PgSQL insert into select after cast - sql

I have a table with many columns stored as text. These columns have information which i am planning to cast and copy the data into a fresh table with the same column names but with correct data types ( float8 )
I tested the SELECT with CAST operator "::" and it works fine. All the columns are being converted as you can see in the picture
However , when I uncomment the INSERT statement ( above it ) to start writing in the target table, it throws an error. The target table has identical column names and only float8 column types.
The expression from the source table is indeed of type text but i am using the cast operator so why does it not work like before when only running the SELECT statement?
My query below:
INSERT INTO "PM"."new_VM_gcell_evolution_hourly_BSC"
(select

It says "column is of type double but expression is of type text" so what's really happening is that it's trying to insert one of the expressions where you cast to ::text into a column that is of type double.
If the problem was converting from text to double, you'd get a different message. Besides, the SELECT worked fine, which means it didn't encounter any text data that it couldn't convert to double.
Since you don't specify the target table columns in your INSERT, and you have so many of them, most likely you missed a column or got the order wrong.
Honestly if the table has 270 columns and they have the same name in the source and destination tables, you should really generate the query using something like python from a list of columns, that will be faster than proofreading the 270 lines...

extract values inside an array column in amazon athena

I have a table in athena aws where the column 'metadata_stopinfo' has the structure that you can see in the image.
I am trying to extract values that are inside that array, however when I try
SELECT
"json_extract_scalar"(metadata_stopinfo, '$.city')
FROM "table"
I have the following problem
SYNTAX_ERROR: line 2:5: Unexpected parameters (array(row("address" row("addressline" varchar,"city" varchar,"countrycode" varchar,"countrycodeoriginal" varchar,"state" varchar,"zipcode" varchar),"carrierreference" varchar,"contacts" array(row("contacttype" varchar,"email" varchar,"fax" varchar,"mobilephone" varchar,"name" varchar,"officephone" varchar,"userid" varchar)),"containerinfo" array(row("containerid" varchar,"containeridtype" varchar,"equipmentcode" varchar,"equipmenttype" varchar)),"conveyancelinenumber" varchar,"conveyancetype" varchar,"conveyancetypeoriginal" varchar,"dateinfo" row("arrivalestimateddate" varchar,"arrivalestimateddateend" varchar,"arrivalestimatedendoffset" varchar,"arrivalestimatedoffset" varchar,"arrivalrequesteddate" varchar,"deliveryestimateddate" varchar,"deliveryestimateddateend" varchar,"deliveryestimatedendoffset" varchar,"deliveryestimatedoffset" varchar,"deliveryrequesteddate" varchar,"deliveryrequesteddateend" varchar,"deliveryrequestedendoffset" varchar,"deliveryrequestedoffset" varchar,"departureestimateddate" varchar,"departureestimateddateend" varchar,"departureestimatedendoffset" varchar,"departureestimatedoffset" varchar,"departurerequesteddate" varchar,"pickuprequesteddate" varchar,"pickuprequesteddateend" varchar,"pickuprequestedendoffset" varchar,"pickuprequestedoffset" varchar,"pickupestimateddate" varchar,"pickupestimateddateend" varchar,"pickupestimatedendoffset" varchar,"pickupestimatedoffset" varchar),"deliverynotenumber" varchar,"instructions" array(row("customerspecificsubtype" varchar,"header" boolean,"instructionsubtype" varchar,"instructiontype" varchar,"text" varchar)),"locationid" varchar,"partnercarrieraddress" row("addressline" varchar,"city" varchar,"countrycode" varchar,"countrycodeoriginal" varchar,"state" varchar,"zipcode" varchar),"partnercarriercontacts" array(row("contacttype" varchar,"email" varchar,"fax" varchar,"name" varchar,"officephone" varchar)),"partnercarrierid" varchar,"partnercarriername" varchar,"partnerid" varchar,"partnername" varchar,"partnertimezone" varchar,"partnertype" varchar,"productquantity" row("number" double,"originalunitofmeasure" varchar,"quantitytype" varchar,"unitofmeasure" varchar),"sequencenumber" bigint,"shipmentidentifier" varchar,"stoptype" varchar,"transportinfo" row("description" varchar,"transportcode" varchar,"transportoriginalcode" varchar),"vesselinfo" row("lloydsnumber" varchar,"shipsradiocallnumber" varchar,"vesselname" varchar,"vesselnumber" varchar,"voyagetripnumber" varchar))), varchar(6)) for function json_extract_scalar. Expected: json_extract_scalar(varchar(x), JsonPath) , json_extract_scalar(json, JsonPath)
My question is, how can i extract values inside de column ?
json_extract_scalar unsurprisingly works with json (note that even if yur data was in json format, json_extract_scalar(metadata_stopinfo, '$.city') still would not have worked cause your data is an array), while your column contains array's of row's, so you need to work with it correspondingly. For example you can use indexes to access elements in array (in presto array indexes start from 1):
SELECT
metadata_stopinfo[1] r
FROM "table"
And then access the fields:
The fields may be of any SQL type, and are accessed with field reference operator .
SELECT
metadata_stopinfo[1].city city
FROM "table"
Also you can flatten the array with unnest:
SELECT r.city
FROM "table",
unnest(metadata_stopinfo) as t(r)

