Can a child use Colab? - google-colaboratory

My child, who is aged 8, wants to use Google Colab to explore Python and machine learning. When he tries to access it, he receives the error that:
"This service is unavailable for Google Workspace for Education users who are under 18 and children under 13 (or the age of consent in your country)."
His account is managed through Google Family Link, hence Google knows his age. The browser is Chrome running on Android.
The Terms of Service do not prevent access by children; on the contrary, the preamble seems specifically written to allow for the possibility of a parent entering into the agreement on behalf of a child. It seems strange that Google should provide a free resource to those wanting to learn, but deny access to children. So my question is, is something wrong with our configuration, or is this Google's policy? If the latter, what is the rationale for it? I ask this question so I can decide whether it is justified to circumvent the restriction, which appears at first sight to be technical rather than legal.

Actually, what I think that Google is doing right. As I'm also a school Student I can understand the curiosity your child is having regarding exploring cool stuff. But on the other hand, it can also be harmful to his mind.
Google collab is specially designed to collab mainly in the field of Machine Learning, Data Analysis, etc. and if your child who is just 8 years old try to do that stuff at that age then for sure he will fail to do it which can impact negatively on your child's brain and if he finds that these fields are very-difficult then for sure your child will try not to pursue a career in that field.
I understand that doing programming is good for all ages but you as a father you need to make sure that your child does not go too much into it at that age as for the child of 8 years it is really important to do physical activity also.
And the simple and direct answer to your question according to me is that - Ya, a child of 8 years old can do programming but try not to use online tools like Google Collab or online IDEs as it can distract your child.
Please also note that I'm not a psychologist, I'm answering this question because somewhere in my life I was also stuck in this situation and I preferred doing my primary tasks first and pursuing programming as a hobby. But definitely, I'll say that it totally depends on person-to-person so at the end of the day it is your choice to let it do or not.

There is much more to design of software than building the architecture, implementing the requirements and creating a nice-looking interface. A beautiful interface may not necessarily be useful and effective, and vice versa, an ugly software utility can become a favorite tool for many users. What at least basic knowledge should a decent developer or designer have to smooth the user experience?
Please focus on one issue per answer, describe a problem, bring examples, how the user experience is impaired and what are the ways to address the situation.
I will start:
PROBLEM: Interfaces with lots of controls and options immediately on one screen can be overwhelming to users. They will have to waste time looking through all of them trying to locate the one option they need. They'll also get distracted in the process, see one more feature, go there to learn about it and maybe read help to see if it can solve their problems, then another one and so on until they are completely lost.
EXAMPLE: As a good example I will cite the Microsoft Word (as well as other Office applications) of pre-2007 version. The sheer amount of menus and options has always scared me. I managed to remember where were the options I needed most often but that's it. Everything extra, I tend to google for things I need to learn where this particular feature is located in the forest of options.
SOLUTION: Hide out all extra options behind a few menus and submenus logically structured for the user to be able to locate them through the process of logical thinking. The 2007 redesign has obviously taken the problem into account by grouping the options into tabs. I found many new options I needed without googling but just by thinking where it could belong and looking there. Not that it has always worked, but the improvement can be felt.
Now, what are your ideas?
Useful and effective interfaces are beautiful. Look at them as a UI designer, not as an art major. :-)
Simplicity; as few choices as can accomplish the needs.
Convention; follow patterns the users are already familiar with.
Observation; watch the users, and smooth the places they have problems.
Gentleness; write human-readable errors. Don't upset the users.
Consistency; do things the same way everywhere in the application. Have one person write all of your text, or write a standard that text must meet.
Learn to listen.
Users will tell what they want but not in the words that you're used to. Socialize, sit down, take your time and listen. Watch them work, ask questions. Bring up some ideas "How would you like...?" and listen to the replies. Don't assume that something would be better for them, ask them. Don't force them down a certain path because it's more simple to code.

