I have a MediaWiki (1.32.0) running locally via WAMP on my Windows PC. I want to make the Wiki privately available online to people with a username/password that then allows people to see the Wiki.
So basically I have two big problems:
I've never hosted a wiki before, but I have hosted other, less complicated sites (such as my old personal website on HostGator) - but these sites never required a "back end" to serve content
I've never created a password blocked website. I'm thinking we'll just have one username/password combo, because we'll only allow 5-20 editors max on the Wiki; there will never be more than 1000 visitors simultaneously (and that's very, very generously high)
Any advice on either of these issues would be much, much appreciated.
Miraheze free wiki hosting will take care of this easily.

So my school has blocked all websites (for now at least) and I'm wondering if there was a way to access them without entering into them. What I've thought is that this could be done with google as google search can show you certain parts of pages.
Also, the current configuration of the firewall allows you to do google search and access certain websites. I also know that they perform this using a man in the middle attack intercepting SSL connections. Is there any VPN, tool or script that can bypass this? Something to do with packets obfuscation using XOR gates? I've tried using many different VPNs but all seem to not work.
Thanks in advance.

My question is is there any performance difference between:
1) 10 Parked domains and htaccess and php handling to what to load on same account
2) 10 separeate accounts
Users get same on front end, and i am currently using one account and all parked domain but i wonder if that slowing down my performance?
There is no performance difference that I know of.
With separate accounts, cpanel basically creates different vhost entries to map domain name to their respective websites.
.htaccess mapping is pretty much the same thing with vhosts.
There is however an exception:
If the hosting company you are in uses CloudLinux OS, or anything to isolate each tenant to his environment, then you are only allowed a portion of server's CPU per account. That means the more sites you have in one account, the slower it gets (provided the sites are all actively handling requests and responses).
By the way, I think web hosting questions like this are perfectly valid here. Programmers have different needs too :)

Hi there Ladies and Gents
I am asking this question because this weekend ahas seen me go from a fully haired man to a bold man in let them 24 hours. Google found malware on three site we are running on a shared server. All the files are HTML or Java. I have done some research and this Malware software put a load of numbers and letters at the bottom of the HTML pages. So, I have cleaned the files off the server, and replaced them with clean files from our own hard drives. But within a few minutes the files are infected again. Then looking at the file, there are no bits of code. So when I go back to firefox and look again, after clearing the cache the same thing happens again, the red screen! I am just wondering if, there could be a infection on the shared server and it could be infecting more than just our three website?
Sorry it's long winded - No sleep for 48 hours sorting this out and rebuilding the sites on another server we trust.
Kind regards to all who read this message.
John
Yes. it is possible for malware to infect a whole server.

I noted that Google use web page content when they index pages for SEO purposes. Therefore, what I did was I created the web pages and I used lot of keyword on the web pages. Then I applied the background color to the above keywords to show users.
Question is do they block this kind of pages?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is something you really need an expert for these days. The days of having some keywords and meta-data only have long gone, so you need to keep up to date with current SEO tricks to get your site up the Google ranking. You can also check the Alexa rankings for your website.
Take a look at the SEO guidelines from Google here
Take a look at some pointers here and here, but you really need to invest some time and research into the best practices.
You should also make your site as accessible as possible, this will make the site easier to spider, there are some tools here to look at and there's a site here you can use.

I was wondering how I could set up a computer (windwos xp) or browser to allow access to only 2 or 3 websites? I know where I currently work they have 'email stations' which are computers will access only to the company homepage and email login. Please let me know any ideas you all have.
Thanks!
This is accomplished by using a proxy. There are several free, open source proxies (such as squid and varnish), but it may be easier to look at some of the for-pay solutions for parental controls. I looked at net nanny before for some customers, and they were happy with it.
McAfee has some parental control software built in to its standard PC protection package.
It allows you pretty easy control over home much time can be spent online and what kind of sites can be accessed.
You can download a free trial on the website. Its worth a try.