How to resolve this sql error of schema_of_json

I need to find out the schema of a given JSON file, I see sql has schema_of_json function
and something like this works flawlessly
> SELECT schema_of_json('[{"col":0}]');
ARRAY<STRUCT<`col`: BIGINT>>
But if I query for my table name, it gives me the following error
>SELECT schema_of_json(Transaction) as json_data from table_name;
Error in SQL statement: AnalysisException: cannot resolve 'schemaofjson(`Transaction`)' due to data type mismatch: The input json should be a string literal and not null; however, got `Transaction`.; line 1 pos 7;
The Transaction is one of the columns in my table and after checking it manually I can attest that it is of String type(json).
The SQL statement has it to give me the schema of the JSON, how to do it?
after looking further into the documentation that it is clear that the word foldable means that of the static one, and a column from a table JSON won't work
for minimal reroducible example here you go:
SELECT schema_of_json(CAST('{ "a": "b" }' AS STRING))
As soon as the cast is introduced in the above statement, the schema_of_json will fail......... It needs a static JSON as it's input

Regex comparison in Oracle between 2 varchar columns (from different tables)

I am trying to find a way to capture relevant errors from oracle alertlog. I have one table (ORA_BLACKLIST) with column values as below (these are the values which I want to ignore from
V$DIAG_ALERT_EXT)
Below are sample data in ORA_BLACKLIST table. This table can grow based on additional error to ignore from alertlog.
ORA-07445%[kkqctdrvJPPD
ORA-07445%[kxsPurgeCursor
ORA-01013%
ORA-27037%
ORA-01110
ORA-2154
V$DIAG_ALERT_EXT contains a MESSAGE_TEXT column which contains sample text like below.
ORA-01013: user requested cancel of current operation
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [kxtogboh()+22] [SIGSEGV] [ADDR:0x87] [PC:0x12292A56]
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [java_util_HashMap__get()] [SIGSEGV]
ORA-00600: internal error code arguments: [qercoRopRowsets:anumrows]
I want to write a query something like below to ignore the black listed errors and only capture relevant info like below.
select
dae.instance_id,
dae.container_name,
err_count,
dae.message_level
from
ORA_BLACKLIST ob,
V$DIAG_ALERT_EXT dae
where
group by .....;
Can someone suggest a way or sample code to achieve it?
I should have provided the exact contents of blacklist table. It currently contains some regex (perl) and I want to convert it to oracle like regex and compare with v$diag_alert_ext message_text column. Below are sample perl regex in my blacklist table.
ORA-0(,|$| )
ORA-48913
ORA-00060
ORA-609(,|$| )
ORA-65011
ORA-65020 ORA-31(,|$| )
ORA-7452 ORA-959(,|$| )
ORA-3136(,|)|$| )
ORA-07445.[kkqctdrvJPPD
ORA-07445.[kxsPurgeCursor –
Your blacklist table looks like like patterns, not regular expressions.
You can write a query like this:
select dae.* -- or whatever columns you want
from V$DIAG_ALERT_EXT dae
where not exists (select 1
from ORA_BLACKLIST ob
where dae.message_text like ob.<column name>
);
This will not have particularly good performance if the tables are large.