GMail has this slogan "Search, don't sort". The same principle can be applied to user interfaces. As you mentioned, users are already doing this themselves by googling for features.
Now the next step is to build support for feature search right into the application. Hit a keyboard shortcut, type a few keywords, and click on the feature you want to use. The IDE Insight feature in the upcoming RAD Studio 2010 does exactly that.
Problem: user interfaces often don't have a 1-to-1 correspondence to the domain model:

Solution: the naked objects architectural design pattern. To take this to the extreme you might even generate the GUI automatically from the domain model.
I know the question is a bit old, but I'm surprised to see that no one mentioned Joel Spolsky's excellent article : User Interface Design For Programmers. It's definitely something every developer should read. There are no especially brilliant or original ideas in it, it's mostly common sense, but it did open my eyes on some not so obvious points...
I suggest reading "The Design of Everyday Things" by Donald Norman.
I use to think asthetics were useless until I tried to sell my house. Sturdy foundation, 3 brms, 2 baths, 2 car garage, fenced yard, blah, blah blah - until I got rid of the stink from my 3 dogs nobody would touch it.
The more visually pleasing the app/site is, the more chance it will get used. Now a user will give it a try and determine if it does anything they want. Finally, how usable is it? This is a point when you will probably get more feedback.
Just like the house: get rid of the clutter, clean everything, start with a general color pallette and let the user add the crazy colors if the want them.
If you really want your eyes opened, take a course in Human Factors Engineering.
I have worked at a pharmaceutical company for the past two years and I think that the design of the interface is nearly as important as the functionality. Watching users struggle with old complicated legacy code is the primary reason for re-designing it. Functionality is seldom the primary reason for redeveloping code or replacing it.

We have a project hand over from on shore team to our team (off shore) not long ago. However we were having difficulties for the hand-over process.
We couldn't think of any questions to ask during their design walk-through, because we were overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information. We wanted to ask, but we didn't know what to ask. Since they got no question from us, the management think that the hand-over process was been done successfully.
We had tried to go through all the documentation from our company wiki page before attending the handover presentation, but there are too many documents, we don't even know where to start with.
I wonder, are there any rules or best practices that we can follow, to ensure a successful project hand-over, either from us, or to us.

In terms of reading the documentation, personally I'd go for this order:
Get a short overview of the basic function of the application - what is it meant to achieve. The business case is probably the best document which will already exist.
Then the functional specification. At this point you're not trying to understand any sort of how or technology, just what the app is meant to do. If it's massive, ask them what they key business processes are and focus on those.
Then the high level technical overview. This should include an architecture diagram, required platforms, versions, config and so on. List any questions you have.
Then skim any other useful looking technical documents - certainly a FAQ if there is one, test scripts can be good too as they outline detailed "how to" type scenarios. Maybe it's just me but I find reading technical documents before I've seen the system a waste - it's too academic and they're normally shockingly written. It's certainly an area I'd limit the time I spent on if I didn't feel I was getting a reasonable return for the time I was spending.
If there are several of you arrage structured reviews between you and discuss the documents you've read, making sure you've got what you need to out of it. If the system is big then each take an area and present to the others on it - give yourselves a reason to learn as much as possible and knowing you're going to be quizzed is a good motivator. Make a list of questions where you don't understand something. Having structured reviews between you will focus your minds and make it more of an interactive task, rather than just trawling through page after page of tedious document.
Once you get face to face with them:
Start with a full system demo. Ask questions as they come up, don't let them fob you off with unclear answers - if they can't answer something have it written down and task them with getting the answer.
Now get the code checked out and running on your machines. Do this on at least two machines - one they lead, one you lead. Document the whole process - this is the most important step. If you can't get the code running you're screwed.
Go through the build process. Ensure that you can build the app (including any automated build and unit tests they may have). Note that all unit tests should pass - if they don't or if they say "oh, that one always fails" then they need to fix that before final acceptance.
Go through the install process. Do this at least twice, one they lead, once you lead. Make sure that it's documented.
Now come up with a set of common business functions carried out with the application. Use this to walk the code with them. The code base will be too big to cover the whole thing but make sure you cover a representative sample.
If there is a database or an API do a similar exercise. Come up with some standard data you might need to extract or some basic tasks you might need to carry out using the API and spend some time working through these with them.
Ask them if there's anything they think you should know.
Make sure that any questions you've written down anywhere else are answered.
You may consider it worth going through the bug list (open and closed) - start with the high priority ones and talk through anything particularly worrying looking. Even if they've fixed it it may point at a bit of code which is troublesome.
And finally if the opportunity exists - if there are any outstanding bugs or changes, see if you can pair program a couple.
Do not finally accept the app unless you are 100% sure you can:
Get the code to compile
Get the code to build (including the database)
Get the application installed
Do not accept handover is complete until they have:
Documented anything you picked up on that wasn't covered to your satisfaction
Answered ALL of your questions - a question they won't answer after being asked repeatedly screams of something they're hiding
And grab their e-mail addresses and phone numbers. Even if it's only informal they'll probably be willing to help out if the shit really hits the fan...

