Powershell Transcript is empty when running script from SQL Agent Job in 2005 SQL Server - sql-server-2005

I have a complex Powershell script that gets run as part of a SQL 2005 Server Agent Job. The script works fine, but it uses the "Start-Transcript $strLogfile -Append" command to log all of it's actions to a transcript file. The problem is that the transcript is always empty. It adds the header and footer to indicate that the transcript is starting and stopping, but it doesn't actually log anything. Example:

When I execute the script from a command prompt or start -> run everything works just fine. Here is the command used to run the script (same command used in the Operating system CmdExec step of the SQL Agent Job)
powershell.exe -File "c:\temp\Backup\backup script.ps1"
I first thought it must have something to do with the script running under the System account (default SQL Agent account), but even when I tried changing the SQL Agent to run under my own personal account it still created a blank transcript.
Is there any way to get PowerShell Transcripts to work when executing them as part of a 2005 SQL Server Agent Job?

If your script uses native commands (console exes), Start-Transript does not log any of that output. This issue has been logged on Connect, you can vote on it. One way to capture all input is to use cmd.exe:
cmd /c powershell.exe -file "C:\temp\backup script.ps1" > backup.log

sqlps.exe does not implement certain methods including the method that supports write-host. This may explain why you are not seeing output using Start-Transcript when running sqlps.exe from a SQL Agent Powershell jobstep. I am still not sure why the Powershell Transcript is empty, but we found a workaround. Under the CmdExec step of the SQL Job there is an advance option to capture the output to a file, which combined with the "Append output to existing file" option and using a Logfile.rtf extension is about the same as the Powershell transcript. This way anything that gets printed to the host from the Powershell script (including native console executables piped to "| out-host") will be captured in the log file.

Can anyone help me with run command to open PowerShell as different user?
Currently I am trying to run below command
Runas /noprofile /user:domain\username powershell
It works but I have to provide password once powershell window opens, is there any way where I can directly put password in run command?

You could try schtasks.exe. You can get the help using schtasks.exe /?

There is an in-built cmdlet available in PowerShell Register-ScheduledTask, but its depended on OS and is available only from Windows Server 2012 onwards.

SQL Schema Compare from one SQL version to another not working

In Visual Studio (2013 or 2015, they both do the same) > SQL Schema Compare, I am trying to copy the schema from one database on sql 2008, to databases on sql 2014. From 2008 -> 2008 works fine, 2014->2014 works fine, but when trying to go from 2008->2014, it does not work. After running the compare and hitting update it just sits on "Schema Compare generate script (db1 > db2) until it eventually freezes and visual studio just says it is busy, and never finishes. I can not find a log that explains what point it gets stuck on either.
Under options I have tried to ignore compatibility issues but this does not fix it. Any suggestions?
That might be a schema compare bug. I'd suggest first ensuring that you're using the latest version of the SQL Server tools (available for download here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt204009.aspx)
Then, if the problem still persists, I'd suggest capturing a trace log using the below instructions and opening a Connect issue that describes the problem and includes the trace log at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/CreateFeedback.aspx using the category "Developer Tools (SSDT, BIDS, etc.)"
Gathering an Event Log for SSDT
Open a new command prompt as Administrator.
Run this command logman create trace -n DacFxDebug -p "Microsoft-SQLServerDataTools" 0x800 -o "%LOCALAPPDATA%\DacFxDebug.etl" -ets
Then run this command: logman create trace -n SSDTDebug -p "Microsoft-SQLServerDataToolsVS" 0x800 -o "%LOCALAPPDATA%\SSDTDebug.etl" -ets
Run SSDT and reproduce the issue.
Go back to the command prompt and run the following commands:
logman stop DacFxDebug -ets
logman stop SSDTDebug -ets
The resulting ETL files will be located at %LOCALAPPDATA%\SSDTDebug.etl & %LOCALAPPDATA%\DacFxDebug.etl.
Instead of hitting "Update" try "Generate Script", and then run the script on the destination database.

Scheduling a pentaho job in SQL server agent

I have built out a simple FTP job in Pentaho that places a file in a local directory. I need to be able to call this job in a SQL server agent job which I can then schedule and use, but when I set the agent job up it runs through the steps successfully but does not produce anything to show that it was in fact successful.
I am pretty confident the Pentaho job itself is fine because it can be run through the UI, command line, and .bat file. Everything works as expected except when I try to make this SQL Server Agent job and I have no idea why!
Here is the only step in the job When I use this i'm prompted with no errors but nothing actually happens. If I try to enclose it in quotes I get an error.

