ASP.Net: Element <name> Is Not A Known Element - vb.net

I've been trying to use the AutoComplete Extender from the ASP.NET Ajax Control Toolkit, however I've been having tons of trouble getting it to actually work.
To install the AjaxControlToolKit, I've placed it inside my application's bin directoy, then I just dragged and dropped the control into the form. However, it keeps saying,
"Element 'AutoCompleteExtender' Is Not A Known Element"
So at first, I thought I had not registered it yet, but when I looked at the header, it was already there:
<%# Register Assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" Namespace="System.Web.UI" TagPrefix="asp" %>
<%# Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" tagprefix="ajaxToolkit"%>
So I'm not sure at all, why its still giving me problems.
Other assembly files in my bin folder include:
System.Web.Extensions.ddl
System.Web.Extensions.Design.dll
Here's my code:
<asp:TextBox ID="txtOrganization" runat="server" Width ="500px" MaxLength ="250"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server">
<Services>
<asp:ServiceReference Path="AutoComplete.asmx" />
</Services>
</asp:ScriptManager>
<ajaxToolkit:AutoCompleteExtender runat="server" TargetControlID="txtOrganization" ServiceMethod="GetOrganizationList" ServicePath="AutoComplete.asmx"></ajaxToolkit:AutoCompleteExtender>

I fixed it and got it working. I had to make changes to my aspx page and my web.config.
ASPX:
Added this to the top of my page:
<%# Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" tagprefix="ajaxToolkit"%>
My control now looks like this:
<asp:TextBox ID="txtOrganization" runat="server" Width ="500px" MaxLength ="250"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" >
<Services>
<asp:ServiceReference Path="AutoComplete.asmx" />
</Services>
</asp:ScriptManager>
<ajaxToolkit:AutoCompleteExtender runat="server" ID="AutoComplete1"
TargetControlID="txtOrganization"
ServicePath="AutoComplete.asmx" ServiceMethod="GetOrganizationList"
MinimumPrefixLength="1" EnableCaching="true"
FirstRowSelected="true">
</ajaxToolkit:AutoCompleteExtender>
As for my web.config, I added the following:

Originally, since I'm using asp.net 2.0, the version numbers of System.Web.Extensions was 1.6.... So I had to change it all to 3.5.0.0.
Also, while searching for a solution, alot of people said I had to put a copy of System.Web.Extensions.dll and System.Web.Extensions.Design.dll into the bin folder. I didn't have to do this, I just merely added a reference to them.

Did you add a reference to it for the project?
Right click on the project from within Visual Studio...Hit Properties
Next to references you should see the AjaxControlToolkit in there...
If not, hit Add...got to Browse tab and select it.
I assume no other controls work?

Did you place a ScriptManager at the top of the page? You have to do this to get the Toolkit controls to work properly.
EDIT: There are many potential causes of this problem; you did not install the AJAX toolkit correctly, there are compilation errors in your site, etc. One of the more common problems is that you need to declare the toolkit in your web.config file. Inside the pages tag, add the following:
<controls>
<add tagPrefix="ajaxToolkit" namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" assembly="AjaxControlToolkit"/>
</controls>

All my view models have become dynamic on upgrading to MVC 4 (razor)

Can anyone help me rectify an issue. I've upgraded from MVC3 to MVC4 using NuGet method in Visual Studio 2012. Now all my views' View Models have become Dynamic even though I declare their type, none of the properties can be accessed through intellisense on the view...
So for example:
public class MyPageModel{
public string Test {get;set;}
}
My view:
#model MyPageViewModel
<div>
#Model.Test
</div>
Hovering over "Model" brings up "dynamic WebPage.Model".
Hovering over "Model.Test" brings up "dynamic expression. This operation will be resolved at runtime"
Among the other usual libraries, my project references version 2 of these:
System.Web.Razor , System.Web.WebPages, System.Web.WebPages.Razor
Am I missing a reference perhaps?
Also to add, if my Viewmodel is an IEnumerable
e.g.
#model IEnumerable<MyPageViewModel>
Hovering over the "MyPageViewModel" brings up "Validation (HTML5). Element 'MyPageViewModel' is not supported.
I first followed the advice on this page:
http://www.asp.net/whitepapers/mvc4-release-notes
that didn't solve it for me, so I followed another piece of advice and completely overwrote my web.config in my Views folder with this:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<configSections>
<sectionGroup name="system.web.webPages.razor" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.RazorWebSectionGroup, System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35">

<add name="BlockViewHandler" path="*" verb="*" preCondition="integratedMode" type="System.Web.HttpNotFoundHandler" />

</configuration>
Which solved my issues.
Make sure your ~/Views/Web.config contains the below sections:
<system.web.webPages.razor>
<host factoryType="System.Web.Mvc.MvcWebRazorHostFactory, System.Web.Mvc, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" />

<add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Ajax" />
<add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Html" />
<add namespace="System.Web.Routing" />
</namespaces>
</pages>
</system.web.webPages.razor>
check your web.config against what LovelyBananas posted. For me, it was also the web.config in the /Views folder. Same thing. It still had references to MVC 3.0.0.0 after i did a nuget install MVC4 install...

ASP.net web server not logging on

I have inherited a ASP.net site, and I've made some changes too to some of the VB code and CSS, and have hosted it on a FTP. It uses an SQL DB to allow users to log in and calls stored procedures.
The site complies with no errors, and allows me to log in as a user, and can works perfectly on testing.
However, once uploaded to the FTP, it no longer allows me to log in as a user. It hangs for a while, and then returns a message saying that the password is wrong, despite it being correct. It doesn't throw an error message, and I think I've narrowed it down to something to do with the Web.config file, but I'm at a loss as how it's not working, especially with the lack of error messages being thrown.
Any ideas?

