Linux Subsystem can't install and recognize packages - windows-subsystem-for-linux

I am using windows and didn't wanted to switch to linux. I still wanted to learn it so I downloaded ubuntu subsystem for windows. It works fine and I can also execute linux commands on it. But the problem is I can't check my pip version using "pip --version" command also I can't access nodejs . It says that node isn't recognized. But it is working fine on my cmd windows terminal. How can I make it work ? Do I really have to download all these packages again after running "sudo apt update" command.

Yes, you have to download all these packages again for Ubuntu-WSL. That is because WSL is not compatible with windows executable, just like Ubuntu is supposed to be.

Ruby On Rails on Win 10

On win 10, After installing RoR 3.x and Ruby 7.x, and sqlite 3.x, the server will not start from CLI, I am not using Windows Powershell but the CMD window.
Does any part of the install of those packages require Admin window?
Does the "bin/rails server" command require Admin privileges from CLI.
Thank You
Not really.
I installed Rails in my Windows Computer, but I needed to install Node and Yarn as well.
I suggest you install WSL for Windows. It's like have Linux install but using Windows. It's faster than Windows and you will have less problems by installing Rails or any other software.
Check this link: https://learn.microsoft.com/es-es/windows/wsl/install
You need to use PowerShell as Administrator and run the command wsl --install (see pc requirements)

problems with Arch linux installation commands

It's my first time trying to install and using Arch linux, I was trying to install it in VirtualBox in Mac Os mojave, when i did arch-chroot /mnt(after all the configuration), then tried to nano /etc/locale.conf it just printed command not found.
I've already tried with vim or other commands like sudo or apt to install a plain text editor but it's always the same and I also tried twice but nothing changes.
PLEEAAASE, I need help.
In Archlinux you should use pacman -S to install packages
try this :
"pacman -S nano"
you can see more information here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/pacman#Installing_packages
You can install it with the Linux kernel etc.
For installing the kernel you use
pacstrap
so just add nano, vim or whatever text-editor you like to use.

How to download it without pip2

I tried to download the cuckoo on windows, While I got the error 'pip2 install -U cuckoo'.
The default version of pip on my windows system is for python3.
I tried to download python27, and went to the folder, try to pip install. I still failed
It is a little trick.
First, you do need to download the python27 and go to the python27 directory.
Then, you need to download pip2 (https://bootstrap.pypa.io/2.6/get-pip.py), use this command: curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/2.6/get-pip.py -o get-pip.py
Then python.exe get-pip.py
Now, it still does not work if you just type pip2 install ..
You should use python.exe -m pip install -U cuckoo. (download package under the version of this directory).
After you download the WSL for ubuntu 16.04. You will meet an error the next time you reboot your PC. It is like registerDistribution error. You just need to uninstall all anti-virus software. For me, it is the McAfee. After you uninstall it, reboot your pc. You will find it works normally.

Redis desktop dependency on libicu52 for ubuntu12.04

I want to use a redis browser and I found redis-desktop-manager.
I downloaded a deb file but it requested libicu52.
Frist. How can I install this one in Ubuntu12.04.
Second. I found later that it seems to support Ubuntu version 14+.
Would I run this on 12.04 version?
For the dependency of libicu52 Redis Desktop fail to install. You can follow bellow step:
Step 1: To download the libicu52 file. Run the command in the terminal:
wget http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/i/icu/libicu52_52.1-8ubuntu0.2_amd64.deb
Step 2: Install libicu52 by executing this command:
dpkg -i libicu52_52.1-8ubuntu0.2_amd64.deb
Now, Attempt once again to install redis-desktop-manager client from debian file, I believe now everything is fine ;)
FYI, redis-desktop-manager installs and runs perfectly on my 15.10 systems.
You can probably compile redis-desktop-manager from source on your system, using the libicu* version that comes with 12.04. I would also consider upgrading: 12.04 is no longer supported, has been replaced as an LTS by 14.04 and it generally far behind.
FWIW redis-desktop-manager installs and runs fine on my 15.04 and 15.10 systems.
