problem hooking NT dll file functions! - file-io

what is the best tool to track the NT API's.

If you are in the desired process then you can redirect the IAT ( import address table) for the dll that you want to monitor.
If you are not already running code in process then you will also need to find a way to load your code into the desired process.

Microsoft's Detours can help you do this, and it's free.

I don't know if this is on the beam, but try this for Win32. For Native API, I think only about 20% of it is documented.

Does anyone know of a QR Code Reader library for a Windows 8 Metro App?

We're looking to read some QR codes in a Windows 8 Metro app. .NET libraries we've used in the past can't be referenced in WinRT/Metro and porting them won't be easy because they depend on System.Drawing which isn't in the .NET for Metro style apps. We looked at this by Benjamin Soulier but it didn't seem to work. Any other suggestions or something easy we're missing?
Thanks
You can use ZXing.Net:
http://zxingnet.codeplex.com/
For Metro apps based upon HTML5/Javascript I'm currently working on a port of zxing.net for Windows Runtime Components WinMD. You can get the source from here
https://zxingnet.svn.codeplex.com/svn/branches/WINMD
(btw. I'm the creator of ZXing.Net (a port of the java based ZXing))
Based on feedback from MS resources, there is nothing built in and no frameworks they were aware of yet.
Quick way to try is by using Esponce web service. Make a simple HTTP POST request to http://www.esponce.com/api/v3/decode?format=png and send image data in body. Response should contain something like that:
{"content":"here goes content decoded from QR Code"}
Web services are platform-independent (easy to port) and lightweight on client side.

How to trigger a share operation with windows 8

Is it possible to trigger the share action from within a metro style app without using the charm bar?
It's not really recommended, but there is an API available.
// javascript
Windows.ApplicationModel.DataTransfer.DataTransferManager.showShareUI();
// or C#
Windows.ApplicationModel.DataTransfer.DataTransferManager.ShowShareUI();
More info located # http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/windows.applicationmodel.datatransfer.datatransfermanager.showshareui.aspx
the recommended way is to open a share contract and do it via charm.
one reason to doing so is that if all developers do it via charm. user will know exactly where to find the share feature across all app and it helps to keep the whole windows 8 ecosystem clean

Is there a decent, standalone, cross-platform webserver that will work in concert with Autorun on USB Jump Drives?

I'm trying to find a decent standalone webserver that I can load up on a jump drive.
My wife is a photographer, and I'd like to present the clients with their images on usb. When they plug it in, I'd like a web page to load up, and run some jQuery magic to show them a nice carousel of all there images.
So far, this is all fine since it can all be done client side and doesn't need a server at all.
The problem I'm facing is that I'd like some server-side code to be able to read the images out of the directory so that once the interface is built, I don't need to manually create all of the <img /> tags.
If it was primarily going to be used in a Windows environment, I'd have no problem going with IIS Express, since I'm mainly a .NET MVC developer and this would be perfect for me... However, the fact of the matter is that a large amount of our client base is also OS X users.
I did find this Java one jlHttp, and I also found this thread here on SO, but I don't think I understand enough about either one of them to accomplish what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
I'm looking for the same thing, and the two best options I've found were Flying Ant cd web server and Stunnix. Of the two, Flying Ant is cheaper, and I've tested it with success on my project.
I found Mongoose very convenient for this exact purpose. It's crossplatform, lightweight and requires minimum configuration. You may be interested in this project that uses Mongoose to display pictures in a folder tree or FTP directory.
How about Node.js
It says it runs on Linux, OS X, and Windows.

What's the best way to spy on IOCTLs?

I have a U9 Telit modem which, at first, appears as a disk drive on USB bus. Then, the native software after autorun and install, sends a couple of IOCTLs to tell the device to reappear as other things. I can see them in procmon.
I want to better spy on these, to know exactly what they send and how, in order to do the same in proper way.
Try something like Systemtap. Attach a probe that dumps all ioctls and arguments from the kernel, grep through them.
You could use something like strace under linux. The windows equivalent is discussed here Systrace for Windows.
This might show you the ioctl commands sent.
Some companies offer the linux kernels of their devices as direct download from their official webpage. There you might find more information on how it works. For some devices, it's easy to build and deploy your own kernel. This helps as you can add custom debug output.

Adobe AIR+AJAX ftp library

I have just started creating an Adobe AIR+AJAX app which will need to upload and download files from the server using ftp functionality. Right now what is happening is I need to use sockets for this which is way to confusing and difficult to maintain. So, I was wondering if anybody has developed a javascript library or functionality for ftp?
I don't want to rely on any serverside script for this. There is an ftp library for flex but it is quite confusing with not much documentation.
Can anybody help? Thanks,
Gaurav
I'm currently looking for the same thing. So far all I've found is IntegralFTP, which looks fairly comprehensive. The catch is it's $399 for a single developer license.
