Autoconf macros for Apache and conf.d install process? - apache

I have a package that is using the autotools to build and install.
Part of the package is a website that can be run on the local machine.
So in the package there is a .conf file that is meant to be either
copied or linked to the /etc/apache2/conf.d directory. What's the
standard way that packages would do this? If possible, I'd like for
the user not to have an extra step to make the website work. I'd like
to have them install the package and then be able to browse to
http://localhost/newpackage to get up and running.
Also, is there a way that autoconf knows about the apache install or a
standard way through then environment some how? If someone could
point me in the right direction that would be great.

The first thing you should do is to locate the apache extension tool apxs or apxs2 (depends on apache version and/or platform you are building for). After you know where your tool is located you can run queries to get certain apache config params. For example to get system config dir you can run:
apxs2 -q SYSCONFDIR
Here is a snippet of how you can locate apache extension tool: (be careful it may contain syntax errors)

The way to use APXS in your automake Makefile.am would look something like this:

Flatpak Intellij Idea - problem with subversion executable

After installing Intellij Idea using flatpak on Clear Linux I'm not able to make it run svn executable.
I added ---filesystem=host to flatpak permissions and tried to set executable path to /run/host/usr/bin/svn but with no luck (path is available/exists, though Intellij keeps complain)
svn command is normally available from system terminal.
When I try to run /run/host/usr/bin/svn command via Intellij Idea built-in terminal, I've got error that library is not available:
sh-5.0$ /run/host/usr/bin/svn
/run/host/usr/bin/svn: error while loading shared libraries: libsvn_client-1.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I also tried set flatpak-spawn. Following command works perfectly fine in Intellij Idea built-in terminal:
/usr/bin/flatpak-spawn --host /usr/bin/svn, though when set as path to svn executable still gives me Intellij Idea error:
"The path to Subversion executable is probably wrong"
Could anybody please help with making it work?
TLDR: You probably need to add the path to svn into your IntelliJ terminal Path.

It looks like you are having a path issue. I had a similar problem running kubectl running PyCharm installed from a flatpak on Pop_Os.
If I try to run kubectl I see the following:
I have kubectl installed in /usr/local/bin. This is a screenshot from my 'normal' terminal.
In the PyCharm terminal this location is mounting under /run/host/usr/local/bin/.
If I look at my path in the PyCharm terminal, it is not there.
So I'll add the /run/host/usr/local/bin/ to my path and I can then run kubectl:
To make sure this comes up all the time, I need to add the PATH to the Terminal settings:
I can now execute any of the commands in my /usr/local/bin dir.
I found a really ugly solution for dealing with SVN with the JetBrains family, which does actually answer the question. But in a very roundabout way. Unfortunately Alex Nelson's solution didn't work for me.
You would think the Flatpak would come with a valid SVN, since it's actually part of the expected requirements for the program...
When in the terminal, you can run
cd ..
/usr/bin/flatpak-spawn --host vim ./svn
Then press i to go into input mode, then paste the following in the opened text file (Basically what it does is create an executable which passes it to the flatpak-spawn invocation):

/usr/bin/flatpak-spawn --host /usr/bin/svn $#
Save and quit from vim (ESC, then :wq!). Make it executable:
chmod +x svn
Then in IntelliJ's menu, set the "path to svn" to
/home/<yourusername>/IdeaProjects/svn
It's worked for everything I've tried... Hope this helps out anyone else who was struggling with this.
I am using a similar solution to caluga.

exec makes it replace the wrapper script process so the wrapper script process can end.
I'm using /bin/sh instead of /bin/bash as bash features are not needed.
using /usr/bin/env, but maybe not necessary if PATH is set up right.
remember to quote "$#" in case there are spaces in arguments.
I am putting it in ~/.local/bin and referencing it with its absolute path in the IntelliJ settings (Settings -> Version Control -> Subversion -> Path to Subversion executable).
I also was running into problems with IntelliJ saying that /app/idea-IC path does not exist. Figured that something outside the flatpak (i.e. svn or env) was trying to change directory to the working directory from where the wrapper script was invoked (inside the flatpak). Using cd allows the wrapper script to change to a directory that exists both inside the flatpak and on the host.
Fedora Silverblue or toolbox users might want to use dev tools inside their toolbox, in which case you can do:

How to install Apache on OmniOS

I am attempting to install Apache on OmniOS. I followed the instructions here: option 2 https://wiki.openindiana.org/oi/3.+Installing+software+and+package+management

As far as I can tell, the binaries have not been installed
I tried running pkgin -y install apache-2 and it worked. It installed apache-2.4.3. Perhaps apache-2.4.6 does not exist in the repository.
This mean apache is already installed on the Linux system. To run below command which will tell the location of the system binary.
which apache2
for the configuration folder look for below directory:
/etc/apache2

How to install PHP extensions on Cloudbees?

I need to install mbstring (and a few other extensions) for PHP on Cloudbees. Is this possible?
Note that I'm using an updated PHP version as described here:

I don't think scripts have sudo access, so I can't simply use the package manager. I don't think these extensions exist as PEAR packages either. So I'm stumped.
Here is the response from Cloudbees support. Seems to work fine, just make sure you don't have any spaces in your Jenkins build path!
Our provided PHP versions don't have mbstring module activated. You will need to build your own PHP version to get it. To be sure your custom PHP build works on Cloudbees slave, you can build it with a Jenkins job on your instance (with various --with-XXX or --without-XXX options).
We are ourselves doing something like this with a script like

As a side node, you should also take care of specifying a good installation prefix with --prefix. I would choose something like /home/jenkins/tools/php/5.4/.
To store compiled php engine you could generate a tar.gz//bz2 file of target installation directory. Then, store it in your WebDAV directory, which is accessible in /private/{account}/ during a build when "Mount CloudBees DEV#cloud Private WebDav Repository" is checked.
You should add a first step to jobs requiring PHP to extract this archive. As Jenkins workspace is usually cached on DEV#Cloud, you can extract the archive only if it's not already there. That will speed up your build.

