I do not know why the project menu in visual basic 6.0 IDE has been corrupted and I don't see
all menu items such as references, project properties,....
it might be useful to know that I have installed SP6.0 of visual studio 2000 enterprise edition.
any suggestion ?
The vb6 ide can be customized.
Try right clicking on a menu or toolbar and select "Customize...", you should be able to see a full list of commands (I can't recall, but there should be an option to reset it, too).

In Visual Studio 2015, I cannot find the designer for RDLC reports anymore. Does anyone know if this is only a bug and if it is provided later on or if Microsoft wants to kill the RDLC or if they want us to use an external designer and when, which designer this is?
Update
For developpers searching for the RDLC Report Designer in Visual Studio 2017,
it must be now downloaded from the Visual Studio Marketplace
Visual Studio 2017 and newer
The RDLC Report Designer can be found on the Visual Studio Marketplace:
for Visual Studio 2022
for Visual Studio 2017 - 2019
Besides that, the ReportViewer Control, which is the runtime requirement for showing reports in ASP.NET or Windows Forms Applications, is now available through NuGet. See here for details.
Visual Studio 2015
The Report Designer is part of the Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools.
You can add it using the Visual Studio setup (Programs and Features > Visual Studio 2015 > Change)
In VS 2017, i have checked SQL Server Data Tools during the installation and it doesn't help. So I have downloaded and installed Microsoft.RdlcDesigner.vsix
Now it works.
UPDATE
Another way is to use Extensions and Updates.
Go to Tools > Extensions and Updates choose Online then search for Microsoft Rdlc Report Designer for Visual studio and click Download. It need to close VS to start installation. After installation you will be able to use rdlc designer.
Hope this helps!
Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
Select the entry for your version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2015. In our case, it was Microsoft Visual Studio Enterprise 2015.
Click the "Change" button on the top bar above the program list.
After the splash screen, a window will open.
Press the "Modify" button.
Select Windows and Web Development > Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools, and check the box next to it.
Press the "Update" button on the lower-right hand side of the window.
Once the installation is complete, open your version of Visual Studio. After the new .dll files are loaded, Reporting functionality should be reimplemented, and you should be able to access all related forms, controls, and objects.
Visual Studio 2017
Open Visual Studio
In Tools -> Extensions and Updates -> Online
Search for 'rdlc'
Install Microsoft Rdlc Report Designer (23.3 MB)
Close Visual Studio, let the installer run and open Visual Studio to see the rdlc in the designer.
I had the same problem, after install the MS VS Community 2015, I didn't find the RDLC files neither the Report Viewer component, I solve the problem by going in the Control Panel (Windows) -> Programs -> Try to uninstall the MS VS Community and choose MODIFY, in this moment you will be able to Check the Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools.
That is it!
In addition to previous answers, here is a link to the latest SQL Server Data Tools. Note that the download link for Visual Studio 2015 is broken. ISO is available from here, links at the bottom of the page:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt204009.aspx
MSDN Subscriber Downloads do not list the VS 2015 compatible version at the time of writing.
However, even with the latest tools (February 2015), I can't open previous version of .rptproj files.
I've had the same problem as you and I installed Microsoft rdlc designer to solve my problem.
And if you already installed this but still can't found rdlc designer try open visual studio > tools > Extension and Updates > then enable Miscrosoft Rdlc designer extensions.
If you did a custom installation you need to add Microsoft Sql Server Data Tools. After that you can add Reportviwer to your webform.
To solve this problem open nutget package manager console and select your project and type install-package microsoft.report.viewer and wait to install
The setup feature does not work on Visual Studio 2017 and later versions.
The extension needs to be downloaded from VS Marketplace and then installed -

This trouble passed me. If you can't repair this trouble, perhaps can you review all Framework versions that you have in your system. For example, if you have ReportViewer for Framework 4.5 and your project is assembly in Framework 2 or another Framework minor at 4.5. The differents versions Framework sometime have problems.
Use Extensions and Updates.
Go to Tools > Extensions and Updates > choose Online then search for Microsoft Rdlc Report Designer for Visual studio and click Download.
It needs to close your VS to start installation.
After installation you will be able to use RDLC designer.
In the past I have only used Visual Studio 2010 Professional for C#, but now I need to work on a little bit of Visual Basic. When I go to create a project it only shows C# project templates. I am assuming when I installed Visual Studio 2010, I only installed C#.
How do I now install VB.NET support?
I tried following a MS tutorial: I went to Control Panel and selected Change/Uninstall on Visual Studio, but then it asked me to insert a CD, of which I have none since it was donwloaded.
Nevermind I figured it out. (win7) Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Uninstall/Change on Visual Studio -> then when you hit the Add/Remove features and you get the popup asking about the cd (which is where I assumed i was stuck before) if you hit Download it takes you to the dialog where you choose additional languages to install and it worked.
I apologize for my earlier flippant comment, and offer you

