SQL: Select, dynamically created values as column - sql

I have to select data from a column then show as these values as another columns. But the struggle is, inside my column always new data will come and new cells will be created.
Product_Table:

When there is a new date in selling table I want my SQL create another SELLING_DATE dynamically. As you notice when there is no SELLING_DATE data filled with null or we can replace basic text like 'not sold'

You can use window functions and conditional aggregation:
select
name,
max(case when rn = 1 then date end) selling_date_1,
max(case when rn = 2 then date end) selling_date_2,

You can expand the query with more columns (that is, more conditional max()s) to handle more dates.

I really don't think it's practical to solve your problem that way.
A couple of things you could try instead:
Just select each product once per sale, i.e. join them, which in practice is almost the same as replacing the ID's in your selling_table with the names of the products. That should give you something like:
PRODUCT SELLING DATE
apple 2020-06-12
apple 2020-05-12
apple 2020-07-23
orange 2020-01-01
You can try selecting all dates for each product together and display them as a string (may require some research and work though if you're new to SQL). This answer do a somewhat similar question may perhas help you.
Perhaps you are calling this from some higher level program? If you are using C# for instance, you could probably manipulate whatever result you get pretty easily using e.g. LINQ. That all depends on what the bigger picture looks like though, and how you want to present your final result.
To that end, it would be useful if you could update your question with more info about your overall architecture.

This is Joining a few tables (obviously) in order to get a number of records. The problem is that if someone is duplicated on the table with a NULL in one of the date fields, and a date in another field, it pulls both the NULL and the DATE, or pulls multiple NULLS it might pull multiple dates but those are not present right at the moment.
I need the Nulls, they are actual data in this particular case, but if someone has a date and a NULL I need to pull only the newest record, I thought I could add MAX(RecordID) from the table, but that didn't change the results of the query either.
That code:

These are being used in a report, that is to determine the total number of employees who fit the criteria of the report. The NULLs in DecShotDate are needed as they show people who did not refuse to get a flu vaccine in the current year, while the dates are people who did refuse.
Now I have come up with one simple solution, I could add a column to the CompletedTrainings Table that contains a date or other value, and add that to the HAVING statement. This might be the right solution as this is a yearly training questionnaire that employees have to fill out. But I am asking for advice before doing this.
Am I right in thinking I need to add a column to filter by so that older data isn't being pulled, or should I be able to do this by pulling recordID, and did I just bork that part of the query up?

After some serious soul searching, I decided to use another column and filter by that.

This may not have been the best solution, but it did exactly what I needed. Which is to get the information by latest entry into the database.
Previously I had tried to use MAX(), DISTINCT(), etc. but always had a problem of multiple records being retrieved. In this case, I intentionally SELECT the most recent records first, then join them to the results of the next query, and so on. Until I have all the required data for my report.
I write this in hopes someone else finds it useful. Or even better if someone tells me why this is wrong, so as to improve my own skills.

Total Sum SQL Server

I have a query that collects many different columns, and I want to include a column that sums the price of every component in an order. Right now, I already have a column that simply shows the price of every component of an order, but I am not sure how to create this new column.
I would think that the code would go something like this, but I am not really clear on what an aggregate function is or why I get an error regarding the aggregate function when I try to run this code.
SELECT ID, Location, Price, (SUM(PriceDescription) FROM table GROUP BY ID WHERE PriceDescription LIKE 'Cost.%' AS Summary)

When I say each component, I mean that every ID I have has many different items that make up the general price. I only want to find out how much money I spend on my supplies that I need for my pressure washers which is why I said `Where PriceDescription LIKE 'Cost.%'
To further explain, I have receipts of every customer I've worked with and in these receipts I write down my cost for the soap that I use and the tools for the pressure washer that I rent. I label all of these with 'Cost.' so it looks like (Cost.Water), (Cost.Soap), (Cost.Gas), (Cost.Tools) and I would like it so for Order 1 it there's a column that sums all the Cost._ prices for the order and for Order 2 it sums all the Cost._ prices for that order. I should also mention that each Order does not have the same number of Costs (sometimes when I use my power washer I might not have to buy gas and occasionally soap).
I hope this makes sense, if not please let me know how I can explain further.

