Question:
Anyone know what setting in my user profile will make Ektron always load the last active work area location? If not, is there a way to load a specific folder every time?
Already Tried:
"Set smart desktop as the start location in the workarea." doesn't seem to do anything.
Why:
I'm primarily a designer, so I'm usually just replacing files in the library and leaving the content area to the developers. It's kind of annoying that the content area always loads first because the folder structure looks the same and many times I actually navigate to the content folder instead of the library folder. This is a waste of time because Ektron is so slow. It would be really helpful to load the last active location in the area or at least the library files first.
Thanks!
The short answer is no. At least, not in any way that would be supported by Ektron or be upgrade-safe (upgrades would likely destroy changes made to include this functionality).
The long answer is that the Workarea code source is available and a .NET developer who wanted to parse through it and figure it out would probably be able to do so. It would require adding a user property / cookie to store their last activity (at the desired level of specificity) and then update any and all related code files that would automatically take them to any given recorded location. It would be inadvisable due to the effort required and for the upgrade-related reasoning above.
THAT BEING SAID - Ektron's Workarea uses Frames and you may be able to bookmark one of those internal frames or else create your own set of frames in your own HTML that would load up the view that you want. Depends on whether it's important enough to you to put in the effort to figure those things out by inspecting enough of the client-side code.
I want to know who (Windows username)created and who have modified a particular qlikview file. I have checked the xml files created from the qvw file using the -prj method, but there is nothing related to that. There is also a file with .dat extension which might have storing this information. Can anyone help me in reading that dat file.
A better way of doing this in the future is to implement a source control system, you are out of luck with Qlikview as it does not capture this information.
The author and/or last changed user name is not part of the default
metadata inserted into the document. So unless something similar to
the suggestions above was already in the document, there will be no
way of determining who was responsible.

A better place to look is your windows environment and see if the information is held in a back-up.
I've been trying for a while now to get a reference file to be loaded externally to no avail.
To be specific I am trying to load a "Microsoft Date and Time Picker Control 6.0(SP4)" which usually resides in C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCT2.OCX
However some people that run a macro containing this element don't have that "MSCOMCT2.OCX" file on their PCs so I thought I will move the MSCOMCT2.OCX to a shared location and reference the code to use the shared one instead (so everyone will have access to it)
I tried doing that but when I was trying to load a reference with "Browse" from a different location it didn't load it - because I already had that in C:..
So I thought OK... I will remove the file from C:\ so I can only reference the shared file. - so I deleted it.
So I open the workbook again and look at references - I cant find "Microsotft Windows Common Controls-2.6.0(SP4)" - great!
And I proceed to add it manually with Browse from the shared drive.
When I do that however 2 references of "Microsotft Windows Common Controls-2.6.0(SP4)" are being added - 1 from C:\(which is not there) and 1 from the shared drive.
The one from C:\ is always automatically selected.
If I try to disable the one from C:\ and enable the one from the shared drive it automatically changes back to what it was when i press OK.
If I try to enable both - it says duplicate References and keeps only the one from C:\
So.. does anybody know how can I get rid of that C:\ reference from the list so it doesn't get loaded? Apparently deleting the files themselves did not work.
Ultimately my goal is to enable people without C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCT2.OCX file to be able to use my Date Picker Tool.
Thanks a lot!
ActiveX control rereferences are always GUID-based. The VB IDE shows you the current location of the file as listed in the registry on your computer, as a courtesy, but it really doesn't matter what it says. The control will be loaded from wherever it was registered on the user's computer.
That's the key: the control must be registered on the user's computer.
I must strongly discourage you from doing what you're trying to do. You might be able to concoct a method by which you load the DLL from a network location, but it presents no advantage over doing the Right Thing(TM), and plenty of problems. The Right Thing is simply that if you need that control, you must distribute and register it with your application, just like everybody else does. And you really should install it in the recommended location for it (System32); not on the network.
Here's a quick example of what can go wrong: you provide your user with you app, and it works with the control on the network like you want it. Then the user installs another application that happens to need the same control. The app's installer sees that the control is already registered on the user's computer, so it doesn't try to add it again. Except that this particular app is intended to be used when the user is not connected to a network. Now you just broke someone else's program.
The VB/VBA architecture was never intended to support XCOPY deployment. I'm know it's a pain and that these extra steps are extremely inconvenient when you're just trying to deploy a "macro". Sadly, it's the nature of the beast. I'm sorry
I'm trying to use FSEvents to detect when files were added/removed from a specific folder. For the moment, I implemented a simple wrapper around FSEvents, and it works fine : I get all the events.
BUT the problem I have now is that when I rename a file in the Finder, I catch 2 distinct events : the first one of type "renamed" with the old file name, and another one with "renamed" and the new filename. The event ids are different between both calls.
So, how am I supposed to know which "renamed" event contains the old name, and which event contains the old one ?? I tried looking in the documentation, but unfortunately, kFSEventStreamEventFlagItemRenamed is not documented ... it seems new in Lion.
PS: the only way I could think of was : on a renamed event, I check my UI to see if I have an item corresponding to the event path. If so, I flag it for renaming. If not, I check if an item was flagged for renaming, and if so, then I rename it to the new event path. But I really don't like this idea ...