I had same problem but i did the simplest solution ,since i had my .iso(visual studio express) file i had downloaded I used my winrar to extract files ,went to VBExpress ,open the folder and click on the setup and it all worked out successfully...
I want to open a program (written in Visual basic 6) to be open in Visual Studio.net. Please guide, how could I do that?
While trying to open VB6 (.vbp file) program directly from the OPEN project option in visual studion.net, I was getting this error,
"Visual Basic 6 (.vbp) files cannot be opened in Visual Studio"
I am trying to open in VS 2010.
Visual Studio 2010 does not support VB6 projects. See the link here
From the msdn documentation:
Visual Studio 2010 does not provide tools for upgrading applications and projects from Visual Basic 6.0. If you want to upgrade your project from Visual Basic 6.0 to Visual Basic 2010, you can use the upgrade tools provided with earlier versions of Visual Studio and then upgrade the project again in Visual Studio 2010.
Visual Basic Tools for Visual Studio
There's a plugin called Visual Basic Tools for Visual Studio that provides the following features:
load classic VB workspace- and project-files and offers quick access to the extension´s options
integrates with the solution explorer and the code editor having support for syntax highlighting, basic outlining (allows to expand/collapse methods, properties and types) as well as navigation bar support.
Classes, Types, Modules, Forms and Controls can be inspected using the Object Browser and Class View.
From the reading, it's unclear if you can actually build the project, though it does say:
The import tool creates a new solution and MSBuild compatible projects.

RAD Basic
There is also an independent IDE called RAD Basic that claims the following features:
New and modern IDE (Integrated Development Environment) with form designer supporting drag and drop, code completion, refactoring tools, etc.
RAD Basic Compiler: Compiler 100% compatible with your VB6 project (vbp, frm, bas and cls files). Generate native executables (exe and ocx) in both 32-bit and 64-bit.
RAD Basic Forms: Reimplementation of common VB6 controls and components supporting 32-bit and 64-bit.
etc.
Speaking from my experience, it's not easy to open a Visual Basic 6.0 project in any versions of Visual Studio above 2008.
Although 2008 and below versions do provide an automatic function to convert Vb6 code to the VB.net framework. But, the problem starts after the conversion - it can skip some code, add functions/variables on its own, or modify the functional behavior on its own, and with that the VB.proj will be created with errors and you will not be able to open it anywhere as a solution file. The same with any 3rd party tools.
If you want to open the VB6 code try Visual Basic 6.0 Portable edition.
But headache will still follow you there, please refer this link
Installation of VB6 on Windows 7 / 8 / 10
Make sure you are clicking on the project file itself... Right click on the file and select "Open With" and select your visual studio program. It may need to be converted and if so, it will prompt you to convert the project.
Thanks!

I'm trying to write a Microsoft surface application for Samsung sur40 pixelsense machine. I have found some sample projects online and run them on the MS Visual C# 2010, but I want to convert these projects into applications so that I can put them into Samsung sur40 and run them in its surface mode. Do you know how I can actually achieve this?
In order to write these type of applications, I am using the following OS, programs and tools.
Embedded Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express Edition
.NET Framework 4.0
Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) 4.0
Microsoft XNA® Framework 4.0
Windows PowerShell and DMTF DASH support, and enhanced administrator tools
MS Surface 2.0 SDK(an Input Simulator allows me to develop and test projects on Windows 7 PCs)
Everything is working properly and I can test the sample projects on my PC. I just want to make a Visual Studio project to run in the Samsung sur40 machine. Please help me if it is possible? If you need further explanations to answer my question, please let me know and I try to expand the problem. Thank you in advance.
Menual install !
you can't see the folder "c:\ProgramData"
because the folder's option hide~
so..
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Surface\v2.0\Programs --> copy and paste!! and find!!
you create a shortcut of the ApplicationName.XML in your project for MS Surface applicaion
copy shortcut file and paste --> "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Surface\v2.0\Programs"
and following this steps :
In Windows mode, click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Surface 2.0, and then click Surface Configuration Editor
In the left pane, click Application Launcher.
In the Application Launcher pane, in the Launcher title box, type the title text you want to appear above Launcher.
The title text will be placed just above the Launcher menu and is left-justified. You cannot change the font, font size, font color, justification, or location of the text.
Click OK to save your setting and close Surface Configuration Editor, or click Apply to save your setting and continue configuring Surface. Restart Surface Shell for your settings to take effect.

I have had Visual Studio Team System 2008 and I have upgraded it to Visual Studio Team System 2008. But, after installation, the standard tool box have been diseapeard. How could I make it visible/enabled again to use the drag and drop feature of VS 2008.
Regards
BK
Make sure you're not running in debug mode, as that will certainly cause the toolbox to disappear and not support drag and drop.
Also, the toolbox won't be there if you're not looking at a file type that supports it or have a project open.
To show the toolbox in VS 2008 go to the View menu and select Toolbox or hit CTRL+Alt+X.
I found the answer:
-Close Visual Studio
-Enter "Run" Cmd to intilize the Commander:
-Write this below:
devenv /ResetSkipPkgs
Enter !
That's all! :)
