I am working on an SSAS project which is deployed at several customers and which works well for the majority. the problem is that there are clients for whom access to the cube from Excel is blocked by having this error message:
Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when loading the 'Compta' cube, from the file, '\?\E:\SQL\MSAS13.CEGIBI\OLAP\Data\Bi_AnalysisServices.33.db\Compta test.1189.cub.xml'.
the problem disappears when you connect to the Analysis server from SQL Management Studio.
I Tried to stop Analysis Servies ,delete the instance and redeploy it and it didn't work.
Does anyone has a solution for this problem ?
Thank you for your help.
We have faced issues mentioning the xml files in the SSAS folder. In some cases, the issue has gone away after the folder is excluded from anti-virus scans. The theory was that the anti-virus application is scanning the files agressively and this may have interfered with the SSAS process. So, in our deployments the recommendation is to exclude the SSAS data folders from the anti-virus application.
There are MS recommendations about SQL Server exclusions:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-choose-antivirus-software-to-run-on-computers-that-are-running-sql-server-feda079b-3e24-186b-945a-3051f6f3a95b
The directory that holds Analysis Services data
The directory that holds Analysis Services temporary files that are used during Analysis Services processing
Refering the official MS docs general helps in getting the Server folks to agree to exclude the OLAP DATA folders from the anti-virus application.
I found the origin of the problem.
its a program that restarts SSAS Services to refresh memory :
net stop MSSQLServerOLAPService
net start MSSQLServerOLAPService
that script doesn't work correctly and u need to open SSMS to have acces to the cube via EXCEL.

I ran into deployment issues, so I created a test app to prove out the deployment process. I've kept everything as "out of the box" as possible:
I've created a simple (one table and one screen) VS2013 LightSwitch HTML client app, but the deployment fails, because it will not deploy the database schema.
I've created the Azure website and linked it to my Azure SQL Database, also the "Deploy database schema" checkbox is checked in the wizard.
It seems that my only option at the moment is to manually create the DB objects, which seems kind of absurd.
I have found a workaround to this issue.
It seems that the problem stems from not having the deployment credentials. What I have found is that if I attempt to deploy the server project there is a drop down list box that's supposed to be populated with available destinations. At the first attempt the list comes up blank but if I proceed to publish a message flashes up confirming a new set of credentials has been downloaded. After that I found I am able to publish the main project itself database objects as well.
In short; make sure you are properly logged in even if you have to log out and then in again, and also have deployment credentials up to date.
I have got a ssis package which runs when I manually run from Integration Services. But when I try to run it from a job. Then it runs but no data is seen in the data. There seems to be some permission issue. Can somebody tell me what permissions are required for running a package from a SQL Server Job?
State the error message.
If you are using a flat file connection manager, and that's where the error is occurring, click 'start' then 'computer' then check to make sure you are mapped to that drive. If not, click the tab upper right corner to map to the drive then when you access the file through SSIS you shouldn't have an error.
If the package runs successfully as a job using the SQL Server Agent then you have the permissions set right for the database side.
However make sure if you are accessing any external data such as flat files that the agent is able to access these locations. You may have permissions on your Windows account to access the locations when you run the package in Visual Studio but the agent service running the job requires those permissions too.
If this is not the case can you clarify what your package does and any messages you receive from the catalog reports so I can help further.
I've made VB.NET application in VS2010 that uses a 2007 Access database, called MenuDB.mdb. During development, everything was fine.
Now that I'm publishing it, I'm getting weird errors because for some reason the app isn't connecting to the database.
I install the application and run it but as soon as it opens it gives this error:
System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException (0x80004005): Could not find file
'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\Data\OV86PXJA.K3R\8575R5AY.95Z\menu..tion_0d4fa454d69e8e6b_0001.0000_8340d263807cbb71\Data\MenuDB.accdb'.
I know the problem has to do with the way I'm relating the application to the database, but I don't know which way is right. In Solution Explorer I changed the Build Type of MenuDB.accdb to "Content" (earlier it was embedded resource". But it doesn't work either way. In my App.config I have the following connection string:
connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|\MenuDB.accdb"
I want that when I deploy the application, the database should just sit in the application folder, wherever it gets installed. How can I do that?
Edit
I don't mind deploying it in such a way that I need to paste the database somewhere myself on the target machine - as long as it works.
If you have multiple users using the same or similar database, and dont have access to a SQL server (MySQL, MSSQL, or others), then co-locate the database at a central location (preferably network location) that all the users will have access to and change the connection string to accomidate the database location being on the network.
Just let it be known, Access can handle up to 10users when doing simple data retrieval/submission but if you ever have it open while others are accessing via data objects, then you may lock them out.
I'm getting this message (on the log) when trying to start a SSAS Tabular Instance on SQL Server 2012. I already have a Multidimensional instance running so this would be a second one. I also tried with the default instance stopped but got the same error.
Message: The service cannot be started: The following system error
occurred: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the
requested service.
I know the message seems obvious but its a DEV server with a lot of free resources (file size, CPU, RAM..)
Did anyone have this error before?
I know this might seem obvious, but just to verify, did you install at least one instance in the tabular mode? The interface (icons) do not always accurately reflect the mode - in particular the SQL Server Configuration Manager shows the icon for the UDM (OLAP) for any type of SSAS instance.
If you are certain that you did install a SSAS instance of type tabular, then are you able to verify (see) that instance in the SSCM? If so, what is the service state, i.e. is it started?
If not, can you manually start the service there? Does the service account have adequate permissions to run the service?
Give me a bit more information if none of these solutions work.
This is my first try of Visual Basic 2010 Express, though I have 10 yrs+ experience in VBA.
I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a desktop pc with following installed:
Visual Basic 2010 Express... just installed!
SQL Server 205 Express ... been running on pc for 12 months
I've created a new DB in SQL for my test application, but have not added any users or permissions to it as I'm using Windows authentication.
I've created a new Windows Forms Solution in VB2010EXP and tried adding a new Data Source for my new SQL DB, but it keeps giving error message about not having rights ot the db.
2 days of searching on the web has confirmed many others with similar issues, but no obvious solution. Eventually I find a few threads about permissions and moving the mdf into the root of the HDD, so try moving my mdf file up closer to the root of the Hard Drive
msf was in C:\Documents and Settings\_SharedData\Application_Data\MSSQL2005\Data\
now in C:\SQL2005\Data\
Now I can finally add a data source to my Db and start to use VS.
Problem is now occasionally when I am workng in VB and then go to the SQL Management Studio and try and view/change my DB, it gives an error and I cant access my DB. I then have to detach and re attach to my DB before I can work on it.
So my questions are:
Surely the location of my MDF file
should not be critical???
Do I need to add a user and
permission to my DB or should VB be
able to deal with this automatically
as I'm using windows authentication
Are then any known issues with
VB/VS causing errors in SQL
Managment Studio?
Thanks in advance

SQL Server runs on a different Windows Account to the one you use. You can check this by going to services (Run > Services.msc) and under SQL Server, go to properties and the Log On tab. I think by default 2005 uses the 'Network Service' system account. Now the reason you can't attach an MDF sat inside your documents folder is that account doesn't have access to your documents. You could give it permission, but you're much better off having the databases closer to the root as you have done.
Your connection to the database is driven by the connection strings you use. My personal preference is to create SQL Login accounts for my applications, and give them the least possible permissions they require. You could do the same using a Windows Account if you prefer.
I'm sure there are a couple. What is the error you are getting that prevents you accessing the Db? If we can see this error we may be able to help better.
Hope that helps.