SQL - Error converting data type varchar to numeric

I have data in a table that has decimals and stored as a varchar type data. I need to place that data into another table with column that is data type of decimal(18,5)
I get error:
Error converting data type varchar to numeric
The problem is with this Share column
Query I have is
SELECT IFS.Bin,CFL.CUSIP,IFS.[FROM],
--IFS.Shares
--SUM(isnull(cast(IFS.Shares as money),0))
--CAST(isnull(IFS.Shares,0) AS VARCHAR(30))
Shares =
Convert(
DECIMAL(18,5),
CASE
WHEN IFS.Shares LIKE '%[^0-9]%' THEN IFS.Shares --NULL
ELSE IFS.Shares
END)
FROM
mfclearing.ICE.ImportFileStaging IFS INNER JOIN
mfclearing.Production.ClearingFundList CFL ON
IFS.[From] = CFL.NasdaqSymbol
So if I try to only use IFS.Shares that doesn't work, I was trying some other SUM and CAST , but the last thing is that I'm trying to do is that Shares = Convert .....
Should not be too relevant to this, but I do want to do an insert into and so I do have an insert statement right above that Select statement
INSERT INTO [InterclassExchangeBatchDetails](Bin,FromCusip,FromSymbol,Shares)
The data that I'm working with for reference that is causing the problem, here is a sample of it

MS Access query produces invalid procedure call

My query in access works fine if i only use the below query with a select statement. As soon as it becomes an append query it produces an "invalid procedure call" error.
I have narrowed down the offending columns as being "Publ" and "PublLong". Both are long text strings. If I remove these two columns the query updates without an error.
Here is a sample data point found in the [Bezeichung] Field:
publications.bank.com/publ-dl-ch/pdf/WhatsUp_20181113_en.pdf
I checked the table that it is being inserted to and the data types are the same nor did i see any other setting that would block the insertion.
How can i get it to work?
INSERT INTO tbl_MatomoRaw ( DownloadDate, IntExt, Publ, PublLong,
PublDate, [Language], Download_Visits, PublMonth )
SELECT
Date() AS DownloadDate,
Left([Bezeichnung],InStr([Bezeichnung],".")-1) AS IntExt,
Nz(Mid([Bezeichnung],InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")+1,InStr([Bezeichnung],"_")-
InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")-1),"") AS Publ,
Mid([Bezeichnung],InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")+1,InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"_")-
InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")-1) AS PublLong,
Mid([Bezeichnung],InStr([Bezeichnung],"_")+1,8) AS PublDate,
Mid([Bezeichnung],Len([Bezeichnung])-5,2) AS [Language],
xlsx_Output.[Eindeutige Downloads] AS Download_Visits,
Mid([Bezeichnung],InStr([Bezeichnung],"_")+1,6) AS PublMonth
FROM xlsx_Output
WHERE
(((Nz(Mid([Bezeichnung],InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")+1,InStr([Bezeichnung],"_")-
InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")-1),"")) Not Like "#Func!"));
#Func! indicates one of your functions is causing an error.
Your query uses multiple functions that run into trouble when your input doesn't meet that format, pre-filter instead of filtering on an error, since you can't filter on an error when appending:
INSERT INTO tbl_MatomoRaw ( DownloadDate, IntExt, Publ, PublLong,
PublDate, [Language], Download_Visits, PublMonth )
SELECT
Date() AS DownloadDate,
Left([Bezeichnung],InStr([Bezeichnung],".")-1) AS IntExt,
Nz(Mid([Bezeichnung],InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")+1,InStr([Bezeichnung],"_")-
InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")-1),"") AS Publ,
Mid([Bezeichnung],InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")+1,InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"_")-
InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")-1) AS PublLong,
Mid([Bezeichnung],InStr([Bezeichnung],"_")+1,8) AS PublDate,
Mid([Bezeichnung],Len([Bezeichnung])-5,2) AS [Language],
[Eindeutige Downloads] AS Download_Visits,
Mid([Bezeichnung],InStr([Bezeichnung],"_")+1,6) AS PublMonth
FROM (SELECT * FROM xlsx_Output WHERE Len(Bezeichnung) > 5 AND Bezeichnung LIKE "*?.?*" AND Bezeichnung LIKE "*_????????*" AND Bezeichnung LIKE "*?\?*")
WHERE
(((Nz(Mid([Bezeichnung],InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")+1,InStr([Bezeichnung],"_")-
InStrRev([Bezeichnung],"/")-1),"")) Not Like "#Func!"));
Since I don't know exactly where the errors occur, I can't write up a proper filter to identify them, but judging by your query they should include a slash and a symbol after that slash, an underscore and at least 8 symbols after that underscore, and a dot with at least one symbol before and after the dot.
