I am trying to trace down a runtime error that is happening to a few team members while attempting to open a PDF file link from Access. The VBA code is using an Application.followhyperlink to pass a hyperlink to our SSRS report server. The VBA code correctly passes the URL (it works on my machine) which opens a dialogue box (Microsoft Office) asking the user if they, "Would like to open this file?". What is supposed to happen is that a web browser opens with the link (and then the PDF file opens from it), but instead the code breaks with the error message of: Run Time Error '15' - Can not open the specified file.
It feels like the issue is with the web browser security (or windows) security.
We are running Microsoft Edge as the default browser. I have tried to play with the security settings with no luck.
Anyone else experience this or have a solution?

Our IT department updated the user's browser (edge) and it resolved the issue. I also tested the code in the links provide and it also worked. Thank you!

When I first launched Bixby Developer Studio, it greeted me with a startup screen with a Login button. I clicked on it and it opened a login page in my browser. I logged in that page using my Samsung developer account. The login was successful and a pop-up appeared asking me if I will allow the page to launch Developer Studio (which was already open at that point). I allowed it, but nothing happened; Developer Studio was still showing the startup screen.
I restarted the application but it again showed me that startup screen with the login button. If I click on the login button, it will just take me again to the login page in the browser. And then nothing would happen if I login again.
I'd suggest verifying if your browser is configured to accept cookies. If that information is verified and the problem still exists, there might be additional information in the ide.log file that can provide more insight
To get that information, follow these steps:
Note the time when you begin the next steps.
Go through the login process until you hit the point of failure.
From the IDE menu, click on Help -> Create Diagnostics Report. This
will popup a dialog that will point you to the location of the
diagnostics report, by default this location is
C:\Users\'User'\bixby-workspace\
Unzip the diagnostics report and look at the ide.log file for any
errors at the time of login.
Feel free to post the errors here or if you prefer, you can open a ticket with Bixby Support too.
There are a couple of points you could work on here -
In this case, I suggest you to keep the browser open in the background while clicking on the login button. I was facing the same issue and somehow it worked for me like this. This has been an issue on a Windows machine. On a Mac this problem is not faced till now.
You could restart the Bixby studio itself for logging in again.
Also, I suggest removing the browser cookies as told by shahnawaz above.

For some reason, it just started working right after I received dozens of Windows updates (it's been a few days since I logged in to my Windows account as I have been using Linux; I rarely use my Windows account now and I wish Bixby Studio was available in Linux too). when i am trying to view files from my TFS document library it's download the file instead of opening it automatic with excel OR word that are already installed on my pc, does someone know how to fix it?
i am using office365 and TFS2015 as you can see at the screenshot that attached this is how it's look like in PC that working fine.
This kind of issue may related to your IE security setting, try to add the related sharepoint site in trust site and try again:
Close your browser (if you don't and you have your SharePoint site up you'll get a bunch of script errors because of the change to access
levels).
Go to your Control Panel
Open Internet Properties
Select the Security tab.
Select Trusted Sites
Click Sites, and add the URL for your SharePoint site.

If the warning dialog is disappear, but when you open file still download. Then that behavior maybe defined by your browser. Try some other browser such as IE/Chrome/FireFox. Double check the integration/link of your browser and Word,Excel.
I am trying to write an application that will download .csv and .xls files and save them into a folder that will be accessed later by a VBA macro. I am posting this question after the unsuccessful use of the solution in the following link: How do i download a file using VBA (Without internet explorer)
The macro runs successfully, but the downloaded .csv file only contains the html from the login page. I find that strange because when I copy and paste the link directly into the browser without logging in, I am immediately prompted with a save, open, close window for the file.
As much as possible I am trying to avoid using SendKeys, but I can't seem to find another solution that works. I am not opposed to options other than VBA. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Your browser stores cookies which likely allows you to login automatically. Try browsing the page in different tabs in an incognito browser and you'll likely have to login each time.
You'll have to find a way to make the same requests your browser is sending to login, and use the cookies stored to make the requests to download the files.
I need to authenticate to a website.
After successful authentication - a form is shown, where a few details are filled.
After submitting the form, the page gives an impression that something is loading:
After a non-fixed delay, a download pop up is shown:
Sadly, assuming if I try to download from URL, I cannot overcome the authentication part. The web browser client is authenticated, not the VBA client.
My simple question is:
How to detect, whether this download pop up has appeared or not in IE9+?
A few things I have tried:
URLDownloadToFile is of no use, since the download link for the file is not fixed and appears after authentication
Siddharth's answer, does not addresses IE 9 download dialogue box, rather works for IE 8 dialogue box
I believe that after successfully detecting this pop up, I can download the file to local disk simply using SendKeys - correct me if needed.
Side question: how to download the file to local disk after detection is successful?
I am trying to save an Excel 2010 file to a Sahrepoint 2010 document library but keep getting the error:
"You can't open this location using this program. Please try a different location"
Googling this suggests enabling "Desktop Experience" on the server which I have done. All Excel services are activated.
Has anyone come across this and been able to resolve successfully? I am wondering if this is more security related but the security set-up looks fine.
Any suggestions?

I think that there are potentially a couple of things that could solve this problem depending on your set-up.
You are right that a lot of internet advice is to enable desktop experience, but if you are not running on the server or if you have already done this then one of the suggestions below could help.
This is only for dev environments however.
If you are running on the server and trying to use your app as admin then configuring IE ESC to turn off enhanced security for Admins should help
If you are running off server and have the issue and do not want to turn off IE ESC (on the server) for users then you need to enable a mechanism to allow auto-logon, either through integrated security (i.e. you are part of the domain), accessing through an anon web-site port on your SharePoint app (set-up anon web access in SharePoint) or set up and store a WebDav link and use that as the open/save URL.
My (unconfirmed) theory is that there is some auto-login going on in the background that hinders a streamlined office integration. Most of the time, SharePoint will be set up with Kerberos (not NTLM) or be in anon mode so enabling desktop experience if running on the server will be the best first step to try.

The problem is that the full path to the file is too long.
I had this problem with a PowerPoint presentation. The full path to the file was over 275 characters. When I shortened the file name to bring the full path under 250 characters, I was able to open the file normally.