I think it could be a configuration in IIS if (assuming that's where it is hosted). I would look at your authentication settings for the site
I've since got hosting elsewhere and that seems to have done the trick, so I think the problem was down to the host's configuration.

WCF/SSL returning a blank page in IIS7

I've been trying to resolve this for nearly 2 days and don't seem to be making much progress. I have a WCF service set up (developed with VB in VWD2008). When running this locally I am able to see the standard .svc help page with the link to the WSDL page.
I moved this across to a server and retested in before trying to sercure it - still working OK.
I then set up a self-signed certificate and this is where the problems seem to start. I know the certificate authentication between my server and my PC works (Client certificate is set to required on IIS7) as I am able to hit a simple .aspx page when using https. At this stage, when i try to browse to the .svc page 2 things are happening - in IE a blank page is being returned and in FF I am getting the following message on a yellow background
XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: https://www.database-direct.com/vs.svc
Line Number 1, Column 1:
From what I've read, the difference is just due to FF handling blank pages differently.
I'm fairly sure that my web.config file is correct as it is almost a carbon copy of another service that is running successfully (albeit on a different server running IIS6 - would there be any differences in the config file?)

From what I have been seeing from looking into this, it would suggest some sort of IIS set up problem I think as the actual service seems to work OK. the only other thing that I could think to check was the Handler Mappings but they check out OK - svc-ISAPI-2.0-64 is mapped against *.svc
If anyone has any further suggestions as to how I can debug this (I have checked with Fiddler and am simply getting a status 200 on page load) or what may be causing it I would be very appreciative!
I just had this problem. I think is because of svc is missing in MIME mapping in IIS.
In order to resolve this you need to run "\%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\Windows Communication Foundation\ServiceModelReg.exe -i". It will create required .svc mapping.
If you are on a 64 bits, its Framework64

WCF Consumer Website: The Address property on ChannelFactory.Endpoint was null. The ChannelFactory's Endpoint must have a valid Address specified

I've got a simple WCF service that works great on localhost - consumed by another local website and is returning data.
Now I upload my service to our host, changing the appropriate addresses in the web.config, and it breaks when the client calls it.
Error:
The Address property on ChannelFactory.Endpoint was null. The ChannelFactory's Endpoint must have a valid Address specified.
I've read several other posts and I believe I've done pretty much all there was to do - setting the bindings, etc.
Below is my web.config for my wcf service (hosted through SSL):

I added the address attribute and am now getting the following error:
The CustomBinding on the ServiceEndpoint with contract 'IService' lacks a TransportBindingElement. Every binding must have at least one binding element that derives from TransportBindingElement.
Line 113:
Line 114: public string GetData(int value) {
Line 115: return base.Channel.GetData(value);
Line 116: }
Line 117:
Well, the error message really says it all:
Every binding must have at least one
binding element that derives from
TransportBindingElement.
The custom binding you defined only has a textMessageEncoding element - that's only half the story! As the error say - you must also add a transport element to it:
<customBinding>
<binding name="WebHttpBinding_IService">
<textMessageEncoding maxReadPoolSize="64" maxWritePoolSize="16"
messageVersion="Soap12" writeEncoding="utf-8">
<readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192"
maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096"
maxNameTableCharCount="16384" />
</textMessageEncoding>
<httpTransport />
</binding>
</customBinding>
See the new <httpTransport/> element? I'm never sure whether it needs to be first before the encoding, or after it - try it out, one of the two situations will work :-)
If you're hosting with SSL, you might need to use <httpsTransport /> instead.
Now, your custom binding should be complete to use.
Additionally, however - on your server side, you only have a "webHttpBinding" endpoint - but on the client, you are trying to connect to an endpoint that has "customBinding" enabled..... you need to make up your mind - those things need to match between server and client! On the server side, define the same endpoint you want to try to connect to from the client - otherwise it'll never work....
Also, since you're hosting in IIS, this setting of a base address is totally useless and won't do anything - just strip it out!
<service name="Service" behaviorConfiguration="ServiceBehavior">
<host>
<baseAddresses>
<add baseAddress="https://myserverssl.com/Service.svc"/>
</baseAddresses>
</host>
...
The address of the service is always determine by server name (or IP), name of the virtual directory and the svc file inside that virtual directory - you cannot change that, you cannot modify that, you cannot influence that.
I'm pretty sure that Endpoint address shouldn't be a full address, it's relative to the Foobar.svc file (so, usually '/'). I haven't ever had to put the fully qualified URL into my web.config.

I can get a .NET client to talk to the ESB Toolkit WCF Service /ESB.ItineraryServices.WCF/ProcessItinerary.svc with no problem at all, however, we use a client technology that cannot process wsHttpBindings at all, it can only see the basicHttpBinding.
Does anyone have any idea how to add a basicHttpBinding to the web.config for this service? The web.config is shown below.
Many thanks for any help you can provide.

You need to create a new On Ramp with basic Http binding.
You can create the OnRamp using BizTalk WCF Service Publishing Wizard.
Copy Web.config file from original service.
Verify that the ProcessitinerarySevice.svc file has factory set to
Microsoft.BizTalk.Adapter.Wcf.Runtime.BasicHttpWebServiceHostFactory
And now you can start using basicHttp binding.
Check out this link:
http://payalaryabhandari.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
In the binding tag you can add :
<basicHttpBinding>
<binding name="basichttpbindingname">
<security mode="TransportCredentialOnly">
<transport clientCredentialType="Windows"/>
</security>
<readerQuotas maxDepth="2147483647" maxStringContentLength="2147483647" maxArrayLength="2147483647" maxBytesPerRead="2147483647" maxNameTableCharCount="2147483647"/>
</binding>
</basicHttpBinding>