Figured it out!
Apparently, only the first line of the command was executing. So it was navigating to a different directory but not executing any commands. I remedied this by putting everything on one line and adding a && to it.
Command line used: cd c:\pentaho\data-integration && kitchen.bat /file:C:\pentaho\Jobs\BW\FTP_BW_TRN.kjb /level:Basic

Teradata client on Unix Solaris

I deploy some .bteq and .sql scripts on a TERADATA database. For doing this, I use a client on my desktop called BTEQWin version 13.10.0.03.
I get the .bteq/.sql from a version control like pvcs/svn etc and all I do once the files are in my workspace folder (from Version control tool), to just drag and drop the files from Windows browser to BTEQWin client (which I connect to a database prior to drag/drop for running those scripts).
Now, I have to automate this whole process in UNIX.
I have written a SHELL KSH/BASH script which is getting all the .bteq/.sql from a TAG/LABEL in the version control tool to a given UNIX folder. Now, all I need to do is the pass these files one by one (i'll take care of the order) to Teradata client.

- what client do I need to tell Unix admin team to install on Unix server - so that I can run something like below:
someTeraDataCommand -u username -p password -h hostname -d database -f filenametoexectue | tee output_filename.log
Where, someTeraDataCommand is the client / executable - which will let me run Teradata scripts (like I was doing using BTEQWin on my desktop - GUI session). Other parameters can be username, password, which database to connect on what server and which file to run or make that file passed to the command using "<" operator at command line.

Assuming the complete Teradata Tools and Utilities package is installed on your UNIX server (which will have the connectivity tools to talk to Teradata), you should have access to bteq from the command line. Something like this:
bteq < script_file > output_file
Your script file should contain a .LOGON statement to establish the connection:
.LOGON yourTDPID/your_account,your_pw
You might also need to use other commands to set your default database or non-default session values.
Another option would be to combine the SQL and call to BTEQ in a Korn shell script:

The double hyphen indicates a single line comment. Typically in a UNIX script you do not leave your password in plain text of a KSH script. The .RUN command would reference a text file in a barely sufficient secure location containing the .LOGON {TPDID}/{USERID},{PWD}; command.
The .RUN command in BTEQ allows you to reference another text file containing a series of valid BTEQ commands that you want to run in the current BTEQ script.
Easiest way is to setup the Solaris TTU, is to request root sudo, and run an interactive installation into defaults as a root. That would cure all client issues.

How to run a CruiseControl task as an administrator in Windows Server 2008

I'm currently using CruiseControl.NET to automate my build. We have two different ways to build a solution in my build environment - one is through the Keil uVision4 IDE, the other is through Visual Studio 2008.
I've successfully gotten the Visual Studio solution to build properly using CruiseControl.NET and have created a batch file which properly uses Keil's uVision command line interface to compile my uvproj Project (compilation details here).
Problem Description
1) I can successfully execute the build script on my Windows 2008 server and build the project if I create a command prompt with administrator privileges (I'm doing this manually - start -> run -> cmd with ctrl-shift-enter to run as admin).
2) However, if I create a command prompt without administrator privileges, and attempt to execute the batch file, the batch file won't work unless I accept the prompt asking me to confirm admin rights are required to run the batch script.
How do I automatically execute a batch file as an administrator through CruiseControl?
Is this something that could be automated using the RunAs command?
Technical details
1) The batch file being executed is pretty simple - it deletes the old output and re-makes the output, creating a build log file in the location below.

Can you run CCService, the CruiseControl.NET Windows Service, as a user who has administrative permissions? I'd try that first.
If that doesn't work, I would use runas to run your script. You'll have to embed the administrative user's password in the script calling runas.

Normally I create this and call it to call other processes "As Admin".
Make a ".VBS" script with This in the contents:

That could be an option to people that can't find an official way
You could try psExec from sysinternals. If you don't need to run as a nt-authority account you should be able to use this in the same way as runas.
It allows you to pass in the username/password as a switch (if memory serves)
I have Discovered that when using PSEXEC and using the -h switch, it then "runs as admin" on destination
e.g.