Edit: Ok, I imlemented something along the line of my "PS" : I noticed that when renaming something, the ids of the 2 events are consecutives, so that with the id of the event containing the new name, I can get the event containing the old name. I simply use a little dictionnary in my interface to store ids and associated paths in the case of a "renamed" event.
Anyway, I can now catch rename events, and even move events : when you move a file, it's a "renamed" event which is caught by the FSEventStream ...
But, I still have one last problem : deleting. When I delete something, it's moved to the recycle bin : I receive a "renamed" event. But the problem is that I don't receive the second rename event. Only a "modified" event on the .DS_Store file. I think this file is used by the Finder to know which files are in the bin, etc. So I could check modification to this file, and get the last "renamed" event to detect that a file was sent to the bin. But I'm using TotalFinder which uses Asepsis, which modifies the way the Finder stores .DS_Store files : I no longer receive "modified" on this.
To sumarize : I can't detect when a file is sent to the bin ...
Any idea how I can do that ? Maybe use something else than FSEvents to catch only this event ?
Well, I didn't find the perfect answer to my question, but I found a solution which I eventually was really satisfied with, so I thought I might share ^^
As I said, when moving stuff to the trash, if you're only watching 1 folder, you won't catch the event generated when the image is put in the trash. So, I decided to do the following :
I have a class which creates a stream on the root folder ("/") so that it will catch all the events -> this solves the problem of files being sent to the trash, and all such stuff. Then, this class allow to register delegates on certain pathes. So, instead of creating many streams, I create one big stream, then filter events as needed, and I create many delegates.
So all I have to do now when I want to watch events on a special folder is the following :
[[FSEventsListener instance] addListener:self forPath:somePath];
I just have to create an instance of FSEventListener at application start, and release it when the app stops.
And I just need to implement the following 3 methods which will be automatically called :
-(void)fileWasAdded:(NSString *)file;
-(void)fileWasRemoved:(NSString *)file;
-(void)fileWasRenamed:(NSString *)oldFile to:(NSString *)newFile;
If you're interested in the source code of this little utility, you can check here : http://blog.pcitron.fr/tools/macosx-imageviewer/ (the utility was added at the version 0.8)
I developed it as part of a a little image viewer to keep the UI synchronized with the disk content (it displays the number of images contained in each directories, etc.) The source code is available, and the utility is in Utils/FSEventsListener.h/.m.
And if by any chance someone actually downloads the application and take a look at the sources, if you find anything usefull (performance / feature improvement, whatever) feel free to drop a comment / mail ^^
You are actually raising two issues related to FSEvents and renames.
1. A file is renamed and both the old and new file names are within the directory trees being monitored.
2. A file is renamed and one of the names is not in the directory trees being monitored.
You have solved (almost) the first issue. It is also necessary to provide your application with a means of knowing which events are being reported in the same FSEvent group of events. Your method of knowing that two renames are reported consecutively only works if they are within the same group of events being reported within the same latency period. If two rename events of type 2 occur one after another but are not within the same group of events being reported in the same latency group, they actually have nothing to do with each other - and you will mistakenly think one file has be renamed to another.
It is possible to handle the second type of rename by simply monitoring every directory in the system using the root, but this will flood you with many unnecessary events. You can determine if a "partial" rename is the result of a file being moved out of the directory tree being monitored or into the directory tree being monitored by doing a stat() on the file. If stat() fails with an errno of 2, then the file has been moved outside the directory being monitored, and it can be treated as if it has been deleted. If stat() succeeds, the event can be treated as if the file has been created.
I am currently developing a service using the SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model to programmatically upload Excel worksheets to a Drop Off Library and then set the properties on the file. This process is working well. However, the Drop Off Library is governed by Content Organizer Rules that aren't being applied to the uploaded file. I have examined every property I thought I could have missed:
ContentTypeId is being properly set
_ModerationStatus is being set to 0
The two properties required to invoke the rule are being set to valid values
Update is being called on the ListItem
The file is checked in after the ListItem is updated
The list doesn't have minor versioning enabled so I don't make any calls to publish.
What's most frustrating is that if I edit the document properties using the Web UI and check it back in without making any changes, the file is moved to its final location. What might I have overlooked that is preventing Content Organizer Rules from being applied to newly uploaded files when using SP2010 COM?
The ultimate answer to this question turned out to be that everything was indeed being set correctly. However, one cannot force the evaluation of content management rules programmatically. The information I required was provided by a post from Steve Curran on this MSDN thread.
In SharePoint 2010 Central Administration under the "Monitoring" section there is a control panel for "Timer Jobs" that includes an item to "Review job definitions." On this panel, there should be a job named "Content Organizer Processing." This is a nightly task that will run and clean up content according to the rules you have established in your site. After uploading a file to the drop off library programmatically, you will likely find that hitting the "Run Now" button for this job will cause the file to be moved to its final destination if the properties are set correctly.
The solution was to change the frequency of this job under the Recurring Schedule section from a nightly process to one that is executed every 15 minutes (or whatever interval you determine will work best).
A word of caution: Be certain to note that if you send automated e-mail to the site administrator or a mailing list when files are left in the drop off library that do not have their properties set correctly, these will start arriving with the same frequency as the job's execution.
This article may help.
Basically, it does not appear to be supported in the 2010 COM so you have to work around it, unfortunately.