My basic process for receiving a handover would be:
Get a general overview of the app, document it
Get a list of all future work that the client expects
... all known issues
... any implementation specifics
As much up-to-date documentation they have
If possible, have them write some tests for critical components of the system (or at least get them thoroughly documented)
If there is too much documentation (possible) just confirm that it is all up to date, and make sure you find out from them where to start, if it is not clear.
Ask as many question as possible; anything that comes to mind, because you may not have the chance again.
Most handovers, perhaps all of them, will cause a lot of information to be lost. The only effective way to perform a handover that I have seen is to do it gradually. One way to do it is to allow a few key people from phase One to stay on the project well into Phase Two.
The extreme solution is to get rid of all handovers, and start using an Agile mindset.
As a start, define the exit criteria for the handover. This should be discussed, negotiated and agreed with both parties and make sure higher management knows this. Then write up a checklist of all things needed to achieve the exit criteria and chase it.
Check out "Software Requirements" and Software Requirement Patterns for ideas on questions to ask when gathering information about a project. I think that just as they would work for new development, they would also help you to come to terms with an existing project.

I have several problems planning an iteration for a single week. We use XP and TDD in Pairs and it is hard to decide who is pairing with whom. Is there any tool support for planning an iteration that also supports planning of pairs?
In XP you don't plan who pairs with who and when. Team members just pick a task to work on at the start of the day, in the daily stand-up meeting. If someone else also wants to work on the task, they'll volunteer to pair on it. Team members who do not pick a task first will pair with someone who did. Sometimes the person who picked a task will want to use the expertise of another team-member and so will ask them to pair with them. But that person may have something more critical to work on and decide not to. Pairs often switch while a task is in progress, especially if it takes more than a day to complete.
So, pairing up on tasks is fluid and informal.
The one thing to keep an eye on is that everyone on the team pairs regularly with everyone else. If that is not happening, it can indicate a deeper problem in the team -- someone not pulling their weight or people who do not get on, for example. If left to fester this can lead to siloed knowledge and key-man dependencies that increase project risk.
In those situations, some teams like to use "pair stairs" to keep track of pairing and highlight problems.
However, that is just addressing the symptoms (uneven pairing) not the underlying problem. It's better to address the problem head-on in a safe environment (e.g. run a retrospective) and work out how to solve it.
I suggest using a product such as VersionOne.com. With this product you can either load up your projects (resources, etc.) into their online version or you can grab a copy of their product and install it to your local servers. This is not a free product but for the non-enterprise version you do have the first year to try it for free! It is similar to crack...give the first taste cheap to get you hooked. Great product though. I have yet to meet an agile team that didn't enjoy working in this environment.
If this is not your cup of tea though there is a product out from the folks at ThoughtWorks.com called Mingle which I have been eye-balling for a while now. This looks to be a wonderful product as well. I have not yet used it though...but have spent a fair amount of time researching it and chatting with others about it. Very slick product!
There are quite a few products available for agile/scrum teams... have a look at http://userstories.com/products for a decent list.
We use versionOne where I work, and it does some things quite well, and other things... not so much.
You'll need to use a product for a little while, at a low level and a high level to make sure it fits your needs.
As part of a scrum team, I deal most with planning and writing sprints/stories, and tracking progress of my work. Thus for me, those are the two most important pieces to get right.
That said, I don't know if this is addressing the "planning in pairs" question -- what exactly are you trying to achieve? Is there a reason you are trying to avoid your devs make that decision? Are you trying to rotate teams all the time? Does everyone always want to pair with one person? You could always just pair up people based on who wants to work a particular story...
Without a better understanding of you constraints, I wouldn't know how to answer that part of the question. I also doubt that how to pair up is something you should be using a tool for.
Make pairs based upon working style, or people who work well together and can communicate easily with each other, or have different strengths.
Avoid vastly different experience levels, since that doesn't always encourage discussions, and is more apprpriate for mentoring than pairing.
Glad to see you are pairing and using TDD. WIth pairing, rotating pairs is important. However, for any story card, it is important that a developer stay with the card from start to finish. That person is the primary half of the pair.
So you have two issues. How should you handle rotating pairs, and how to you track the burn down in XPlanner or some other iteration tracking tool.
Regarding the burndown, the primary developer can be assigned to the card and responsible for updating the burndown daily. For pairing, you should have a big visible chart (BVC) showing the pairing schedule. This will ensure that all developers pair with each of the team members and help ensure that the code is shared across the team.

I'm not a full-time software guy. In fact, in the last ten years, 90 % of my work was either on the hardware or doing low-level (embedded) code.
But the other 10% involves writing shell scripts for development tools, making kernel changes to add special features, and writing GUI applications for end-users.
The problem is that I find myself facing significant holes in my knowledge, often because it's been years since I've done "X", and I've either forgotten, or the environment has changed.
Every so often, there are threads on TheDailyWTF.com along the lines of "WTF: the guy spent all day writing tons of code, when he could have called foobar() in library baz". I've been there myself, because I don't remember much beyond the #include <stdio.h> stuff (for example), and my quick search somehow missed the right library.
What methods have you found effective to crash-learn and/or crash-refresh yourself in programming environments that you rarely touch?
Ask developers you know that work in the environment that you are interested in.
Search the web a lot.
Ask specific questions in relevant IRC channels (Freenode is great).
Ask specific questions on StackOverflow and other sites.
There really isn't any substitue for being "in the daily flow" of the programming environment in question. Having a good feel for the current state of the art is something you only get from experience, as I'm sure you can verify in you own areas of expertise.
i try to keep up with general news about languages i'm interested in but aren't necessarily using at the moment. being able to follow the general changes helps a lot for when you have to pick it up again.
beyond that, i personally find it easiest to grab an up to date reference book, and code a few basic things to get me used to the environment again, ie as a web programmer i'd make a simple crud app, or a quick web service/client.
For frameworks/APIs (such as a JavaScript framework or a widget library):
Quickly scan through the entire API documentation; get a glimpse of all that's out there instead of picking the first method that seems to fit your needs.
If available, glance at the source code of the
framework to see how the
API was intended to be used. Seeing what's behind the curtain helps. And also
some of the methods will have been used
internally, showcasing their true intents.
Don't necessarily always trust existing code (Googled, from co-workers, from books) since not everyone does the due diligence to find out the most proper way to use an API. Sometimes even samples in API documentation can be out-of-date.
In newer full-featured environments like Java, .NET, and Python, there are library solutions to almost every common problem. Don't think "how can I program this in plain C", but "which library solves this problem for me?" It's an attitude shift. As far as resources, the library documentation for the three environments I mentioned are all good.
The best solution I think is to get a book on the topic / environment you need to catch up on.
Ask questions from developers who you know who have the experience in that area.
You can also check out news groups (Google Groups makes this easy) and forums. You can ask questions, but even reading 10 minutes of the latest popular questions for a particular topic / environment will keep you a little bit "in the know".
The same thing can go for blogs too if you can find a focussed blog. These are pretty rare though and I personally don't look to blogs to keep me "in the know" on a particular environment. (I personally find blogs most popular and interesting in the "here's something neat" or "here's how I failed and you can avoid it" or "general practice" areas.)
In addition to the answers above, I think what you are asking for will take a significant amount of your time, and you must be willing to spend that time to achieve your goals. My method would be pretty much the same as Owen's answer; get a reference book or tutorial and work through the examples hacking in changes as you go to experiment with how any given thing works. I'd say as a bare minimum, allocate a hour to do this every other day, in a time that you know you won't be interrupted. Any less, and you'll probably continue to struggle.
The best way to crash-learn is simple, simply do it, use google to search for X tutorial, open your favorite browser and start typing away. Once you reached a certain level of feeling with X, do look at other people things, there is lots of open source out there and there must be someboby who has used X before, look at how they solved certain problems and learn from this, this is an easy way to verify that you are 'on the right track' or that you're doing things or thinking in patterns that other people would define as 'common sense'.
Crash-refreshing something is much easier since you have a suspended learning curve already, the way I do this is to keep some of the example you did while writing or keep some projects you did. Then you can easily refresh and use your own examples.
The library issue you mention here well, only improving your search skills will improve that one (although looking on how others solved this will help as well)
Don't try and pick up every environment.
Focus on the one that's useful and/or interesting, and then pick a few quality blogs to regularly read or podcasts to listen to. You'll pick up the current state of the environment fairly quickly.
Concrete example: I've been out of the Java world for a long time, but I've been put on a Java project in the last few months. Since then I've listened to the Java Posse podcast and read a few blogs, and although I'm far from a Java guru I've got back up to speed without too much trouble.
Just a though. While we are working on our code we know that we need to work very hard to optimize the critical path, but on non critical path we usually don't spend to much effort to optimize.
From your description you are working 90% on embedded and 10% on rest, lets assume that in 50% of the rest you are spending more time that needed. So according to my calculation you are optimizing about 5% of your work flow ...
Of course the usual google/SO/forums search is useful before you doing something new, but investing more than just that is waste of time for my opinion, unless you want to waste some time just for fun or general education ... :), but this is another story.
By the way I'm in same position and last time i needed some GUI and used MFC (because i used it sometimes 10 years ago :) ) and i perfectly understand that i probably will get better results with C# and friends, but the learning curve just not justify this especially knowing that i need mix the C code with GUI.

Getting developers to use a wiki [closed]

I work on a complex application where different teams work on their own modules with a degree of overlap. A while back we got a Mediawiki instance set up, partly at my prompting. I have a hard job getting people to actually use it, let alone contribute.
I can see a lot of benefit in sharing information. It may at least reduce the times we reinvent the wheel.
The wiki is not very structured, but I'm not sure that is a problem as long as you can search for what you need.
Any hints?
Some tips:
Any time someone sends information by email that really should be in a wiki, make a page for that topic and add what they put in the email. Then reply "Thanks for that info, I've put it into the wiki here so that it's easier to find in the future."
Likewise, if you have information you need to share that should be in the wiki, put it there and just send an email with a link to it, rather than email people.
When you ask people for information, phrase it so that putting such documentation in the wiki should be considered the default or standard: "I searched in the wiki but I couldn't find it. Have you put that info up there yet?"
If you are the "wiki champion", make sure other people know how to use it, e.g. "Did I go through how to create a new page with you yet?"
Edit the sidebar to make sure it is relevant to your work.
Use "nav box" style templates on related pages for easier navigation.
Put something like {{Special:NewPages/5}} on the front page, or recent changes, so that people can see the activity.
Take a peek at Recent changes every few days or week, and if you notice someone adding information without being prodded, send them an email or drop by and give them a little compliment.
As I mentioned before, a Wiki is very unorganized.
However, if that is the only argument from your developers, then invest some effort to create a simple index page and keep it updated (either do it yourself or ask people to link their contributions to the index). That way, the Wiki might grow into a very nice and quite comprehensive collection of documentation for all your work.
We've been using a wiki in some form or another for a while now, but it does take a while for people to get on board. You might find that you will be the only one writing articles for some time, but bear with it, other people will come on board eventually.
If someone sends an email around that contains information related to the project then helpfully point them in the direction of the wiki - and keep doing that - they should get the hint.
We have a SharePoint portal and use the wiki from there - we customised it with our own branding so that it "looks the part" - I really feel this has helped to improve the uptake of it.
Make sure that everyone is aware that the wiki is even more informal than email.... because there will be a "fear factor" that people may think anything they add to the wiki will be over-analysed.
I think most of the answers so far are spot on - the more you plug away at it yourself, the larger the body of useful information will become, so slowly but surely people will naturally start to use it.
The other approach you could use is this: Suggest that every time someone asks another team member a question about the project, they should answer the question as normal, but also add the answer to a section of the Wiki. This may take a few minutes extra, but it will mean that the next time someone asks the same question (which they inevitably will), you can save time by pointing them at the Wiki. This, in turn, should help people to start using the Wiki as a first source of information and help overall up-take.
You can't force developers to do something they do not have an incentive of using for; unfortunately wikis, like documentation (well, in fact wikis are documentation) rarely have any "cool" value for developers. Besides, they're already deep into dev work -- could you really bother them with a wiki?
That being said, the people who pushed for the wiki (e.g., you) should be primarily responsible for updating it, and you really would have a lot of work cut out for you if you're serious about it.
You might also try the ff:
It's not very structured you say -- a lot of people get turned off from ill-structured (hard-to-search/browse) wikis. So maybe you can fix that first
Maybe you can ask lead developers/project managers to populate it with things that are issues for them: things like code conventions and API design for your particular project
Lead by example: religiously document your part of the system. Setting a precedent may encourage others to do the same
Sell the idea of using the wiki to the developers. You've identified some benefits, share those with the developers. If they can see that they'll get something of value out of it they'll start using it.

I have done some selling and even run some training sessions. I think some people are turned off by the lack of WYSIWYG editing and ability to paste formatted text from Word or Outlook. I know there are some tools to work around these, but they are still barriers.
There are some areas where the wiki is being used to log certain areas, but people who update those are not doing anything else with it.
I will use the wiki to document my specialised area regardless as it acts as a convenient brain extension. When starting a new development I use it as a notepad for ideas that I can expand on as it progresses.
It would help if management would give it some vocal support, even if it is not made mandatory.
I have a hard job getting people to actually use it, let alone contribute.
One of the easiest ways to get people to contribute to a wiki, is to actually have them provide contents in a wiki-suitable fashion, i.e. so that whatever they post using their usual channels of communications (newsgroups, mailing lists, forums, issue trackers, chat), is basically suitable for inclusion on the wiki.
So that others (users/volunteers) can simply take such contents and put them on the wiki.
This sounds more complicated than it really is, it's mostly about generalizing questions and answers, so that they are not necessarily part of a conversation, but can be comprehensible, meaningful and useful in a standalone fashion.

What I am trying to say is that most discussions in a project can and should be easily used to become documentation eventually. With this sort of mindset, your documentation can actually grow rather rapidly. You only need to get people to keep in mind that useful information should be ideally provided in a fashion that is suitable for wiki inclusion.
I have witnessed several instances where open source projects started to use this approach to some extent and while some people (largely new users) complained that answers were not very personal, the body of documentation was increasing steadily, because other people simply monitored such discussions and started to copy/paste such responses to the wiki.
Basically, this is one of the easiest ways to get people to contribute to a wiki, without requiring them to actually use it themselves, the only thing that's required of them is a shift in thinking.
If the developers still need to maintain 'real' documentation (s.a. Word documents), I see no way to meaningfully duplicate that on a Wiki.

What my current customer has done is move all this to Wiki. So I only document once, and I do it on the Wiki.
This is okay. Working with Wiki is more tedious than with Word, but at least the doc is online and others can mix-and-match with it.
Another working solution (imho) would be to store docs alongside the source, on subversion. But then the merging system needs to be able to cope with rich text etc. as well. I don't know, if any solution for that exists (other than using HTML or LaTex, which actually would not be bad picks).
Find "sticky" items (sub-3 pg. docs / diagrams / etc) something that the team seems to be creating again and again & post it on the wiki. Make sure everyone has access to the wiki and knows its there - set up a notification mechanism if possible. With some luck, the next time they have to access, rather than dig it out of version control or their machines - they should hit the wiki.
If they still don't, try to see if the team has enough slack to actually use the wiki - Subtler issues may lie beneath their reluctance.

Just to add to some of the excellent advice being offered here...
As a dev in a small company that does largely gov't contract work in the 6-24 month range, I find that my time is often split between development and writing status reports (right up there with writing documentation, only worse!) Having a wiki to slap down unorganized thoughts and notes as we go along has made report-writing a lot less painful (not pain-LESS, but better all the same).
Further, if you're already in the Mediawiki world, you might want to look at SemanticMediawiki. It allows you to take the organization of your data to another level by semantically tagging it. That doesn't mean a lot on its own, I know, but I can tell you (for example) that it can drastically improve the relevance of the data returned from searches. It is definitely worth a look.
Generally good advice here. I'd like to add:
You really need a champion - someone pushing this to developers and management (without being pushy - that's a challenge!) and providing support & tutorials when possible. This person also needs to be a peer (so a fellow developer, not someone in a remote IT department) and really customer focused i.e. ready to make changes when requested.
Speaking of changes, some people here say wikis are unstructured. I disagree. Our MediaWiki installation is structured using categories, particularly with two extensions:WarnNoCategories (to require users to add a category when saving a page) and CategoryTree to show how all the categories fit together (this can be linked to from the sidebar). I've got more tips on how we keep this low threshold, if you're interested.
