My goal is to forward packets from an interface to another interface without source port conflicts using the right feature, NAPT.
I couldn't find how to add a NAPT rule (Network Address Port Translation or also known as PAT) with iptables and nftables.
More interestingly, searching combinations of PAT NAPT iptables/nftables/netfilter doesn't give anything relevant. Even when they mention PAT/NAPT, they do a simple IP masquerading...
Edit
It seems iptables's NAT does implicit port translation... somehow it's obvious for everybody even though it isn't written anywhere.
The definition of NAT is however pretty clear and doesn't include a layer 4 alteration. Whatever...

By using iptables, masquerade is a choice but may not fullfill your goals. The better method is to extend netfilter and iptables by writing your own iptable operation. I do this some years before, here is my github code, hope that can help you.

So my school has blocked all websites (for now at least) and I'm wondering if there was a way to access them without entering into them. What I've thought is that this could be done with google as google search can show you certain parts of pages.
Also, the current configuration of the firewall allows you to do google search and access certain websites. I also know that they perform this using a man in the middle attack intercepting SSL connections. Is there any VPN, tool or script that can bypass this? Something to do with packets obfuscation using XOR gates? I've tried using many different VPNs but all seem to not work.
Thanks in advance.

Let say I have the following:
Source IP Addresses, 10.1.1.1 & 192.168.1.1
Destination IP Address 172.16.1.1
What is the right syntax to search for firewall log for this combination?
Is this the right syntax? I tried it but did not get the result. I've also tried different combination but didn't work too.
index=firewall src_ip=10.1.1.1 or src_ip=192.168.1.1 and
dest_ip=172.16.1.1
You were close. Use parens like in math and remember boolean operators must be in upper case. Try this:
index=firewall (src_ip=10.1.1.1 OR src_ip=192.168.1.1) AND dest_ip=172.16.1.1

not sure if this is the right place to ask such a question - if not, perhaps you can direct me to the right place?
I've recently purchased a walking treadmill for my standing desk. It has a standalone control panel, connected to the base via an exposed LAN port. The panel has a few drawbacks (it's huge, has awkward and noisy buttons, no pause/return) and I wonder if I could write something very simple to control the treadmill from my PC instead. I imagine I'd need an ethernet splitter and something for network snooping to see the payload from button clicks? I've never done anything like this, so any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks all!
1st: Be sure that the port is a compliant ethernet port to avoid damage of your equipment.
A cheap setup to analyze traffic between two devices is the use of a ethernethub or a switch which can be configured to broadcast all trafic and a pc with an ethernetsniffer. An alterntive to an hub could be two bridged ethernetcards on a pc.
A common, free and feature rich sniffer is whireshark.

What is meant by a local area network configuration, as opposed to a local area network? or any network configuration for that matter.
What does it refer to exactly?
As it's name would imply, a LAN configuration refers to the parameters that defines the network, such as the network mask, security protocol in use, access control, IP (if a TCP/IP network) address delivery method, etc.
Btw this question is quite vague. If you're looking to know more about networks, you should start by some readings, and could possibly try out some online configuration exemple such as this one

I have a project and I need to make a building plan with server room etc, so I need to know where to place my router and what do I need to put in my server room besides My servers.
In the image below i placed my Router in my server room but I don't know if that's right
If your system is a wired system then the position of the router is not really important.
But if it is a wireless, the problem become very very very complicated. I have witness the failure of my university trying to solve your problem (i am a victim). If you want to cover your place with WiFi signal then position of WiFi router must be calculated carefully with the involving of physics otherwise you may encounter issues like signal interference, lag, lost signals and so on.