But if the 'Summary' was printed on every line instead of just at the top one, that would be okay too.
You just require sum(Price) over(Partition by Location) will give total sum as below:

First, if your Price column really contains values that match 'Cost.%', then you can not apply SUM() over it. SUM() expects a number (e.g. INT, FLOAT, REAL or DECIMAL). If it is text then you need to explicitly convert it to a number by adding a CAST or CONVERT clause inside the SUM() call.
Second, your query syntax is wrong: you need GROUP BY, and the SELECT fields are not specified correctly. And you want to SUM() the Price field, not the PriceDescription field (which you can't even sum as I explained)
Assuming that Price is numeric (see my first remark), then this is how it can be done:

I assume you want the Count of the row

Try this:
select Acc_Id, MAX(Row_No)
from table
group by Acc_Id
As a beginner then this is your first exposure to aggregation and grouping. You may want to look at the documentation on group by now that this problem has motivated your interest in a solutions. Grouping operates by looking at rows with common column values, that you specify, and collapsing them into a single row which represents the group. In your case values in Acc_Id are the names for your groups.
The other answers are both correct in the the final two columns are going to be equivalent with your data.
select Acc_Id, count(*), max(Row_No)
from T
group by Acc_Id;
If you have gaps in the numbering then they won't be the same. You'll have to decide whether you're actually looking for a count of rows of a maximum of a value within a column. At this point you can also consider a number of other aggregate functions that will be useful to you in the future. (Note that the actual values here are pretty much meaningless in this context.)

Select distinct values for a particular column choosing arbitrarily from duplicates

I have health data relating to deaths. Individual should die once maximum. In the database they sometimes don't; probably because causes of death were changed but the original entry was not deleted. I don't really understand how this was allowed to happen, but it has. So, as a made up example, I have:

I want each individual to have only one cause of death.
In the example, I want a query that returns row 1 and either row 2 or row 3 (not both). I have to make an arbitrary choice between rows 2 and 3 because there is no timestamp in any of the fields that can be used to determine which is the revision; it's not ideal but is unavoidable.
I can't make the SQL work to do this. I've tried inner joining distinct Individual_ID to the other fields, but this still gives all the rows. I've tried adding a 'having count(Individual_ID) = 1' clause with it. This leaves out people with more than one cause of death completely. Suggestions on the internet seem to be based on using a timestamped field to choose the most recent, but I don't have that.
IBM DB2. Windows XP. Any thoughts gratefully received.
Have you tried using MIN (or MAX) against the cause of death. (and the date of death, if they died on two different dates)

I don't know DB2 so I'll answer in general. There are two main approaches:
select *
from T
join (
select keys, min(ID) as MinID
from T
group by keys
) on T.ID = MinID
And
select *, row_number() over (partition by keys) as r
from T
where r = 1
Both return all rows, no matter if duplicate or not. But they returns only one duplicate per "key".
Notice, that both statements are pseudo-SQL.
The row_number() approach is probably preferable from a performance standpoint. Here is usr's example, in DB2 syntax:
select * from (
select T.*, row_number() over (partition by Individual_ID) as r
from T
)
where r=1;

I have an execl datasheet with data looking like this

And need it to look like this

This from a SQL Table so I could do it in SQL if that makes it easier

Simply make a UNION in the SQL

ORDER BY id
If you don´t have the option of using SQL and need to use Excel. You can use the TRANSPOSE function. It is an array type function so you need to use the {}. If you haven´t used it before I recommend reading the help first. I however don´t think you can use transpose to get it exactly as you describe it. The id and desc column have to handled separately.
