to work).
Am I right in my assumption that it's simply attaching a new instance of the News list at the bottom of the screen, shrinking the above one while the one at the bottom expands to fill up space?
UPDATE:
Please see this video of what I mean: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4960327/ReederAnim.mov
I can not tell you exactly how Silvio Rizzi made this, but as you see in the playback, a list view is added behind the shown list view, and the front list view fades out (.alpha = 0.0;) while the list view behind it expands its height per row.
When you desicate it frame by frame it becomes quite clear what he does, and it is really not that advanced. But I have to admit, with the white "milky" polished interface, it looks quite neat.
In addition, you can see that while animating, the background list view only renders the top 7 entries (hopefully calculated by dividing the view height with the average height of the cells shown) making the list view quick to load. Then afterwards, he can load an extended array of cells once you start scrolling, or in a background thread starting once the animation is complete.

View of scrolling images

I am relatively new to Objective-C and iOS development.
What I want to do is have it that I have an array of length 52 representing a deck of cards, with each value in the array corresponding to a card image. When a button is pressed, the card that comes out will appear in an image view (already done), as well as appear as the right most element in a horizontal scroll view.
I do not however know how to do this in Objective-C, neither the horizontal view nor the appending to the end (or right).
Any help will be much appreciated,
Thank you very much for your time.

What you're looking to do is called Paging with a UIScrollView. Download the "Page Control" Sample project by apple here :
http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#samplecode/PageControl/Introduction/Intro.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/DTS40007795
Think of each page in that project as another card. You can add/subtract from it whilst the program is running. You can take a look at my open source "Dollar Bets" app on github for another example here:
