Controlling 3rd party program - vb.net

Hi my program launches a 3rd party program with a few switches to update itself.
Once these updates are complete I need to manually click save from the applications menu. This can be done via the keyboard (Alt Gr + M then Alt Gr + S)
The application will take several seconds to load at which point the application will open maximised and the save option will be enabled.
Can anyone suggest a method or example for doing such a thing? Monitoring a lauched process? Macro?
Thanks.

I imagine that the most stable way of achieving this is to try to find out which message that is posted to the window when the save command is invoked. Then you can p/invoke SendMessage to send that message to the application window. That way you will not rely on that window being active for the command to be carried out properly.

Halt code at dialog (msgbox()) command in IDE

Title quite much says it all.
In VB6, and in VBA/Access it was possible to hit break key, and jump into debug mode when using the msgbox() command.
Is there a way to do this in vb.net (desktop/winforms) applications?
Often, some code will toss up a dialog box, and it is rather nice then to jump into debug mode as a result of that message box having been displayed.
Edit
Ok, hitting pause button in most applications work, but in this application, when I hit pause, then I get this:
Edit two:
Ok, I have discovered the reason for this behavior. I have the application Frame work box un-checked. The reason for this is I did't want to specify the main application form as startup form, and I desired additional control over what occurs if the main startup form (that I don't specify) is closed. Thus, my main application form is launched via application.Run(my form)
It thus seems that due to starting the main form as a new separate application thread (which is the result of using application.Run(), then you can't use ctrl-break, or more common use/hit the pause button in the IDE to halt the code. Hitting pause will thus display that the application is running a main app thread, which indeed is the case since I use applicaiton.Run() to launch the main form from the classic and traditional Sub Main().
Edit 3
A way to fix this, and enable the pause key to work is to un-check in tools->debugging the [ ] Enable Just My Code. This will thus allow debug mode of the other "main" application thread.
Hmm. [CTRL][BREAK] clears the dialog box. However, clicking the pause button in the IDE will do what you want.
Alternatively, select Debug > Break All from the menu.

App modeller, Identify button not showing up in blueprism spying

I am creating calculator VBO in blueprism object studio.
In application modeller I gave calc.exe path and able to launch calculator, but I am not getting identify option to spy on any element..
In Element, After clicking Launch buttion, identify is appearing for a split of sec and Launch button is coming back instead of Identify
PS- As mentioned in videos and links, I have launched calc via application modeller not directly via windows..
I am using windows 10, BluePrism V.5.0.11.0 versionenter image description here
Windows 10 calculator is complicated case, please consider using different application in your training. For example paint is much simpler to get started.
If you really need to get that going, then you may need to launch application first, using one object, and afterwards use second object to attach and interact with it.
can be two reasons
1. Either your application is not launched properly.
2. Sometimes we face problems with some versions of applications.
The best way to fix your problem is
Edit your settings remove the application path from the navigate stage.
Launch the application separately
Open Navigate stage > Action > Attach
Provide the window title within quotes (example: "Calculator")
Click OK then run the object
Now if you go to application modeller
You will be able to see the identify button under the element.
Hope this will help you.
I resolved this by unchecking "Disable invasive techniques (hooking)".
The Windows 10 calculator runs with process name win32calc which is also located under c:\windows\system32.
So when you launch the application please make you identify the applications process name and its location
I resolved this by circumventing to windows 7 calculator instead of a windows 10 calculator on windows 10.
Link to download win 7 calculator for win 10-

This will be installed in the same place as your default calculator.
Inside-
C:\Windows\System32
The name of the app in my case was "calc1.exe" to avoid collisions with the default calculator.
I used this as my base reference app for spying and it worked.
Also note, the hover to highlight button seems to be a bit buggy, try a bit hit and trail to get you required button to be highlighted and mark using "Ctrl+LeftClick"

Kill application not Process - VB

I have a program that out of my control will bring up a message box (I didn't write or have source code)
I am trying to find out if it is possible to write a program (visual studio) that can at a set time, say every 10 minutes close all open applications(msgbox) but keep the process going? The application/task name is different to the process name.
It runs on XP and 7.
I've tried google but haven't managed to find what I'm after, all i can find is process kill. Not 100% sure on correct terminology.
You might be better-off writing a program that finds a current open dialog (window, messagebox, etc) and closing it. Sending an Esc keystroke is a pretty easy approach. Here is another SO article that talks about doing this: How to send a mouse click event to a hidden window?

How to simulate mouse clicks?

I was wondering how to create a sort of auto clicker using VB.NET.
I would basicly have the click coordinates pre-defined and the clicks, which would have to be separated by delays I guess since I want more than one to happen periodically, would happen outside of the application window (I read this envolves extra system hooks?).
The only code I have been able to find is related to clicks on the application window, which is not what I am looking for.
In short: I want to click a button on the app window, which would initiate a number of clicks on certain pre-defined screen coordinates.
Thanks in advance :)
See this discussion on social.msdn: Simulate a mouse click in a program.
Uses winapi: SetCursorPos, GetCursorPos and mouse_event.
I believe you need to P/Invoke into Windows to accomplish this.
Have a look at the SendInput function.
If you are using automate the program,that program have some tabindex in order to relevant control.then you can use;
SendKeys.Send("{TAB}");
SendKeys.Send("{ENTER}");
it is more accurate on desktop application

How can I send clicks or keys from a VB6 app to an Excel dialog box?

My employer has purchased a third-party tool, OfficeConverter from Conveter Technology that automates the conversion / repair of Office 2003-formatted files to Office 2007 format. This tool also highly automates the translation / change in macro / VBA code requirements between Office 2003 and 2007 formats.
My problem is that during this conversion the tool is opening the targeted Office product, say Excel and is then opening the target user file (ie. Report.xls) and is then examining any VBA / macro code for change requirements. The problem is that IF the Excel file code is dependent upon some external tool like an .OCX file and if that tool doesn't exist on the PC that I'm performing this action on, Excel will pop up a message that the Object has not been found, stopping the entire conversion process (thousands of files in a row) until someone comes along and MANUALLY clicks the appropriate button to close the dialogue box.
I figured that creating a small watching application in VB6 (hey, I'm old and my skills are too) could sit on the same PC and watch for these dialogue boxes and, depending on the specific message, click the appropriate button via the SendMessage API call.
The problem is that I haven't been able to get SendMessage to actually PUSH the button for me, I've tried sending it the Return key value (vbKeyReturn) or even the Space key (vbKeySpace) but the action never results in the dialogue box closing like it should. I can get the focus to tab between whichever buttons on the dialogue box are enabled, but that is about it.
I've attempted to use SendKeys, but that is far less reliable and strongly discouraged in the current documentation that I've come across.
Any suggestions? :)
If you have the hWnd for the button, and the machine is unattended, you can easily use MouseEvent to move the cursor over the button and click it. This sample includes a drop-in ready module that'll do the dirty work for you given just the window handle:
http://vb.mvps.org/samples/MouseEvent
Otherwise, the most straightforward way is probably to just send WM_LBUTTONDOWN and WM_LBUTTONUP sequentially.
EDIT: If you "just want to get it done" take Jim's advice and try Gary Chanson's Window Demon tool.

Karl: how quickly we forget our pals!
I would suggest taking a look at AutoIt.
It is perfect for this task, look for a window with a particular text on it and click a button.
Runs in the system tray as a standalone application.