Running script in FreeBSD

First steps in FreeBSD: trying to run my installation script. Fast help needed:

Do you have bash installed? If not use FreeBSD Ports to install it. Use where bash to find out.

May it be, that your's configure script doesn't have appropriate executions rights. Try to cast:
chmod 777 configure
If it works, fix it to
chmod 764 configure
configure scripts are ultra portable shell scripts. There is no need for bash here. The problem is somewhere else.
What's the first line in the configure script? Maybe a CR/LF snuck in, which is a common cause for a totally misleading error message saying that the script was not found, when it was the interpreter that was not found.
Please try /bin/sh ./configure
Install the bash package using
pkg add bash
or
make -C /usr/ports/shells/bash install clean
By default FreeBSD comes with tcsh and a POSIX compatible FreeBSD sh
On older FreeBSD systems you will need to do
rehash
before you can run it.
First line of this script (#!/usr/bin/bash, i suppose) should be changed to #!/usr/local/bin/bash.
And of course, you should have shells/bash port installed.

How to install wkhtmltopdf on a linux based (shared hosting) web server

I have tried in all ways to get wkhtmltopdf installed on our web server but unfortunately it is not getting installed. I cannot access user/bin folder as stated in a tutorial on installation.
On the server in public_html folder there is a sub folder _vti_bin, I copied the file wkhtmltopdf-i386 from wkhtmltopdf-0.9.1-static-i386, but I am not able to execute it.
How to install wkhtmltopdf on (shared hosting) web server and get it working?
I've managed to successfully install wkhtmltopdf-amd64 on my shared hosting account without root access.
Here's what i did:
Downloaded the relevant static binary v0.10.0 from here: http://code.google.com/p/wkhtmltopdf/downloads/list
EDIT: The above has moved to here
via ssh on my shared host typed the following:
$ wget {relavant url to binary from link above}
$ tar -xvf {filename of above wget'd file}
you'll then have the binary on your host and will be able to run it regardless of if its in the /usr/bin/ folder or not. (or at least i was able to)
To test:
$ ./wkhtmltopdf-amd64 http://www.example.com example.pdf
Note remember that if you're in the folder in which the executable is, you should probably preface it with ./ just to be sure.

Chances are that without full access to this server (due to being a hosted account) you are going to have problems. I would go so far as to say that I think it is a fruitless endeavor--they have to lock servers down in hosted environments for good reason.
Call your hosting company and make the request to them to install it, but don't expect a good response--they typically won't install very custom items for single users unless there is a really good reason (bug fixes for example).
Lastly, depending on how familiar you are with server administration and what you are paying for server hosting now consider something like http://www.slicehost.com. $20 a month will get you a low grade web server (256 ram) and you can install anything you want. However, if you are running multiple sites or have heavy load the cost will go up as you need larger servers.

Here is how i did it;
Visit https://wkhtmltopdf.org/downloads.html and download the appropriate stable release for Linux. For my case I chose 32-bit
which is wkhtmltox-0.12.4_linux-generic-i386.tar.xz
Unzip to a folder on your local drive.
Upload the folder to public_html (or whichever location fits your need) using an FTP program just like any other file(s)
Change the binary paths in snappy.php file to point the appropriate files in the folder you just uploaded.
Bingo! there you have it. You should be able to generate PDF files.
A few things have changed since the top answers were added. They used to work out for me, but not quite anymore, so I have been hacking around for a bit and came up with the following solution for Ubuntu 16.04. For Ubuntu 14.04, see the comment at the bottom of the answer. Apologies if this doesn't work for shared hosting, but it seems like this is the goto answer for wkhtmltopdf installation instructions in general.

This approach downloads the binary from the website, meaning that you can use the latest version instead of relying on package managers to be updated.
Note that as of today, my solution includes a temporary fix to this bug. I realize that the solution is really not great, but hopefully it can be removed soon. Be sure to check the status of the linked GitHub issue to see if the fix is still necessary when you read this answer!
For Ubuntu 14.04, you will need to downgrade to a different version of libssl. You can find the versions here. Anyways, be sure to consider the implications of downgrading libssl before doing so on any production server.

Version 12.5 of wkhtmltopdf only lists DEB files on their download page now. Being a mac user and not knowing much linux or what DEB files were I couldn't use the solutions posted.
This page helped me get past the knew twist of downloading a DEB file: http://www.g-loaded.eu/2008/01/28/how-to-extract-rpm-or-deb-packages/
Basically what I did was:
Downloaded from https://wkhtmltopdf.org/downloads.html
Unzipped the DEB file.
Unzipped data.tar.xz
Uploaded the binary in the unzipped 'usr' folder from step 3 (usr/local/bin/wkhtmltopdf)
Then I found out that the 'exec' function was disabled on my host. So make sure you can specifically run 'exec' if you're using PHP to run this. "Can I run the wkhtmltopdf binary" isn't specific enough. My fault.
