I have a user control with a bunch of buttons behind a scroll viewer that has a grid with a bunch of rows in it. The first row is empty. The buttons in user control need to respond to tap/click when not obscured by scroll viewer's content. My problem is that the scroll viewer caches the tap event and it is not passed to the user control because it is a sibling to the scroll viewer. I would like to somehow pass/propagate the tap event to the user control to get the buttons working. I can't find a good solution to this issue because there seems to be no RaiseEvent(e) method on UI elements in uwp. Due to specific requirements, the whole page needs to react to scroll and the buttons are required to be behind the scroll viewer content. Does anyone know if it is possible to pass the whole event to another element or somehow allow for both controls to handle it? Thanks in advance.

I would like to have a small menu that closes if the user interacts with any other component. For example if the user tries to scroll or interact with any of the content in a scrollview behind the menu (see the image below for reference).
I have two ideas for how this might be achieved:
A transparent layer behind the menu with an absolute position and dimensions matching the device. If this layer registers a touch event the menu can be dismissed. The problem with this is that from the users perspective the touch event was totally ignored. So for this to work well I would need to be able to still pass the touch event through the absolute layer to the content behind it.
Add callbacks to every component that could be interacted with to notify the menu that it should close. This option seems like it would be very messy and because of the large number of components in my use case it is not practical to implement and maintain.
Is there an other proper way to solve this problem? Can any of the issues I raised with the ideas above be resolved or mitigated?
Wrap your view with a TouchableWithoutFeedback component and provide it a onPress callback that hides the menu if it's open. Depending on how top-level the 'expand' icon is, you may want to track the menu's visibility in redux and dispatch an action onPress to track globally.
I want to create an application and chatting is involved. I am currently struggling to format existing controls or to create a control with the following conditions:
a container is docked to the main form's bottom
inside of that container, a button can be used to toggle a chat
component (e.g. text edit) to become either visible or invisible
if visible, the chat component is aligned with the button that was
pressed but does not force a resize on the container of the button
So basically I want to achieve a facebook or google hangouts like chat layout in vb.net that can also scale dynamically according to the current window size. Nevertheless it should always stick to the bottom.
Please keep in mind that this question is not about making the chat work but only the layout/design problem I am facing.
My current approach is the following:
FlowLayoutPanel docked to bottom with buttons
RichEdit as placeholders to simulate the chat component
My current layout
Is there an easier way to do what I want to do?
Set the anchors to the bottom of the page/panel.
On the designer, click the control you want to edit, find the Anchor property and change it to bottom (and left/right/top, whatever you'd like).
I am trying to create an animation to a control.
So think of the animation and control of a now playing page on most touch screen devices. You see the control (album photo) and swipe either way and get it to slide off the screen and then the next control (album photo) slides on in its place.
I am not asking for you to code me this, but I am having trouble wrapping my head around a way that this could be done.
The control content is always changing, when you swipe one way, an image is removed from the view and then the next is added.
What you need is FlipView control which can get you the interface you described.

To share a common display layout in a Split template Windows Store app, I put a Back button, title TextBlock, and another button in a UserControl, and then use that control in most of my pages. My problem is that in the main page, neither of the buttons will react to pointer activity, be it pointer over or clicking. However, it works fine in any other page. To isolate it, I created a blank app and duplicated the UserControl, but it works in that case.
How can I debug this?
Thanks.

In an "ItemView" page of a "Split" template app, the Grid containing the back button and title must be below the GridView and ListView in the XAML code. Apparently the GridView, with no Grid.Row, and a Grid.RowSpan="2" needs to overlay the first and second rows, and if the button is beneath the GridView, it must assume it is not visible and doesn't need to respond to events. I moved my new user control instance to below the GridView, and the buttons work now.
This whole scheme of overlaying both rows makes no sense to me, but without the Grid.RowSpan="2", the items don't split nicely into two rows for me. I think such odd layout should have a comment explaining it in the template. Perhaps it could save someone else from this same kind of issue.
How do we detect a scrolling event in GridView (like ViewChanged on ScrollViewer) on somethig like the default GridView template sample app? I'd like to replicate the effect that the netflix App does on the left red strip.
I tried putting the GridView inside a scrollviewer, but I've been unsuccessful at stretching it to fill the screen for different resolutions.
Update: I intend to use this with VariableGrid control that's on NuGet - though it's not an official control, it inherits GridView
The best way to do this seems that you can read through the components of the control, and assign events to it. based on what's happening in this example
http://mikaelkoskinen.net/post/WinRT-XAML-Automatically-Scrolling-ListView-to-Bottom-and-Detecting-When-ListView-is-Scrolled.aspx
I grabbed access to the scrollbar, suing the VisualTreeExtensions and I could capture the event Scroll, just like in the example. I had to read the children when the Loaded event of the grid was fired.
There is a simpler way.
Edit a template of the GridView, and look inside the XAML to find a ScrollViewer which is a component of the GridView.
The ScrollViewer has a ViewChanged event that you can subscribe to. Now whenever the GridView is scrolled, this event will be fired.
Try ManipulationCompleted and PointerReleased events on GridView. This is just using keyboard mouse..
